not to bad , 180 is good 165 is getting down , but to be expected for one of these. if down near 140 i would be looking at pulling the head off etc. used to get upwards of 200 for a older e28 535i with higher compression pistons. give it a good hot thrash and see if it comes up any

do they have the ali or steel shifter plate at the back of the gearbox . if they are different then some of the internals may also be different see here for pics http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....0&hl=getrag

yes most 535is will have lsd . check engine for camhsaft wear. head gasgets will need doing any where from 200-300,000km or 20 years etc due to corrsion etc(no biggie) otherwise pretty good cars, nice to drive

they came with a few options , which e28 are you refering to a 535i?? they came with getrag 260 gearboxes , 535i had sensor holes for the motronic crank sensors. 525i and 528i did not have the holes but most had the casting there to excpet the holes , early models had the 260 with the sheet metal gearlever mech holder , later ones had the ali arms. some rare 528i and 535i (from UK mainly) had the getrag 265 sports box with the detachable bellhouing . some very early 525i 528i had a similer box with a overdrive version of the getrag 265 box. why are you asking???

no they keep going , its reading 515,000 odd now it was only the early e34 with the digital odo read out that used to stop at 300,000km or 300,000miles depedning on wether it was a nz or uk car etc
-
its all about servicing and whats been replaced etc my e28 m535i with 515,000km now
-
what he said , it nots going to start without the proper cranking signals from teh flywheel sensors etc. you can drill out the holes in the gearbox if you know what you are doing , has to be just in the right place. also you can weld on a crank reference marker to the flywheel if you know what you are doing . i know where there is a g260 from a early 325i with the holes in it for the sesnors . but maybe convert to the later e30 motoronic system front hub , ecu , engine loom complete etc
