IIRC obtaining INPA as anything but a BMW service centre is against EULA, this illegal? Certainly shouldnt be paying for it.

yeah my old Jap import E36 has the Jatco jerk when i purchased it. Eventually it got so bad that the trans started slipping in all gears and the jerk got longer and harsher. I converted to manual. This was with less than 80,000km on the clock.

i could never get ADS working over USB adapter, had to buy an ancient Dell laptop off Trademe to get a dedicated serial port.

Keep in mind the ADS interface is well.... dated, and so is the DIS software. INPA is better, but not as powerful. Neither are really as good imo as decent OBD2 software. Unless you specifically need it for diagnostics, i wouldnt even bother.

is the hand brake electrically operated on these? Can probably connect up a jump pack if you can get in the boot or bonnet, but expect the alarm to go off and you still wont be able to unlock the steering. Not sure about putting the car in neutral without a key.

Thanks for the photos, interesting to see as i dont think ive ever actually seen under the valve covers of a valvetronic engine. Could you see anywhere on the old headgasket where it might have been leaking?

Be interesting to see the datacard, do you know what the old rego is (and care to share)?

Dont go with the 320i, they have a terrible rep for reliability. Go with at least a 323i or 325i as the sixes are better engines.

I presume if its anything like Merc, once the car is in your name you should be able to order a key direct from BMW (pre-cut and coded)? If its abandoned, i guess its deregistered too?

Christchurch =/= Wellington If you want a 3 bedroom house, with a big garage, in a decent outer suburb, be prepared to pay through the nose for it. We werent able to compete even with a sizable deposit and looking at houses for $400k. They all sold for thousands over asking/rv and someone prepared to take the risk of unconditional would snipe it out from under you. A couple of years ago we would've been fine, but now its gone to hell. I'd take the CHCH market any day.

That bodykit is vile. I'd also be interested to know how many minutes that RB20 gearbox lasts behind that engine.
