Mine used to be pretty bad like this (m10 e30). I cleaned up the distributor rotor point and dizzy cap points with a bit of fine grit paper and it made a huge difference - it snatches much earlier and settles into idle sooner. Worth a try if you haven't done this already, but as an old hand bimmersporter I bet "check dizzy cap" was the first thing you thought of .

Flywheel balanced, machined and lightened to 6.8kg and pressure plate skimmed and balanced by Bob at Balancing Specialists. He's well priced ($160 for the above), and great to chat with so I highly recommend him. New sachs clutch in there too ($170). Also picked up some 15x7 et25 BBS RAs off a mk2 gti. Just need a couple of tools to finish off the manual conversion and sump gasket replacement then I'l put the RAs on. If anyone has an engine support bar I could borrow that would be awesome.
