  1. Wore a green shirt Went to an Irish Pub for Guinness lunch
  2. Perhaps it is BMW's answer to the VW Anorak ? Is it just me, or does the VW ute just look like a Holden Colorado with a VW badge ??
  3. Headlight solutions You could buy their kit, but I did my own, took headlight out of car, took lens off the front and polished by hand with finest and finer wet & dry, than finished with polycarb polish. Came up great, just use LOTS of water and get as fine a grade as you can. Best of luck.
  4. From a US forum : My Dad has a 3G iPhone with the latest OS, and the TCU works perfectly with the iPhone, so this appears to be an optimum Bluetooth solution for a much lower cost. Another advantage, both cost and cosmetic, is that the TCU does not require an eject box. The TCU goes into pairing mode for a couple minutes when you first start the car, so it does not need a pairing button. The only real downside to the TCU is that its voice recognition instructions only control the phone. There are no navigation control instructions like in the ULF So, if you are updating the Nav, I would say go for ULF to get Nav voice control. I have just done the Nav in my 2002 530i touring, with help from Hotwire, and are planning on doing the ULF next, when I have spare funds You do not have your location listed, I am in Timaru, so if I can help you at all with the install, I am happy to do that. I would also be interested if you get the ULF installed, would be keen to see it running.
  5. Happy Birthday Simon. Hope that 5D is behaving itself
  6. My thoughts go out to CHCH members. I know the shakes are scary enough here in Timaru, and we are NOTHING compared to the pictures on the TV and internet of CHCH Stay safe
  7. Just be aware that many of the cheap AV cables on Tardme and Ebay will not work with later iPods and earlier ones running late firmware You need to ask if they will work with your firmware, or pay Apple's exhorbinant price for genuine AV cable.
  8. A liitle OT, but then again maybe not..... This is cool BMW is the first car manufacturer to have announced support for a little-known feature in iOS 4 called iPod Out. CNET reported (http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7-20009928-48.html) last week on this new iOS 4 feature: This feature allows a connected iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, or iPod Touch (second or third generation) to output and display an iPod interface on a connected device's external screen. That device, in this case, would be a future BMW or Mini vehicle.
  9. HI, I asume it is this car ? Trademe Very Nice Have you contacted this person Conversion There was also another trader on Trademe called 'Song' or something, but I cannot find his listing at the moment - I think he MAY have been on this forum too? If you decide to go the E39 way, Grant is definatley the man He helped me update mine
  10. I recently sold a 1996 540i with 110ks for $8k It was fully speced with TV, iPod integration etc - I assume this 528i has the 'standard' Business stereo only ? Also that car is Ex Singapore, and I know this may be flamed on here, but my brother had an ex Singapore E39 and had LOTS of electrical gremlins. ( It was a 540i Motorsport and he ended up getting rid of it for $6K after $$$$ spent on repairs ) Other than that, seems tidy, but you may be able to find higher spec car for similar money.
  11. I am in Timaru and have Navcoder and interface in use in my 530T - are you planning on coming this way at all, or is there anything I can help you with remotely ?
  12. Running the CA18 the BMW 318 badge is still true
  13. I too have done the MKIV and my next job is to fit ULF based handsfree, do you find it works well ? What phone (s ) do you pair it with ? I want to be able to use it with iPhone 4 Does the speech recogition work ? ( the speech reg on the iphone is poor ) I assume your car is ex Jap ? Any major issues retrofitting the ULF etc ? Thanks
  14. Would a used one from Ray or Brent be an option in the interim ??
  15. I had that in my E39 , the heater tap was jammed on Hot, so AC had no effect - could that be what you are experiencing ? If you set heater to cold on a cold day ( with the car warmed up ) you should not get warmed air - if you do the heater tap / valve may be jammed open as Glen said.
  16. Older thread I know, but I came accross this today : 3. If a battery is dead, all it needs is a jump. FALSE! Most alternators are designed to maintain car batteries, not recharge deeply-discharged batteries. If your battery has been discharged to the point where it won’t start your vehicle without the assistance of a jump-start from another vehicle, you need to make sure your battery is fully rechargedwith a battery charger as soon as possible. Relying on your alternator to recharge a deeply-discharged battery can lead to a cycle of dead batteries and jump-starts, until either the battery (expensive) or alternator (really expensive) fails. 4. Starting your vehicle up periodically while in storage is good for the battery. FALSE! If you are storing your vehicle for an extended period of time, the best thing you can do for your battery is keep it properly-maintained with a quality battery tender or maintainer. If that isn’t possible, fully-charge your battery and disconnect it from your vehicle. If you leave your battery connected and start your car up once a month or so, your battery is probably getting slowly discharged over time from parasitic draws in your car’s electrical system and from the energy it takes to start your car. Unless you drive your car for at least 10-15 minutes and a reasonable speed, your alternator may not have a chance to replace the energy used to start your vehicle in the first place. May be of assistance to you ??
  17. No, they replace the Halo rings or 'Angel Eyes '
  18. I hate yellow bulbs, so have gone around the car changing all bulbs interior and exterior to white LEDs, I like the clean white light and think it makes the car seem more modern. Well yesterday, thanks to Ebay Seller Mtecpower these arrived on Fed-Ex - BTW, they only charged US$14 freight, and they arrived within a week !! Fitting was a simple plug and play, the box included wiring connectors for E39, and for other models they fit directly according to the instructions. The Car Before with Halogen Factory Halos : During the fitment, one new LED and one Factory : Finished - both LEDs fitted - No Errors on the OBC either With the HIDs on - I like how the colours match : In the dark Overall I am very happy, nice and clean white, and if you can believe the seller, they are the brightest / whitest on the market.
  19. They need to " Respect My Authoritah "
  20. Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102 !!! He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years) Rolls.bmp
