  1. http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....rent+hartge535i" Also of note was that SA got an ///M 745i - fitted with the M88 engine out of the M1 and the original M5. Brent came into possession of one, but I believe he, ahem, raped and murdered it?" havn't killed it yet , yes I have very rare RHD 85 M745i with M88 (M5, M6 engine in it, thats where they should be anyway ). have sold body shell to a happy owner who already has one of these cars and others, he will be fitting a bmw v8, v12 or something to make interesting or maybe just the std 3.5l bmw engine (which suits the car better anyway). yes the turbo'ed M745i was only LHD , they couldn't be bothered trying to fit the turbo plumbing around the steering box etc so they just plonked the M88 twincam engine in it , M745 its a 3.5L unit with same power as a 4.5L engine hence the model name . but problem with this car , is most of them were fitted with the 4 spd auto , with the very long first gear and a engine that develops its torque further up the rev range , so its slow off the line untill it winds up past 4000rpm then takes off ,. only about 5or 10 where made manual , and they had the dog leg close ratio box in them which knocked 2 secs off the 0-100km/h time .

just fit the 2L/2.3L head/cam to it ,( a friend of mine has good one if you need) . 2l or 2.5L manifold , replace 525e ecu with e30 325i ecu of about same year and chip it if you want . or save yourself the work and just sell the car and buy a e28 535i 218HP with 310Nm ,weight about 1380kg alot more torque and power than 525e i have owned both , i like the 525ee i had , torque pulled in early , lazy motor . but i have had a few 535i incl M535i i have now and they are much quicker and power just keeps going all the way to 6k rpm . m20 and m30 have different gearboxes , driveshafts , and a few brackets etc are different in the engine bay . radiator etc etc . i could supply some parts if needed to do conversion .... a freind of mine did the 2L head, cam, manifold conversion went well , still ran on 525e ecu ok'ish. if you dont mind the little bit extra gas comsumpsion go for the 535i ... there is a couple on trade me now , quite cheap . just watch for rust in all the usual places . good luck with your project

  5. heres a pic of some of the differences . and some info from a web page .web page """""Shifter R & R""""" This is a good time to rebuild the shift bushings to be able to start out with a good snug linkage assembly. Parts are relatively cheap at the dealer compared to getting a UUC, BavAuto, etc. short shift kit. As a minimum, get the items indicated in this jpeg The ETK lists several part numbers for the knuckle which attaches directly to the shift shaft and the dealer provided the wrong part the 1st time. I printed the alternate page from the ETK and went back to the dealer with my old knuckle and was able to get an exact replacement. I was tempted to just press out the old plastic bushing insert and machine a new one out of Delrin and press it in but as it turns out, the link rod hole is oblong in the new ond and would be much more difficult for me to hit the proper shape & tolerances so spent the $18 for a new knuckle. It comes with a piece of sponge which gets coated with heavy grease front & back before installing it on the shaft. A nice upgrade at this time is to install a short throw shift lever. The stock e32 shift lever provides smooth action but has a fairly long throw. Nearly all model BMW shifters will interchange with any other BMW. I ended up getting a Euro e36 M3 shifter since it provides a 30% reduction in throw and remains close to the stock height of the e32 shift knob, $40 at the dealer. As it turns out, the 30% reduction produces a noticeable amount of notchiness in the shift action & I would guess one with more on the order of 15% to 20% would provide a good match & I'll probably swap it out for the 1.9 Z3 shift lever. Here's a jpeg showing various model shifters: The missing part number for the e36 M3 shifter is 25 11 1 222 955"""""""""

  18. what year is your car , is it M20 or m50 etc . if m20 you could do a 2.7 conversion from a older 525e with your head on it . good for about 190-200hp .. if its m50 type , get a 2.5 or 2.8 . but realy dont waste your time , just sell it and go and buy a 540i 286HP they only cost about $5-8k now . or a good 535i 211hp maybe even a manual one . problem with converting a 520i is that every thing underneth the car like driveshafts, barkes , diff , rear swing arms etc is all smaller ....
  19. try european car parts in papakura he has a few sets of leather there . 2991234 , say i metioned it . brent
  20. used kit from a wrecked 92 320ci i had , been sitting in my garage for over a 1year . found a wrecker crowd local , didn't charge me much to fit , used a m20 flywheel from 320i e30 and e34 525i clutch e34 525i starter .(couldn't use the 525i flywheel beacuse it was to fat and fould with the sump) had to swap diff over as well to match ratios in the manual ( has 1:1 top gear) so it still revs a little higher than before . but so much nicer to drive . had to fit old rear section of driveshaft to new manual section ( beacause 320ci diff was smaller ) car feels lighter and more responsive and looks like should be better ecnomy. they only charged me $500
  21. i have a artical in a bmw uk mag . they say pretty hard to get more power out of the M42 or M44 with out spending heaps of $$$$$. they reckon better to just upgrade to 6cylinder engine like 2.5 l m20 or 2.7L m20 or maybe go with M50 2.5l etc . i have a good M30 3.5L engine which will bolt to your M10 gearbox . came from a 1990 535i e34 only done 140K . will come with loom etc , has the right sump to fit to e30 etc .. http://www.e30.de/335e.htmlink
  22. sorted , found that the M20 525i e34 flywheel i had supplied is to thick and was rubbing on the lower part of the sump bolts . lucky they had a another fly wheel from a e30 320i (looks a bit lighter though) and heaps lighter than the original M50 dual mass unit . so hopefully by tommorrow all my drivers cars are going to be manual .
  23. just getting my e36 325CiA converted to a manual 5spd and using a M20 flywheel and clutch , all fitted in but the guys are having problems with the starter , fitted a e30 one but only turned over slowly . which one should i use , they are tiring another now from a e34 525i M20 ..
