Got it. Trick was to hold constant pressure on it and eventually the urethane stretches and breaks. Thanks to Glenn for the tip.

I bought this up quickly with my dad who is a senior lecturer at victoria. He said the HoD is obliged to do something about it and the fact that the lecturers spot will be hard to fill etc is a seperate, non related issue. We didn't get any further than that but if you have some specific questions ask me and I will pass them on to him. Nice going on the other As btw!

nup cant even get a razor blade between the block and sump.

So I'm in the process of redoing my sump gasket and it is urethaned on. I cant break the seal by prying at it with a screwdriver or by hitting it with a hammer via a block of wood, so how do I do it? ps. the reason I have to redo it is I used meths to clean the surfaces last time, and since meths is oil based the urethane didn't make a perfect seal so it weeps slightly. Thanks.
