    E39 528i ACS

I would rather have got an M54 530i, but as i said - this was cheap, plus the added bonus of ACS goodies. Doesn't seem to be too bad so far, i'm halfway through tank number 1 and am at 340ish k. I have a 50k commute on the open road to work though. Best result was this morning with minimal traffic - did 7.9l/100km over those 50k. Traffic and city driving sees a dramatic rise in consumption of course.

Yeah, should be a bit of fun. If i keep it long term i'd like to go manual, but i said that with my 540, and it never happened. So should keep my trap shut! Bit easier to get the bits for the sixes though.

    E39 528i ACS

Hi Team Picked this up on Tuesday. Scored it dirt cheap at auction. A LOT of car for the pocket money paid for it. Deets are: '97 528i Fjordgrau Metallic Staggered 18" Schnitzer Type 3's Schnitzer Rear apron Schnitzer side skirts. missing Schnitzer front lip (Was there when PO bought it at the beginning of the year, but is now gone) The list of things to fix: Front tyres Brake light CCM warning Coolant flush Find front lip Handbrake Brake shimmy at highway speed Dead Pixel problem Widescreen upgrade + DVB-T support? M5 style rear Lip Paint for bonnet/Boot - oxidisation on bonnet, boot paint a bit thin Condensating headlight Rim Refurb Shadowline Front end rattle Rear caliper rattle Vanos seals Valve Cover Gasket Cooling system refresh Motorsport Steering wheel Probably will take me a wee while to gather some momentum with this. Also have a Bike project on the go. Edit: Added some phone pics taken in yesterdays storm.
  6. Welcome! Does yours have the high or low obc?
  7. Mines changed too - Now in a Fjordgrau E39 528iA SE
  8. Hi All, After a schnitzer front lip for a non m/s E39. My car has the rest of the kit, but p/o appears to have rip[ped off the front lip and it is now absent. like this:
  9. Next question - how common is it for the coolant level sensors to go in these cars? OBC is giving a coolant level warning, however the coolant level is fine, and engine temp is rock solid at half way.
  10. Thanks Team. Will keep an eye on it and only worry if it happens when driving. Intend to replace the exhaust eventually anyway and will most likely de-cat when i'm doing this.
  11. E39 528i I'm getting a Check Control message when the ignition is switched to 'on': "SLOW! Cat. Overheat" Message goes away as soon as car is running. Info on the net seems to point to either faulty MAF and/or post cat o2 sensors, or a faulty EGT sensor (Japan market model). Does this seem right? Also, how easy is a cat delete on the e39? What does one do with the post cat o2 sensors?
  12. Not my actual car, but the closest pic i could find on the Net. 1977 Leyland Mini 1000s. Essentially a lower powered version of the aussie 1275GT. High back seats, 3 dial dash, chrome lift up door handles, similar flares as in the photo and 10" Jelly bean mags. Bumpers were chrome, and it had the outside door hinges. Otherwise almost identical. Spend more time parked up on the front lawn than on the road. Ended up selling it for $500 with a completely collapsed right hand CV joint. Wish i still had it - Was the start of my Mini obsession.

    Benz E63 AMG

I had my first E34 540i down to 8.1l/100k travelling from Taupo to Wellington, 5 adults and luggage, Cruising at about 108km/h.
  14. Breadvan all the way. Z4 is nice, but the breadvan is just mean looking.

    E34 ACS 540i

I forgot to mention also - for the check control errors relating to tail lights/licence plate etc, check the loom that traces the left rear boot hinge. It's a an area that the loom frequently flexes and has been known to crack and short as a result. Fixed the same errors on my first E34 by repairing that section of loom.

    E34 ACS 540i

I'm a big fan of teh V8 E34's and i have to say - Yours is gorgeous! Stick with teh Type 1's, they suit the car perfectly i think.
  17. Another one of his. Been on TM as long as I have been on Bimmersport. That's about 5 years. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-240089175.htm

    X5 Ute

Much prefer the M5 ute. http://www.m5ute.com.au/
  19. Currently looking for a 4kish runabout to replace our ageing commuter hack. I currently cover approx. 120km a day, so reliability (Alfa... HurHur!) and fuel efficiency are reasonable considerations. I've always really liked the 156 shape, and having previously owned a 1.5 'Sud, I have quite a soft spot for the dark horse that is Alfa. I've got my eye on a nice Low K 2.0 Twin Spark Manual sedan that fits my budget. I know to stay away from Selespeeds. Does anyone here have any experience with these cars? I know the common faults, and I know the Cam belts are a 60k change item, however I don't know what general part availability and servicing costs are like in this country. Anyone owned one? Cheers

    e34 540i

Had one of those on my FjordGrau 540i for a while. Sounded shite lol. cut out mufflers up the front where cats would be and weld cobys in their place. gives it a nice subtle v8 burble at idle and a growl up top.
  21. That's the 4 cobys that sit after the headers (2 each bank). One of the reasons i flicked it - i couldnt get it up the driveway of the house i was moving to haha I used to hang around Clubsub at the time (username - RSB). The E34 was WAY better on gas on long trips if i took it easy, and i didnt have to give it as much sh*t to access its 210 kiloponies. And then there is that noise it makes... Sub was WAYWAYWAY cheaper in traffic though, and a different kind of fun over the twisty hill roads.
  22. 540i(a)utomatic. SE just means top spec i think. I added the springs (H&R's), shocks (monroe sensatrac), wheels, and rear lip. Had the inlet manifold and valley pan gaskets done, along with the PCV valve. replaced a coolant hose that ran to teh trans i think?? Mechanic reckoned someone had spent some coin on the front end in the past too. Did this to me too. sticky sensor IIRC Yeah man feel free to pop in. PM me when you know when!
  23. hah. have been wondering whether it was still alive! was a cool car. I miss it!
  24. looks like my old car - the guy i sold it to lived up your ways. plate SY37xx?
