  1. In my opinion, The m52 conversion would be a very nice transplant for an e30, the m52b28 is 193bhp and about 20kgs lighter than the 192bhp m50b25, the 52 however is vanos equipt which improves the torque curve quite dramatically providing better power delivery, there is some debate however in high reving situations such as a race car that the cast block of the M50 is more durable and vanos is a problem you don't need. Of course an s50/52 would be a better swap as suggested in the article but firstly find one in NZ and then pay for it, the M52 is a much more feesable swap. As for the chassis the e30 can be made to be a sensationally handling little car likewise the 36 I am not sure why we would be debating this? At the end of the day an e30 can be modified to handle pretty much anything most drivers are capable of on public roads, to really discover any shortcommings in the e30 chassis I would imagine that the race track would be where this is apparent, and then of course you have to remember that the car and design is at least 16 years old (mine is 24 years old). I am happy to help with any info on the m52 swap as the same principles apply to the m50 it would be great to see this conversion done. I also have a M52b28 in an e46 and am pretty satisfied with the performance in a heavy car. Oh and as the article says don't expect a fast car with a 2.5 conversion, I'll have to disagree with this, mine is fast enough to scare the shite out of me sometimes - or is that the poor driving - i'm not sure.
  2. Gidday Shaun, just to help out in case you are working on it now, I am sure that the big bush that the lever sits in needs to be turned with a screwdriver or the like, it fits a bit like a radiator cap does if you can picture that, so has a couple of tabs that lock it in place. Spin it round to the right location and it should simply pull out from the top, disconnect the lever from the selector arm first. Hope this helps. Jonty
  3. [url="http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=96985867"] This is my old car, my parents own it now I can vouch that it is in sharp condition, and goes very well, well looked after. At $10k it is great buying. Give me a shout if you have any questions.
  4. my pants are down $12000.00 anyone??
  5. Gidday, I am after an external air temp sensor for an e46 328i sedan, it sits in under the passenger side front wing, it would be helpful if I could also find the plastic guard liner that it is mounted on also. anyone wrecking a 46 - Brent?? no air con without it.
  6. Thnks Guys for all your offers, I have one sorted now cheers
  7. Thanks Guys for all the offers I will get in touch in the next day or two, Stephen yeah it is for the race car, thought I better tidy it up a bit for sale. Cheers Andrew
  8. After a rear bumper for a pre facelift any condition considered. cheers Jonty
  9. Gidday MrHamWallet, running a 4.1 diff awesome around manfield took 2 seconds off lap times straight out of the box, no slipper, fully locked as for circut only, works brilliantly slipper would be nice but not really necessary for race car. was running a 3.64 but never got into 5th, 1st is a bit useless but 2nd gear starts still spin the wheels and 3rd and 4th around most corners works out great. I am prepared to negotiate the sale price to anyone interested for a cash quick sale (a little bit) and will consider 2002 or manual 325 e30 trades.
  10. Bump, anyone interested in this, all reasonable offers considered, its gotta go before I change my mind and the wife kicks my ass.

This car is awesome fun, doing mid 1:23's at Manfeild with a novice driver, the car has heaps more potential, I have not had it dyno tuned yet but conservative estimate at about 220BHP with link etc. Still things to improve on with this car if you wanted but is great like it is. This has cost me Thousands more than asking price to build and has been tested well, ultra reliable and very quick. New Baby and other interests force sale. 12. They will fit the e30 with some mods, pretty sure the top mounts are different configuration, and of course you will need e36 hubs to go on them, that then means five stud wheels, also castor will be buggard so you will need eccentric control arm bushings and e36 control arms I think, possible but not ideal, if you want to lower the e30 more than the standard lowering kits have your strut inserts shortened and get some springs made to suit. Cheap, effective, safe and legal.
  13. Yep no caliper mounts on the drum arms, so I will need a disc one, shafts are the same as the ones on my car were originally from a drum rear end. e30stz I will PM you. Brent I will give you a shout if I still need one. cheers.
  14. gidday folks yep took a hit in the side while facing the wrong way at manfeild last weekend, so I need a right hand side trailing arm as it is bent, oh and when the car then backed into the wall I broke the tail light so I need one of those also for a preface lift. any help is appreciated. Cheers
  15. Gidday Folks, I am after a 4.10 diff for the racer, no point havng 5 gears if you cant use them all.
  16. Gidday I used an m20 flywheel with the m50 had it lightened heaps also, no issues fitting, with e30 trans though. I had a standard 325 clutch but the pressure plate was a bit tired and it slipped like crazy so I had it rebuilt stronger with a racing clutch cost me more than the 328I you speak of so thats not a bad price. I left that gaul plate on it helps withthe spacing of the flywheel bolts not that they would foul anything but hey its there for a reason I figure.
  17. Gidday I would be dead keen on the ABS pump if the last three digits of the part number were 219? let me know and a price, cheers andrew.kelly@slingshot.co.nz
  18. I am after both front gaurds and the front valance for a coupe in good condition if any one has a wrecker, also after front and rear F/L bumper shells, any help would be appreciated. cheers
  19. xlmotorsport.co.uk does them but they are not cheap, and freight would be expensive also, sorry I don't know of anyone in NZ
  20. Couldn't agree more with Conrod re the m52b28 or the s50b30/32 if you can afford it the m50b25 is only 20 or so bhp more standard than the m20, heaps more mod potential in my opionion though than the m20, I run a link and its in a fully stripped race car with custom headers etc so I would expect it would be a little quicker than a m20 I expect to see BHP figures of 220 to 230 as it is however have not had it on the dyno yet, this is only 28 - 38 more than stock. You have the option of m3 cams etc later on and really as far as internal mods go N/A the sky is the limit, vortech supercharger is next on my list, good for an extra 80-100 bhp at 8psi no engine mods required, turbo would be pretty tight as there is stuff all room around the steering column on the right hooker you could do it though with some custom fabrication but then you have compression issues at higher boost, this isnt an arguement I will start. I guess the advantage of the m50 over m52 or s50/52 is first price $$$ second in my case non vanos, simplier to run with the link. Give me a shout if you have any questions, btw I tried the no booster brake set up, with standard 325i discs all round and just about boke my leg tring to stop the car, now have teh mk2 golf booster installed-heaps better
  21. This is awsome - kinda makes my m50 a bit of a girls car mind you this will cost you a few bob.
  22. Well i have done the m50 swap, and if you are getting someone else to do it then you will not get any change from $5k including parts and that is conservative, the swap its self is piss easy I am not a mechanic just a tinkerer and I did it myself, the getrag 260 or any box from a 6 cly e30 for that matter fits fine just rotates the box about 10 degrees, all the mounts etc come from other beemers the exhaust manifold is the tricky part if you are handy with a welder then you could fabricate your own from a tubular manifold other wise $600 buys you headers. Wiring etc is the time consuming bit and would cost a packet but again you can do this your self. I bought everything including , engine, box, link ecu, prop shaft, radiator, engine mounts, 525 sump, dip stick and pickup and after all the incidentals it has cost me over 6K and that is with no labour charge. Plus I still got money to spend, diff, brakes suspension etc once you pop you can't stop is it worth it, hell yes but I would go a s50/52 if you could find one, really make it worth your while
  23. Yep as above the vtec is a great engine and although the m42 is a goodun they are made for different things and different markets, , I would however chance a manual 325 against a tec maybe not a s2000 If it is off the line stuff you want then a diffs a good place to start, but you will never be real fast. Just put in a lsd and steer with the rear as you give the honda boys a wave out the window.
  24. Yep I need a passenger front coupe elec window motor any one got one lying around???
