  1. That was going to be my suggestion too. I lived in Oz for 4 years and lived off the, "oh, I'm here on business" (which wasn't untrue) as I came home every couple of months at least. I just started counting from there again. I never owned a car and was always driving a company car or rental. Harder to do, in a car registered in your own name. Kind of points to permanence. Hold off as long as possible, unless you need it for insurance purposes.
  2. There is something on at Taupo over the long week-end. I sent Andrew an e-mail about it.
  3. So, outside of sounding nicer. Did you dyno before and after?
  4. Well done. Great car. S50 3litre, I assume.
  5. The heater pump (LHS near firewall) was leaking in the 540. Changed it and the problem was gone. Cheap enough to buy a new one and easy for a non-mechanical person like me to replace. DCH Motorsport in Sockburn or Graeme Clyde's, GAC something, off memory.
  6. There is a pretty good write up of Colin's race car in this months Autocar. 0-100 in 8.85 seconds. Not bad considering a new VW Golf TSi (the supercharged/turbocharged 1.4) can do it only a few tenths faster and it's 18 years old.
  7. That's awesome. Group B, come on down. How much? Good to see someone has taken over from Renault on building an insane hatch. 4WD?
  8. Navman N40i is the best value for money IMO.
  9. Very nice. You've obviously put a lot of effort in. I'll be keen to see it in the flesh.

  11. Denny is correct. Outside of the E30 M3, the E30 320iS was the 2nd best E30. It was a de-stroked S14 and running gear fitted into the E30 with Motorsport spoilers. LHD only. As rare as rocking horse sh*t.
  12. No, it's Barry's one from Dunedin. The is another one down the road from me in Kohi too RED on the plate. 42 below director.
  13. Haha, that's pretty funny. Check this one out. http://www.tysknews.com/Depts/2nd_Amend/cr...te_plummets.htm
  14. 335i or M5 for me. Nothing really special to see on the M5. Hence the turbo for me.
  15. There is no definitive answer to that question. If it has electrolyte in it, remove the battery and charge it for 48 hours, test the open cell voltage. It should be 13.2VDC minimum. Closer to 14VDC in reality. Fit it to the car, crank it over and see if it actually has capacity or whether a surface charge is present only. Drive car a reasonable distance and see if it starts in the morning. If it does, you're in luck.
  16. CTRL+F5, refresh not from cache
  17. In my opinion Bruce is up there with John Britten and Burt Munro as Kiwi innovators, being able to design, prototype and manufacture leading edge technology. Colin Chapman's of their relevant fields. McLaren was more successful as a Can-am constructor than F1.
  18. Talk to Bumpstop 325. Tim has a 335, but the motor came from a 7 series.
  19. I'm going with Bruce as I've never heard of Bob Wallace either. Regardless of whether the Supercar (in the road sense of the word) scene or not. I think you'll find that Denny Hulme and a few others will deny that Bruce did better dead than alive.
  20. United Bimmer and http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/BMW540iLE/ The 2nd is escpecially useful to me as it is solely about the 70 cars made. United Bimmer is fine, but the Americans are loony.
  21. AGM, absorbed glass mat A type of VRLA, valve regulated lead-acid battery. Yes, I would expect about 14.1V from your alternator. Being 2.35V per cell. Another reason that car batteries don't last.
  22. Jock, is the battery not holding charge? or is it not charging? Take the battery out and charge it on a bench with a DECENT rectifier for 24 hours. Open cell string voltage should be at least 13.2VDC. 6 months old, doesn't mean you haven't killed it through neglect. Has it been used daily for 6 months, or just sitting in the garage self-discharging for this period of time? Car batteries are poorly designed (compared to a high quality AGM) have have a expected life of 3-5 years in perfect conditions.
  23. Well done Andrew. If I'd known you were competing, I've have made the effort to show up. Where is the in car footage?
  24. BP Ultimate in the 540 11-12l/100km around town
  25. I'm with Gus and Ken. It's what my parents called me. High Tower, what do you have in common with the Eiffel tower? Neither of you can spell?
