I would wait about a year until they are sitting around the 20-50kms mark and price should be more around $40-50k

Also wondering if people had any opinions on roadside rescue services such as AA. Any recommendations?
-
Do I need to actually go to taihape or take a right onto spooners hill road and back up to waiouru? Is it better to go left to ohakune and up through via national park or straight up desert road (never been there) Ideally would probably want to stop in taupo but not crucial

Thanks for the tips. I was really thinking if it was worth going around the coast from opotiki to gisborne but guess i'll just shoot straight down. Will definitely stay in napier rather than hastings. Now the biggest worry is the fact im running non runflats and no spare wheel..

thinking about doing a short 4-5 day trip around the east coast of the north island over the xmas break. Auckland to tauranga, whakatane, opotiki, gisborne, napier, back up to taupo then hamilton and back. Any suggestions on places to stay/visit or alternative/better routes? Have been to Tauranga plenty of times and as far down as Taupo. Not sure if I want to go any more further south than hastings at this stage.

couldnt you buy an engine for 10k and save yourself the hassle?

got a set of style 441M for sale if he wants something that has a slightly lower offset compared to stock but will fit much nicer.
-
Dont need to sell the 318 to do that. And the M135i is already plenty for me already as it is with a stage 1 tune and M Performance exhaust its all good as it is. Just had a few thousand dollars thrown at it for maintenance. Next items on the list would be to replace the charge, boost and intake pipes but thats about it really.
-
just wondering, why? they are so plain/boring, everyone has them and the offset/fitment is pretty poor on the 135i even though it is the factory stock wheel.

Shes got her own F20 Absolutely right Dave. Not a huge amount of gain except in certain very specific situations and environments but a huge loss in every other respect. The E46 M3 is a no from me now. prices have gone way too high for the good ones and the cheap ones are just ticking bombs especially with the subframe issue. Also its slightly too old and familar to me now after so many E46's that Ive owned even though you cant really compare it to the full fledged M. The V8 is just very tempting especially at the current prices. Yep, JCW Mini and the E46 clubsport were both sold in order to make room for the M135i which was supposed to fulfil both duties as DD and fun car (which it has very very well)

do you have plans to do a 5 lug conversion on it or keep it 4x100?

With prices dropping on the E9x M3's I toyed with the idea of owning one.. I currently have my F20 M135i for everything and also a E36 318ti for runabout if I feel like it. If I were to change to the M3 that would mean bye bye to the F20 and probably means I will rely on the 318i for most of the work daily drive and M3 will be for weekends and long trips. Not too worried about maintenance costs etc but thinking is it worth to sacrifice the comfort and overall much newer platform of the F20 solely for a "better" weekend driver? The F20 is awesome and it is suitable for everything and fits my lifestyle quite well as it is. Someone please tell me I should stop looking before I move on to BMW #28 or whatever it is..

yea thats not the best one but "needs to sell" so might be worth a look for the right price but yea. heaps to choose from.

If you are already familiar with BMW's in general (which I believe you are) then just look for the tidiest example of any model you can find whether it is a 318i or a 330i/ci (probably a bit hard to find a nice one for 4k). My pick would be a facelift sedan 320i which has the M54B22 2.2L 6 cylinder engine if you could find one which has a good balance of power, reliability and good fuel economy. Alternatively, go for something like the 318ti that I picked up for sub 1500 and spend a few hundred on it to tidy up and you got yourself a solid daily that is cheap to run and to fix

perfect just what i needed. time to do some shopping carting

got a squeaky left shock absorber and a clicking/clunking noise same side. suspect some kind of joint/bushing thats perished. Basically planning to replace the shocks both sides and rtab bushes. thinking what else i need to look at in terms of rubber bushing type of parts mainly. not looking to replace everything obviously..

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partgrp?id=CG82-EUR-07-1998-E36-BMW-318ti&mg=33 trying to put together a list of parts needed to do an upgrade on the suspension on the E36 compact and would appreciate any advise thanks

a tidy one for 12k can be found locally if you look. The main advantage is the keyless stop/start and entry/lock which I think is very convenient. also the engine is awesome with a small turbo its plenty powerful unlike the e87 116i versions which are slow and heavy. but if you can find a tidy well maintained 4cyl e87 for a bargain I dont see a problem, its basically just another e36/e46 318i/320i with heaps of spare parts everywhere now.
-
https://www.trademe.co.nz/1803587018 this is basically the same spec that we got which was the sport model, CiC iDrive with widescreen display and the bigger dash display and also steering wheel controls. It was a bit cheaper than this one for sale also.

take a look at the 2012+ F20 116i for a very economical and newish hatchback, expect to spend about 10-15k depending on kms and spec.
