    Motronic to Ljet

    Crazy, because the L-jet ECU only has a fuel map for a 2 or 2.3 litre engine. Being able to adjust the timing is pointless if you can't get enough gas into it. thats why I can't believe my mates worked so well. Would it be possible to get a custom chip for a 2.5 L-Jet? Easy enough to come by for motronic. Still sounds like more trouble than its worth. Chris- They are talking about the different engine management systems. Pre FL cars run a fuel managment system call L-Jetronic while facelift and all 325i use an engine managment system called Motronic. L-jet is an older system, advantages are you can advance timing and is easier to convert to aftermarket ECU. Stick with what you have. Motronic 320 makes more power than Pre FL 320 anyway

    haha Looking back a year or 2 ago I l can't believe we made my mates M20B25 ran off a 320i L jet ECU and loom. ran real well, (too well in fact ) It just shouldn't have worked
  3. No, actually quite a poor heat conductor. What it does have is a very high specific heat capacity, which is what makes it awesome at cooling stuff down.

    you should be able to shocks for the 45mm housings as they also came on the early 318i. But go for the 51mm housing if you have them.

  7. All looking pretty good grant, I'll be happy if my manifold ends up looking like yours. Hi or low impedance? I believe the early ones were low while the later body shape are high. I maybe interested if grant doesn't buy them, depending what sort they are. I need to start aquiring bits.

  10. I was in whangas 2 years ago and they were everywhere, didn't go away this year so cant say the same about e36's

    buying e30

    definatly, I have seen several e30 where the firewall was badly rusted. Pull the rubber cover down and have a really good look. Also check around rear shock towers and wheel well. Chances are if theres rust there its in other places.
  12. you also need to add the relays and fuses. The plugs for the foglight switch might be slightly different, nothing some pliers can't fix though.

    Seats...

    I currently have black leather seats but my front seats are getting pretty old and tired. they could be fixed up but for what it will cost its not really worth it as they are only standard leather seats that I slide about in way too much. So, I am looking for some replacements. Ideally black leather sports seats would be the go so if anyone has a set I would like to buy them. But I doubt anyone has those so I think I might try and get some basic black bucket seats. They need to be easily reclinable cos my car is a 2 door. I don't want anything tacky or something thats a mission to get in or out of. Any ideas?

  18. everyone prety much gets the bmw short shifters and just replaces some of the bushings. As for which lever to get, I reckon it depends on how what condition your box is in. Mine is getting pretty old so I got a 1.9 Z3 and I'm glad I didn't go any shorter. But if you box shifts real good then you could go shorter pretty easily.
  19. surely megasquirt will work out cheaper? You need to buy the board itself and the TPS (unless I've forgotten something). E30 factory sensors are compatible with MS, what are the other huge costs? what ever one I decide to go with will have to be Wideband O2 compatible, last I knew both Link and MS were working it.

    what andrew said. what makes it a 318iS though? Better motor than normal 318? I only ask becuase I would have thought being a sport model it would have more sports goodies. (Seats, steering wheel, etc)
  21. like I said, too many different circuits. I reckon easiest way would be to run a wire from dash to relay in boot that cut either earth (assuming the lights don't touch the body) or cut the power to lights you didn't want on.
  22. could be tricky, cos the left and right hand sides of the car are on different fuses, and those fuses control the front lights as well. Maybe you could cut the earth wires to the housings?
