It grows on you! And its 5%! ...maybe that's why it grows on you

^ lol. The goo replaces the gasket. I'm not qualified enough to say why (ask Glenn), but since you seem interested, the procedure is: -Clean both mating surfaces -Clean any oil from inside or outside the block that might drip down onto the mating surfaces -Put a tiny amount of goo on the block surface and sump surface and smear so it covers all of both surfaces very thinly (I finally found a use for my subway card here) -Run two thin (like 2-3mm) beads around the sump, one inside and one outside the bolt holes -Fit sump and attach all the bolts just barely finger tight -Wait at least 30 mins -Torque sump bolts to 9nm Cheers for the comment.

NZ lager $15 for 12 at the dairy over the road... been drinking a fair bit of that since I moved here. Not sure how you guys can drink so much coke, its such shite!

Teng do a 20 inch 3/8th drive extension. I bought one from AES on Friday and I've used it heaps over the weekend, its also good for getting at the top nut on engine mounts, getting at thee pedal box bolts, using as a breaker bar with a universal. Love it Connecting up a whole bunch of extensions gets too flexy aye.
-
Yea bro, I've got a busy week ahead too so I'l text you when I get back in the break. Your E30 is on the road is it? You weren't driving down Remuera road today by any chance?

Clean sump + the goo Glenn uses. Wobbly hand: Subframe was removed to do this one, its so worth it.
-
Sweet, I thought these were going on your E30 but this is even better. Nice jack btw.
-
Congrats Tony, looked like a sweet buy even with your little issues. Take it to Glenn at Botany Motor Works when he gets back after April 6th if you can't find a fix yourself.

Still not finished, uni and lack of tools keeps getting in the way! Hope to have it finished on Tues. I've taken a couple of random photos but not much. I'll do a little write up later but in the mean time just pm me any questions. Make sure you have 25 inches of extension to get at the bellhousing bolts, a torque wrench and torx sockets - e10, e12 and e14 are what I've had to use. @Ari - yep. See my showroom thread for shiny stuff. How light did you go?
-
Awesome. Can't wait to see what happens. Ps. Theres a documented m54 -> E30 swap on r3vlimited if you didn't already know.
-
FWIW new sachs clutch on its own was $170 odd from Euro-Italian.
-
Should just pull one out of another E30. Lembo might have one - 0430040550. Or BMAE (Malaga). Don't waste too much time on a 320i.
-
Thanks John.

Aha, that makes sense. Good thing I have a new rear main seal here ready to go

In the process of replacing my sump gasket I noticed part of this long thin spring poking out of the back of the crank (see green circle). I gave it a gentle pull, as you do, and it came out. WTF is it? Car is a 325i touring automatic, with a SA m20b25 motor. Thanks..
