I'm keeping this one quite clean and original. Its not that mint.. Paint has been spray canned at places at attempts to repair rust so would need a full respray some point. Need to fix the shimmy first!

I've decided that I want an old car to tinker with and play around without getting all messy with electronics and I didn't want to go with an e30 because they're so common so I found this little e21. Its an 1981 316 coupe with a 4 speed manual box. One cool feature is the open top roof, such great for crusing along in summer! As about all the e21's have, shimmy at around 70-80km/h and above apparently getting poly bushings for the control arms would work, anyone here know where I could get some or get some made? Here is a picture: Will take more when I have more time!

After sitting in this car, I want an e30 to toy around with!

Hey guys, I'm just trying to fix up my e36 again but i've come across a problem.. The car was fitted with an factory alarm system and an immobiliser but I don't have the remote anymore because it was stolen, Was wondering if its possible to bypass it so I can at least start the car? Also if its possible to just buy a remote and I can sync it to the factory system? Cheers Yongxi

ahh thanks for that, I ended up going to VTNZ and ask what to do and they suggested exactly what you said and will be getting new plates this week and drivable to places to get a WOF and a rego!

Hmm but to get a warrant, wouldn't you needed a number plate?

Update: Car has been found at someones property, probably that place attracted police's attention and I have it in my garage now. Damage to it isn't significant! Wheels are gone obviously, a dent to the underside of the front left sideskirt (metal) dent on the bonnet from them trying to put a larger battery in and slamming the hood down.. Scratches all over the place and rear seats pulled out.. They took my gear knob and tried to take my steering wheel but they threaded the bolt (momo wheel) so they couldnt get it off. Took my stereo, speakers and thats about it... On the plus side, I have a tool box and a lot of tools that was already inside the car and also 2 photo frames and a 21st birthday card. Oh and also 3 CD holders full of Jazz music hahahaha! EDIT: anyone know about how to register a car again? The plates got taken off so I have to get new ones.. though wouldn't I need a WOF to register a car again? but I can't drive it to a WOF place due no plates and also wouldn't a WOF require a numberplate?

I love it as is! must be so nice cruising around in the sun in it! Drove dad's 325Ci while I was looking for a car and I gotta say, on a nice summers day, nothing beats having the top down!

I totally agree with the power/weight ratio affecting the fuel economy. My old 318iS manual got about 600-650km's per tank of 65L and the 330i now gets about 700km/65L in town and about 750-800km/65L on open road trips!

Yep got them from trademe. and from time to time I use them if I need to help dad. I just like the look of them, its not like I go racing around anyway so the aero dynamic factor doesn't really bother me much.

Or you could order a sheet of vinyl tint film off ebay for 20 bucks, you can take them off whenever you want too!

Nope, those are just a face-lift version of the e36, I upgraded mine from non face-lift to face-lift in my e36
