did the engine swap over the weekend , finshed wiring , fuel system at 12:30am monday morning no exhaust conected or the the cooling system . started it up fired first time (very loud at midnight ) runs well . next day sorted the radiator etc , fitted exhaust , retorque the head , replaced faulty clutch slave cylinder . just got to sort out the brakes (new discs ,pads etc) abs ,and brake pad sensors . swap wheels over ,weld some steel then take it though for a wof. fitted S/S exhaust sytem ( from one of my parts car ) , sounds quite good . does 1900rpm at 100km/h in top gear . (will change diff from 3.07 to 3.45 ) should take it to about 2300rpm at 100km/h

camchain . can never seem to get the bolts line up as the manual says they should for timming the camshaft .

had to use a mixture of valves ,rocker shafts and springs from 3 different heads . the head that was on the 735i m had corrision , and 3 cracked exhaust valves .and a small crack between an exhaust valve and spark plug hole . i had another head given to me a while ago which had dropped a valve and distroyed it . was able to use some of the valves , double valve springs and had the camshaft rebuilt . also had another bare head given to me which was a good one , and a box of valves ,rocker shafts etc which i was able to ues (does pay to throw things out ,never know when you might need them)

just had this head redone , resurfaced , valve grind ,double valve springs fitted , rebuilt camshaft . just bolted to block , with 10:1compression . fitted the manifolds etc ready to be swapped into the NZ new 1986 M535i ,its only done 465000km , i saved it from a farm up north .allmost chicken coupe material . engine stills runs but has 2 worn camshaft lobes at the front . so i picked up a old 84 735i with less millage and I'm rebuild that engine .

i went the other way , to make sure everthing is hidden from thieves , check out my web pages My WebpageMy Webpage as well . heard of a guy who had his 6by9 speakers ripped from the rear SHELF though the rear quater windows after they couldn't get in because of the deadlocks . parked outside his bedroom in the driveway .

what ever you do , dont buy a all in one home theatre system . buy seperate components , at least if one one component fails or is low quality you can change it . or just buy 2nd hand good quality . i work at stereo world , so if you want a good deal on new stuff give me a call . 09-6301204wk brent

Exactly Andrew. Why bother building an engine out of mismatched parts. A 325 or 525 wreck will only cost around $1000 and you end up with plenty of spares i agree . just pick up an old 525e e28 2.7L and stick your 2l head or pick up a 323i head (appartly thats the best flowing head) or 2.5l head . 323i runs l-jetronic

i have a good head from a M30 block 2.5L would fit on ok .only done 117000miles $250
