Here is a link to a description on diffs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_slip_differential The ratio is the gearing from input to output. 2.95:1 will mean fewer revolutions for a given speed than a 3.76:1 the higher ratio will give quicker acceleration, but a lower top speed, and vice versa.
  3. Happy Birthday. I hope you get a Honda.
  4. New Zealand will let you do pretty much anything to your car, as long as it gets certified by an inspector. So, as long as it has been done properly, you shouldn't have too much problem.
  5. Sounds like you need a highly illegal jammer. Or, you could try being observant and driving with your eyes open. A radar detector won't help you enough to warrant the purchase of one. Drive closer to the speed limit.
  6. Have a look around the LTSA website. http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/importing/ Do you have any idea of where you are moving too? It may be good to talk to one of the local importers about getting it from the UK for you. Here is the frontal impact page for Porsche from the website. frontal_impact_compliance_porsche_20021018.pdf

Get yourself a Swiss ball to sit on. Your back will be fine in no time.
  8. Don't buy a radar detector. How much money have they saved you? Sounds like a few Excesses have been spent already and no speeding tickets avoided either, I bet. Then no-one will feel the need to break in, in the future. Bad Luck too. Always pisses you off that people feel the need to smash up your stuff.
  9. 8 minutes 34 seconds on hard tyres, full of fuel, jacked up high and geared to a maximum of 275kph. BMW has written another chapter in motor sport history on the legendary Nordschleife at the Nürburgring. Today, Saturday, a modern Formula 1 vehicle was driven round the 20.8 kilometre race track for the first time in 31 years in front of a crowd numbering 45,000 BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Nick Heidfeld was extremely enthusiastic after three laps in the F1.06: “This drive was simply incredible. I thought it would be great to drive on the Nordschleife before I started out. But it was even better than I had expected. This racing track is the best in the world. I’d really like to have emptied the tank. It was a very special moment when I left the grand prix circuit in the direction of the Nordschleife. I was really shaken up at the Bergwerk section and on the Döttinger Höhe. I’ll never forget today as long as I live. Another particularly special experience has now joined the many fantastic childhood memories and racing successes.†BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen said: “We wanted to give fans a special treat. And I believe we have done this with the entire BMW motor sport programme. The BMW M3 GTR that Olaf Manthey presented today was welcomed like an old friend. The car is actually much too athletic for the museum. Naturally, the high point was Nick’s drive with the F1.06. We had implored him to be careful. The day was a homage to the fans and to this unique circuit in the world of racing. For once, the lap times were a secondary consideration.†Despite unusually hard demonstration tyres and short transmission ratio, Heidfeld notched up a top speed of 275 km/h on the long straight called the “Döttinger Höheâ€. The second lap was his fastest lap and took 8:34 minutes. A camera car took shots of the 29-year-old on some sections of all three laps and Heidfeld slowed down for the photo calls. The F1.06 was adjusted for maximum ground clearance to drive on this uneven traditional circuit – four centimetres at the front axle, eight centimetres at the rear axle. No other modifications were carried out on the vehicle. One special measure was necessary for wireless communication. Team Manager Beat Zehnder travelled with the camera helicopter in order to secure the radio link over the entire distance instead of sitting on the pit wall as usual. As far as BMW is concerned, the Nürburgring is rather like a second home, not simply because of numerous past successes – including 18 overall victories at 24 hour races and a one-two Formula 1 win. BMW Motorsport is also the partner for the VLN endurance championship at the Nürburgring, with one of the races being held today (Saturday). BMW Driver Training, BMW Ring Taxis, the BMW Performance Centre and a permanent racing-car exhibition in the “Erlebniswelt†leisure park are fixed institutions at the Eifel circuit. In addition to the BMW Sauber F1 Team with Heidfeld and test driver Sebastian Vettel and the BMW M3 GTR, the BMW works drivers from the World Touring Car Championship (FIA WTCC) guaranteed lots of exciting action , as well as talking to fans and signing autograph books. Two-times world champion Andy Priaulx and Jörg Müller also played taxi driver on the Nordschleife, as did Augusto Farfus. The BMW motor-sport fleet was out in force on the legendary circuit. There was Formula 1 and the BMW M3 GTR, the BMW 320si WTCC to the BMW Z4 M Coupé. Even the smallest of all BMW racing cars put in an appearance: In the morning, Heidfeld took the inspection lap in the Formula BMW packing 140 hp.
  10. Awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkS0_wz_-IU
  11. No Kerry, you need a 327 with a 6-71 blower in a 1 series. That'd be better.
  12. Allan Dippie taking Barry's new 599GTB for a strop around Ruapuna in the wet. A bit of a change from his MiG. Can you say snap oversteer? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz5V4ty6xl0 Paul Kelly is also caning his Carrera C4S
  13. There are obviously advantages to having a manual 6 speed. Deb gets at least 550km on a tank of petrol around Glendowie/St Heliers. 1000rpm in 6th is 60km/h, so you can idle down Tamaki drive in top gear and still break the speed limit. In rush hour, she leaves it in first and it keeps up with traffic. But it is around $120 per fill off memory. For perspective. It is much better performance and economy than my 1.5 year old company Falcon.
  14. Call me when the test-driver position becomes available.
  15. Driving at the open road speeds, I get 9.5-10 l/100km. Around town, it can be 14-15 l/100km. Deb usually gets 11-12.5 l/100km per month, mostly round town driving. She hardly sees a motorway. Manual M60.
  16. You can make me an offer and see the best of both worlds in the 540LE. Great to see the little cars blink as you fly passed them on the open road. True, not great off the line, but never stops accelerating.
  17. zenetti has it right. 235/45/17 on 8" all round. Although they had a stagger on the rear 255/40/17 on 9".
  18. Welcome, nice car too. Take it around Ruapuna, next time the club has a day. It's perfect for that track (well, a manual gearbox would improve), but Hoonapuna is a good track for handling and horsepower.
  19. Where are you in Auckland? East, West, North, South or Central? Then we can suggest a specialist to go to. If, out East. BM Workshop on Harris Rd/Ti Rakau is good. He'll give you a quote too. Ross was excellent.

  21. Murder is just as illegal as speeding. Some illegal activities are just less morally accepted than others. If you think they should be concentrating on more real crime. Get off your arse and join the police force.
  22. But could they Copyright a plate that is a direct copy of an existing design? i.e. the Genuine and original Europlates. Yes, looking through the PP website, it appears that they manage the register of PP in NZ. And they obviously subcontract the manufacture of them.
  23. Take it to BMW for their $139 check and see what they say. I'd go for the $20k mark too.
  24. No, they won't manufacture a plate unless you own it here in NZ. Hence the form to fill out. Ours is a personlised plate, and we are the owners of it. But it is an original plate (black on white), so could I get it re-manufactured as a Europlate, was my question. Or in your case, get TI2003 as a Europlate (it is registered to your car). Rather than pay the extortionate $400 (or whatever PP want) for me to upgrade my existing PP to a PP Europlate. Yes, the font was changed to be easier to read via camera software. Ah, Denny (the legal god), you already had a legal Europlate. Quoted by whom?
