  1. I'm still in support of the revaluation of all these occupations. However, there have still been a number of things raised by the media, that have not been covered here. Free meals. So assuming $10 per day worth of free food, 5 days a week. That is a benefit of $2600 (tax free), so to earn this you'd add another $4,250 to your salary. No overtime, so. Neither do I. Doctors can earn more overseas...and? So can I, i get offers to go offshore regularly that are worth more than I earn here. I stay because, I have worked offshore and value the lifestyle I have in NZ. You can't compare a 40,000 GBP salary to $120,000 NZD. There is no linear relationship. Someone on $60,000 NZD is better off here than earning 40,000 GBP in London. Want to earn more and have a stress free life? Call Oceana gold in Otago, they will give you $40 per hour to drive a truck above ground, plus overtime. Want even more, get a job at any mine in Australia. Sorry to hear your daughter is an Accountant Glenn. I'm sure she could have picked a career that added value to our economy (or lifestyle). KPMG aren't that good to work for globally. PwC are miles better at looking after there staff. I bet you're glad she's not a laywer though.
  2. For a 40 hour week, $48k straight out of Uni (when you still no nothing in essence) is pretty good money. You didn't list the 12 weeks holiday (or whatever that may be) as every week of leave equates to a 2% payrise However, I would expect that that should rise rapidly from there on in. I do believe they are undervalued. Auckland's Starship hospital have excellent staff and I have needed to visit there with my daughter 2 or 3 times. You can't really complain about the student loan debt. It's not as if it just appeared and you didn't know what you were getting yourself into. If you picked being a Doctor as a career to get rich, maybe you need to have another think. To live a good lifestyle, further down the road. I'd say you're sweet. Look at the rich-list for any country, they are either old money or Engineers or Entrepeneurs. My opinion would be that chosing to be a Doctor is driven more from the desire to do something good and falls along with Police, Nurses, Ambulance staff, and Fire Fighters. And out of those careers, I would pick the last. FYI and first year Fireman will get $55k working 2 fourteen hours days, then 2 ten hour nights and then having 4 days off. However, they could die on any day. Good luck with the strike.
  3. I don't. I have a life (and no trademe account). But I do agree with the sentiment on the trademe links.
  4. Good to see you getting out and about & enjoying it.

    Well I never

I saw a good one today Allan. Driving down Tamaki Drive, I passed a driving school car. The instructor who was driving, was busily texting away. "For everything else, there's Visa"
  6. Gee, without the wife and daughter, I could have a twin-turbo 850CSi as a daily driver.
  7. It's the other way round. The Z8 looks like a 507.
  8. Thanks for that suggestion Ollie. I got the local dive shop from $10 to $6.50 per kilo of lead. We're also tossing up Iron sand, that would be good too.
  9. Ok, I need to add weight to 20 flakes of 45mm fire hose. I need to add 4-5kg to each hose. Ideally I would like to get a supply of lead shot (still available?). It has been suggested that I could use dive weights. I would prefer to get the weight inside the hose too, as we are endeavouring to use them for the event over the next 3 years. As these hoses are being used as the baton in the Firefighters Skytower climb, I'd prefer not to have great big weights in one location, as it could become quite a hazard as it is passed from one firefighter to the next. Any suggestions as to what I could use and where I can get it from. 80-100kg of weight needed. Thanks Cain
  10. I'm with the AA, as I've been a member since I got my licence, their discounts are great and they have been no problem when I've had to make a claim. Great looking car. I thought you had an Isetta as you said the smallest production BMW. What tyres are those? Great looking tread pattern on them.
  11. Great photos. A real selection showed up.
  12. If that was a 220vac 3 phase box, it is an American designed network. Ours are 415vac 3 phase. Try shorting a battery for fun! Can turn a spanner into flying shrapnel in an instant.
  13. I have no idea how removing GST from anything will help the price of fuel. Good luck with that crusade though.
  14. Nice. I'm sure you'll have fun driving that through the snow in the Octagon.
  15. Can someone explain why Petrol went up 8 cents and diesel went up 18 cents? Isn't diesel less refined?
  16. No, it is a CSi. It has all the M running gear and the 6 speed manual. Outside of the rear axle/diff (which is the 8) it has EDC, self-levelling and an M62. That red leather on the roof is cool.
  17. They're great. I've just ordered a Volkswagen. Good cars, 911 is a flawed design, but I'd still own one. To qualify that, I'd own a Maserati too.

    027 Billion

Yes, he lives around Glendowie, I assume. I see it a fair bit. Really doesn't do much for the stereotype on Ferrari drivers
  19. Yes, that is Gerry's old car (another one). It is the best 8 series in the New Zealand by a country mile. He's selling it for a very fair price in my opinion.
  20. Old, but always worth watching.
  21. I'm with Penry. It's about getting bang for my buck. If I like the car, I will still drive it. I'm over $130 to fill either of my 2 larger cars. Ultimately, if I'm looking to save money on fuel, I'll buy a smaller car as well. I need to drive a car every day in my job (catching public transport won't work), so most of my fuel is paid for. I spend more than $9000 in my company car alone (excluding the rental cars that I drive 1-2 weeks per month) or the other 2 cars in the garage. I have ordered a VW diesel as my next company car, as it is a better car than the Territory from a safety, fuel efficiency and luxury/specification aspects (plus it handles better). Ultimately, the savings in fuel have been spent on leasing a better car. So it saves no money at all. I would do the same if it were my money. Good to see Glenn's taxi drive/soothsayer prediction is keeping fuel prices in line with last century (taking inflation into account)
  22. Nice. It'd be a bit of fun. Well done on grabbing a manual.
