  1. I am off to UK for a month in May. Also stopover in Singapore on way over and Kuala Lumpur on the way back. At this stage have 'side trips' to Ireland and Paris. Has anybody got any suggestions of 'Must See' places to go while I'm over there? Either 'Car related' or not - wifey not so interested in cars Cheers!
  2. A couple of the UK ebay sellers list theirs as Plug'n'Play. But we all know how well that sometimes goes!
  3. I have an ex Japan 1996 E39 540i and find that the factory low beams are dangerously dim. Has anybody gone down the upgrade route on one of these? A quick look on ebay UK shows Blue Xenon bulbs and HID kits as the common options. Seems the HID kits that are listed as 'Quality, no ECU errors' are around 75 - 100 UK Pounds. There are some on Trademe for NZ $230 ish, but I wonder if they are cheap and nasty? Any experience with these would be appreciated. Thanks
  4. I am no expert, but I have been told that BMW and Holden stud pattern are the same, so I guess it follows that other GM product is too? Also I have been told that the 540i has a different sized centre, and wheels need to be specific for that model or need to be lathed to fit.
  5. Nice Car! How do you keep those light carpets clean!! As for the AV input, I have the leads from Jochen, but have not tried it yet. I need to spend a day on mine, as I have the bits all ready to do Reverse Camera, AV input and Angel Eyes. Would be interested to see how you get on with the Ipod adaptor and AV inputs, as you are likely to get these done before I get a chance! Welcome to the world of 540i
  6. Personally I think it is better to get a plate that is 'Personal' to you, not the car. That way you can retain it for your next drive. Having said that, I do have a car specific one for my GTi, but got it cheap on Trademe, and don't intent on selling that car!
  7. Have you Googled? I had quick look and found possible common faults are relay and rain sensor. What exactly is not working? One suggestion was a new wiper relay (tall beige one under the passenger side cabin filter box in engine compartment) There are lots of E39 common fault websites out there. Best of luck.
  8. Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make New Zealand great. Not to imply that New Zealand is necessarily greater than any other country. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

  11. Yep, 15 years spent fixing office equipment , and I'm sure this is not made up! Should have seen some of the machines I had to fix, especially after school teachers had a go at them! Glad to be out of that game!

  14. See attached pics. These were on a M6, then tried on a 318ti, but were too wide and stuck outside the guards, so are up for sale. Size is 7 1/2 J x 16 H2, with brand new Hancook 205/55 R16 tyres. If interested, PM me and I'll pass your info onto the owner - a soon to be Bimmersport member!
  15. To those of us who have children in our lives, whether they are our own, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or students... here is something to make you chuckle. Whenever your children are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to His own children. After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And the first thing he said was "DON'T!" "Don't what?" Adam replied. "Don't eat the forbidden fruit." God said. "Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit? Hey Eve...we have forbidden fruit!" "No Way!" "Yes way!" "Do NOT eat the fruit! " said God. "Why?" "Because I am your Father and I said so!" God replied, wondering why He hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants. A few minutes later, God saw His children having an apple break and He was ticked! "Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?" God asked. "Uh huh," Adam replied. "Then why did you?" said the Father. "I don't know," said Eve. "She started it!" Adam said. "Did not!" "Did too!" "DID NOT!" Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve should have children of their own. Thus the pattern was set and it has never changed. BUT THERE IS REASSURANCE IN THE STORY! If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself. If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for you? THINGS TO THINK ABOUT! 1. You spend the first two years of their life teaching them to walk and talk. Then you spend the next sixteen telling them to sit down and shut up. 2. Grandchildren are God's reward for not killing your own children. 3. Mothers of teens now know why some animals eat their young. 4. Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said. 5. The main purpose of holding children's parties is to remind yourself that there are children more awful than your own. 6. We childproofed our homes, but they are still getting in. ADVICE FOR THE DAY: Be nice to your kids. They will choose your nursing home one day. AND FINALLY: IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF TENSION AND YOU GET A HEADACHE, DO WHAT IT SAYS ON THE ASPIRIN BOTTLE: "TAKE TWO ASPIRIN" AND "KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN"!!!!!

  19. Didn't know they made an M5 in 2 Litre Auto!! Gee, I wonder if the badge is fake? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-127644295.htm
  20. In the back of the garage I have a 1962 Holden EK Sedan project. The guy that was helping me out, doing the rust repairs has moved overseas, and I need to finish it myself! He was using his own Tig welder, but that has gone with him! I am looking at buying a Mig to complete the car, as I think a MIG is easier for DIY welding for someone like me with basic experience only. What specs should I look for? How low can I go in price before I get a really shittty machine that is a pain to use? Should I go Gasless or Gas? if I go gas, what is the story re bottles / regulators etc. ( Argonsheild or Co2 ?? ) Thanks guys, sorry for all the questions, but would like to get some feedback from those who have used machines, not just salesmen trying to make a sale!
  21. My Personal Hate List 1. People asking for a Buy Now - If I wanted to have one, I would have listed it with one! 2. Requests for Fixed price Offers, but then no decisions! 3. Over-inflated freight costs 4. People ( have one at the moment ) who take a week or so to post the item ( excuses such as ' I need to find the cord' - FFS people - have the item ready B4 you list! ) 5. People who obviously are on the PC, as they bid as auction ends, or do a Buy Now, but then take 4 or 5 days to respond and pay! 6. People who complain that the Used Item they bought is missing some small insignificent cover or similar! ( Buy new if you want in new condition! ) 7. People who place bad feedback without asking me to remedy any issues first! Well, that's my rant
  22. The car I had before my 540i was a Nissan Stagea 2.5 Litre 4WD Wagon. It LOVED drinking gas! I did a test, ran it for 1000 kms onm Shell 91, then for 1000 kms on Shell 95. Overall the cost was the same - the extra cost of the gas was equalled by the cost savings thru better economy, AND the car seemed to respond better to the 95 octanr, so i run 95 in my BMW and my Pug 206gti. Even the lawnmower and chainsaw get 95, as the guy at the chainsaw shop said they have a lot more 'problems' with saws running on 91. I have heard some people say that Shell is some of the worst gas, but I go there because of the Woolworths 4c vouchers and Flybuys - maybe I need to shop at Pakn'nSave and get BP vouchers!
