Anyone have a recommendation for someone to value the car or damage assessment?

Gabe - We are talking about third party ONLY. not comprehensive. Comprehensive cover aka full cover will cover agreed or market value depending on the insurance company. In my case, I have third party only and normally its just tough luck but AA will cover upto $4000 if the total repair quote comes under this amount but if more then the car will be written off. I just spoke with them and they said that I can get my own assessment done and make a claim. I wanted to check if I can withdraw the claim if they want to write it off so I can get the car back and part it out myself and the lady seemed to think its possible to withdraw claims but Im not 100% confident. Will call again and ask but at this point I am thinking whether to take the car back from the tow yard or not.

Would appreciate if anyone has something to add regarding best solution out of third party vs uninsured driver claims. I think i will probably take the car back and settle with the guy either in court or privately. He wont be able to pay off in full so will most likely be installments. what to do with the car is a different matter. Dont wana give it away to the insurance company.

Reading the aa policy it says they will pay out $4000 against damage from uninsured party but i see a problem in the wording. They will pay upto $4000 of repairs if safe to do so. Otherwise they will pay out $4000 but keep the car in which case that doesnt work for me my wheels are worth that much. And i dont think they will give me $4000 and my car too.. damn.

I think you would be fine with 225/235 40 18 for the front and 255 35 18 rear. I was running 18x8.5 et22 with 235 40 18 square on my e46 and they didnt stick out

I think third party insurance should be lumped together with car rego. I wouldnt mind paying more than $80 a year for rego which makes it way too easy for people to put cars on the road.

Remember to buy full cover insurance guys! We only had 3rd party cover with AA insurance. My dads car (whilst driven by my gf with my parents) was hit by a young kid with his 1 month old E90 320i starting his new job and no insurance. My old man in the photo clearly not too happy.. Luckily no one was hurt. Now I gotta see what to do with the car

I am all about sharing experiences and information being available so others can make an educated decision. The internet and forums, twitter, facebook, whatever makes it easy to point fingers but also to praise and give commends. I personally think that NZ post has come a long way since kind of dying they have revived their business with youshop. I mean in Auckland they are literally rolling out those buggy carts to deliver mail. bloody heck!! I think youshop is perfect for small low value items that you dont need urgently. Ship it with the US free shipping to your youshop box, consolidate it all together and bring it to NZ all together at a low rate. Trying to use this service like Fedex or DHL is like trying to get M3 performance out of a 318i and crying why wont it go faster.

I am working in logistics and dealing with freight forwarders on a daily basis and whilst I do agree with some of your comments, I still think that the OP's post is useless because he is taking his 1 experience and telling people "do not use youshop". Freight forwarding in itself when looking at it as a one dimensional operation to move an object from one place to another, is a simple thing. Nothing special. But as a whole operation on a global scale it is certainly not one dimensional nor simple. Sure, the level of service you get may vary depending on the company and level of training and a bunch of other factors. In some cases, it is just a simple thing such as lack of contact information that delays parcels because freight companies dont have a contact number or email to call and ask for payment of tax/gst whatever until you call in with a tracking number. This is because whoever has shipped it has not put in your details in full or you didnt provide it in the first instance. Like I said, there are way too many factors involved that makes or breaks a freight forwarding experience at the consumer level and one story (with hardly any relevant details) doesnt do anything to deter me from using or considering using youshop again. Sure, if more people chime in and have more to say then maybe others who read this can make their own judgement but then again you gotta remember, people jump onto forums and write anything bad or negative based on one experience but rarely do they praise the good and make recommendations in the same caliber.

the interior on the blue one is nice, have seen it in real life and its special indeed. The black one would have been nice too but the welds on the subframe cracks look weak. the lowered grey one I think looks nice to me but also dont like the lowering on it. factory height is best.

These kinds of posts are pointless because each case is special and it certainly isnt going to be enough to deter anyone to use it. Just use with caution and know what to expect. I personally had a bad experience with youshop as they (without my knowledge or approval) combined two shipments from the same supplier that I ordered on two separate days one for myself one for a friend and they taxed me on the total value despite both orders being under threshhold if calculated individually. On the flipside, I know another who has saved hundreds of dollars on multiple small shipments costing only $10 to land with youshop rather than the usual $40-50 on UPS etc. Would I use youshop again? yes, I would. But it would totally depend on the value of goods, supplier, urgency, and other factor before I decide so.

The key remote lock/unlock has stopped working and doing the re-initialize combination makes the car beep (sounds like an aftermarket alarm type of sound) but doesnt lock and unlock the doors to complete the set up. Cant get it to work no matter what I try. Anyone have any idea on alternative suggestions? Im thinking if it has something to do with possibly an aftermarket alarm being installed at some point and removed (not properly)? Dont know much about these things.. any help appreciated.. Drivers door lock barrel is non-existent so locking and unlocking the door via the boot which is a bit of a pain..

Sorry what I meant was - for the team at trademe and anyone not bmw minded, the term E46 is irrelevant. We all know what E46 but the chances of other "normal" people knowing this is slim to none. Trademe doesnt exactly have the best categorizing platform for car models/chassis and thus if you search with keywords you are bound to miss out on auctions where people have unknowingly missed out on key, keywords. The only way is to search by category with a broad search criteria and weed through it manually but then there are people who list mag wheels in "BMW - OTHER" rather than the more typical "Alloy wheels" section (ask me why I know this lol)
