How long until new E30 shells etc can be bought? https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/subject_1601210183332.html

I actually like those on the 130, apparently I have strange taste in wheels though.
-
Ks are fairly irrelevant if looked after, there are 130s in the 400,000km range now doing track days that have never had more than sump and rocker off for gaskets, proper maintenance is what actually matters (and owners giving a feck)
-
Yeah the cheaper material didnt look/feel as nice, the better one is identical to stock (if not plusher).
-
Nah, he mentioned hes done heaps of them with sunroofs though. I pulled in and opened the door, he looked at the 130 and said "Headliner?"

$450+GST for the premium material, dropped it off at 8.30am and was done by 11am.

I hopped in mine last week and had the same.. doh. https://aucklandautoupholstery.co.nz/ - Jimmy here did a great job, works out of his garage but obviously has a passion for doing good auto upholstery. 130 headliner looks new (and he has the exact fabric)

Auckland to Havelock north and back in a day. My ass appreciated the Recaros, was actually not bad for 11 hours sitting on it. Saw a white E87 with ACS ducktail and black wheels in Taupo, wouldve been a cool pic

Stock 130 around the ring, it actually winds out pretty impressively.

This is interesting, tuned length headers with swappable internal velocity stack lengths. Available early 2025 (in carbon) https://www.elementperformance.co.uk/ S series noise for an N52..

I did it with the gearbox out, so was easy. Access probably a bitch with gearbox in.
-
Scan it is the answer with a proper scanner that talks BMW, you are pissing into the wind blind at the moment and the car will know exactly why it wont start.

Looks like a solid project - https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/130i/listing/4859906831

Yeah its a bitch to get back in yourself, did you do it with the engine in? I smashed the sh*t out of my knuckles winding up 5 feet of extensions and universal joints getting the upper bolts on the gearbox...
-
Why would you change the master cylinder? Just bolt the brakes on ( Coding it - Yes and no, coding it improves the feel and changes the brake bias (and stability control) to deal with the pimp disks. BMW did the work to make it work right, might as well do it (takes 3 min). You can drive it around fine without coding however.

Having a 130 and a Mk3 Octavia VRS (essentially the same as a Mk7 GTI), can categorically say the BMW is cheaper and easier to service. Parts are cheaper, less things break, and N52B30 is very very DIY documented. 130 is also much better built, and stock is significantly faster. The only real area that the VW product is substantially much better is if you were looking at an Auto 130, the VW DSG is WAY superior... if most of your driving is sitting in Auckland traffic a DSG golf is a good option to consider, otherwise 130. Dont worry about PreLCI or LCI (silver Vs black top N52s), the black top rocker covers are plastic and crack (and have integrated CCV), the silver top rocker covers are magnesium and corrode (and have external CCV). Both sh*t emselves in different ways and both will have oil leaks. Power outputs are identical, black tops are cheaper to make and hit the newer emission standards easier. Buy on manual Vs auto, service history (beyond the BMW minimums) and condition, then options, then k's (in that order)

BMW did heaps of fishy stuff like that to ensure market separation between the models. If you look at the raw performance numbers of stock vehicles, an E82 130i would not be much slower than a 135i which was much more expensive on the dealers lot for example, so they detuned it. 130i got the full beans tune so it had more power than its competition, R32 golf, no need for a 125 E87 as there wasnt competition for it.
-
They are already N52B30, and the only difference unlike the other detuned N52B30s is the DME flash, have 3 stage DISA etc etc. Flash 130i DME and its full beans N52.

E87 130i - aftermarket rims touching front brake calipers
Jacko replied to gojozoom's topic in Wheels & Tyres
17s are always going to be a bit touch and go with 130 brakes, I suspect more dont fit than do.
