Thank you guys:) Haha yeah 135 would be a perfect bday present

Thanks for this, all sounds good. My main concern was that I'd have to replace brakes / tires, which would make it a very expensive exercise. Now just need to find out from NZI what is their policy on track days.
-
I'm planning to go to one of the track days at Hampton Downs in the near future, but I've never been to one before. So I've got a couple of questions I'd like to ask, and any other info that is useful for a beginner is more than welcome. Fist, I don't have a dedicated track day car, so would be driving my 328, and so my main concern is wear and tear. What is the wear like on brakes and tires? How likely is it that I'll need to replace either or both after the track day? Brake pads were replaced 2-3 months ago and I haven't done much driving since then. Tires are 18" Dunlop Direzza's with plenty of thread left. What about oil consumption? Do I need to bring extra oil with me to top up during the day? Will I need an oil change done afterwards? Do I need to worry about brake and transmission fluids? I know all this depends on driving style, but lets just say I won't be trying to break any speed records And lastly, what about insurance? I guess standard car insurance doesn't cover track days? What are my options here? Any help is much appreciated. Cheers

How old is your XBox? Microsoft has extended warranty to additional 3 years for RRoD problems. I have had my one fail after the 1 year warranty period and still had it replaced by MS (this was back in 2008). Downside was that it had to be shipped to US and had to wait for the replacement one - took about 3 weeks all together. And DVD drive in the one I was sent was very noisy...still is - probably because it was not brand new unit. But that's life. Couldn't really be bothered arguing with them and waiting another 3 weeks to get another replacement.

Got mine today. Lookin' pretty good

^ That is a nice car, but costs more than what I was planning to spend. I've decided to keep my E46 for the time being, but will be on the look out for a 130 / 135 in the future once the prices drop further. 2l engine just doesn't do it for me

E46 coupe - folding mirrors - how do these work?

No such button, so I guess they can't be folded, even though from outside they look like they should be able to move. Oh well. Thanks Glenn. -
E46 coupe - folding mirrors - how do these work?
simke replied to simke's topic in Electrical system
Auto tilt is working, no problem with that (except that it doesn't return the mirror to the exact position that it was before) - what I'm really trying to find out is the folding of mirrors - i.e. when you park your car you fold the mirrors so they don't stick out - this is what I haven't figured out how to do in my E46. -
So far (and its been a while since I've had this car now) I haven't figured out how to get mirrors to fold. Is this something that is done automatically but only if its been programmed as part of the key functions? Also when reversing and when passenger side mirror tilts downwards, after going back up it seems to go to a pre-defined position, and not to the position it was before tilting - which is pretty annoying. Is this again something that is defined as part of the key memory? Cheers

Sweet, made my order for m stripes

Yep they are both auto. I guess it just comes down to me not really being happy with going from 2.8 to 2l engine. So I guess I'll keep looking, might have a look at some GTIs:)

Ok so just been to JCBMW and they've given me the car to test drive overnight. So its a 118i (2l engine I suppose?) 17" wheels Full leather interior, sports seats (not electric tho) 6 speed tiptronic 84k on the clock overall very good condition 24 month warranty and servicing So far I have liked the handling, the car doesn't feel small, and engine is actually good for what it is, however it does miss the punch of the 2.8 unit in my e46. They gave me an estimate of around 15~16k for my car, will give me a more accurate figure tomorrow (I've left it there overnight). I guess this is reasonable given it is a 10 year old car with 145k on the clock, however I think it is worth more than that (biased obviously:)), since it has been extremely well looked after by me in the last 3 years, with close to $10k spent on maintenance and parts replacement. Reasons for - newer car - less k's on the clock - more economical - interior is actually quite good with sports leather seats - it does go quite nicely Reasons against - In terms of power doesn't come close to my E46, and this is a BIG minus (obviously can't expect much from a 2l engine) - doesn't feel as stiff as e46, but I do like the feel e46 has - based on their current valuation estimate of my car I don't think its a good deal $$ wise. So all in all I will give it another good test drive tonight, but I think I will give this one a miss (unless they do me a deal something like my car + $5k cash, I'd be happy with that ).

135 coupe would be ideal, but they do cost a bit more $$

I'm thinking about swapping my E46 for maybe something like this: Visit My Website I still need to take one for a test drive, although my guess is that it probably won't not be as much fun to drive as my current car. Its come to a point where I have to decide whether I go for something newer, or keep throwing money on E46. Other important thing is how much could I get for my car, since I've spent nearly $10k on maintenance and new parts during the last 2.5 years that I've had it. I'd like to hear your experiences with 1 series. Cheers

Need: Hopefully nothing for a while, spent almost 4k on servicing and new tires in the last couple of months Want: Repair curbing and repaint 2 wheels (2 already done), tint windows (doing it soon) and a full respray (won't be happening soon, imagine it won't be cheap).

The Belgrade Phantom - movie based on true story from 1979, when a guy steals Porsche 911 Targa (only one in the country at the time I believe) and torments police for 10 nights who are unable to catch him. Something like that was a real shock to the communist regime at the time. During the movie there are interviews with driver's friends, police inspectors who were involved, etc. Good movie for a rainy night, you can find versions with English subtitles on Google. Just found out that it was shown here back in march as part of a movie festival. Trailer

Yep NZ new, and I guess my cause was helped by the fact that I had no mods, all stock standard.

Thats what happened to my one, however BMW NZ have kindly sorted that out for me.

Chancery car valet, my mate owns it, their service is very good. Might be a bit more expensive than $30 though.

Bump. Closes on tuesday if anyone is interested.

Funnily enough, few weeks back when it was a bit wet after raining my left rear lost traction just after those traffic lights. Almost brand new tires and I was not doing more than 40 due to traffic anyway. Gave me a bit of a fright when the back started sliding sideways. There was another car next to me as well. As someone mentioned it is a route used heavily by trucks, so possibly some diesel / oil on the road.
