I took my E39 headlights right out of the car and 'polished' them with wet and dry sandpaper, 1000 then 1500 grit, followed by Repo Extra cut Car Polish, finally Meguiars Polycarb polish. Keep the sandpaper wet, takes a bit of elbow grease and time, but they come up nice and clear and the car looks heaps better and the lights work a lot better too. Worth a try, if you are looking at new covers / lenses, what have you got to loose!

Last time I rang them it was just a machine, not a person. You just listen to the prompts, answer the questions about weather it is installed on another machine ( say NO of course ) Enter your key ( Sticker should be on bottom of laptop ) and the machine reads you back a new number.

I have to say front fogs are a bugbear of mine too. Especially SUVs as they are higher and shoot right in my face. The law used to be that any 'extra' lights, eg Fog or driving lights, had to turn off with the dipswitch, but it seems since the flood of Jap imports with separately wired fogs, the powers that be have let this go. I don't mind people using them if they need them, but please show some consideration for fellow drivers and turn them off when you dip the mains. To be honest I think most people have them on, cause they think it looks cool, but that is the same argument as the people who smoke cause they think it is cool, in both cases they are just dickheads! /rant

e36 stereo ipod connectivity..
camera doctor replied to AzonicNick's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
I have done similar mod on my E39, but I have found that since the tape is a low level input, the volume was a LOT lower than the CD / radio, which was a pian when switching from one source to another. I solved that by putting a line driver ( pre amp ) between the ipod output and the tape inputs, it was adjustable, so i adjusted it so volume is the same as CD/radio, all sweet. -
............ you'll just have to buy both I am leaning to the Merc, always thought these were a future collectable, but then again, I have a mate with a Merc of this vintage, and it is a money pit!! You need to drive both, lots of cheap airfares around at the moment, see which one makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up most ! ........... or buy both !!

Has anybody got a cheap pod for sale? Does not matter is the LCD is broken, click wheel stuffed etc, cause I just want it so i can leave it attached to my ipod interface in the 540i, rather than taking mine out all the time so i can use it. Needs to have connector, so shuffles need not apply. Anything else considered, PM me if you have anything stuffed away. Thanks

Inappropriate or Irrelevant Content on Bimmersport
camera doctor replied to bravo's topic in General Discussion
Great post. From a personal perspective, I have been a little aprehensive to post lately, as there are a few members that seem to delight in posting argumentative or plain rude replies to posts. As the old saying goes - if you don not have something nice to say, don't say anything! That aside, I enjoy this community, and would hate to see the few to ruin it for the masses. Good to see the admin/mod team are aware and are on top of this. Great work guys. -
Luv it Forwarding that to my Aussie mate !!

Yea, that could be the issue with V8 one. His one is the same as this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-213152838.htm But, you can buy the older Diesel ones much cheaper ( 80 series ) For example http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-202813544.htm

Ollie, my 2c worth, and I hope I don't get flamed for this .... My Bro in Law always has a 4x4 as a racecar tow vehicle, normally a 100 series Land Cruiser, but last time he changed he tried a Prado. Hooked the tralier on and was going down a hill, a car pulled out of a driveway, hit the brakes ( not real hard either ) and it locked up and skidded down the hill. He talked to Toyota, and they said something about the ABS system regarding the four wheels not 'talking to each other' on that model. He since when back to a full sized Crusier - at the end of the day, it is a good idea to have the tow vehicle heavier than what is is towing - basic physics. He has a V8 petrol one, and reckons the economy is not a lot different from the diesels he had, all things taken into consideration - plus it pulls like a busload of schoolboys Much larger too, you can carry lots more spares, or 7/8 people in comfort. Worth a test drive?

Alleged BMW road rage attack leaves van driver critical
camera doctor replied to HELLBM's topic in General Discussion
Bloody media! No wonder my BMW got coined !! The media has a lot to answer for regarding dangerous stereotypes. The article in today's paper says ' blue van hit by BMW ' ..... why was the brand of the 'blue van' not mentioned?? Tall poppy syndrome? Any Journos on here? Can you explain the reasoning?? Other than small minded ( small dicked ? ) jornos who hate BMW drivers, as they have to drive the papers Pulsar????? /rant -
Clear Light upgrade - E39 540i Schnitzer
camera doctor replied to greenday-rulz21's topic in Showroom
So, were these new or from a wrecker? I only ask as you mention crazing... -
This worked for mine - no cables etc needed : set ignition to pos. II enter TV mode enter "settings" enter "contrast" when the green contrast bar is visible, push the knob and keep it pressed turn ignition off (keep button pressed!) wait 8-10 seconds (timing must be accurate!) release the knob turn on ignition again Best of Luck.

You mentioned the Canon 90is - great bit of kit. Some shops still have the 80is at low prices too. These Ixus cameras used to be in the $1000 price bracket and are still well built! Just keep it ( and ANY digicam ) away from sand - I spend most of my day cleaning sand out of cameras! Cause the cameras are so small, the drive gears etc are tiny, and literally ONE grain of sand between teeth can cause them to jam.

E39 Electronic Upgrades
camera doctor replied to nordschleife's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
I would not spent lots of dollars on the TV part - once NZ turns Analogue TV off in 2012 it will be of no use! http://www.beehive.govt.nz/node/31480 I think you can use the AV input for your ipod video - I have the cables, joiners etc ready to do this to my 540i, just have not got around to it! Hotwire or Jochen will jump in here I'm sure! Enjoy, and BTW, the other thing you can do, which is also on my list is a reverse camera - the arse on these cars is too high when backing a trailer!! -
Can I ask why?? I am a camera repairer, and I see lots of cameras daily! Some models give better results at 3.2 Megapixel v's cheap 8/10/12 Megapixel models! As Brent said - the lens is more important than the Megapixels - the sensor can't improve a poor quality image, but a good quality lens can improve a low pixel count! IMHO
