I am fitting a bilstein streetline suspension kit to my car. The kit is suppose to lower a std 325i by 40mm. My car has the mtech suspension. I went fit the front shocks and springs and noticed that the new springs are 40mm shorter than the mtech ones(uncompressed) and also the diameter of the shock rod (the chrome bit) is smaller than the mtech one. My questions are: Are the mtech struts different to the std 325 ones, ie is the lower perch in a different place? Also are the shock rods a different diameter between mtech and std 325? I've got a photo here if this helps The new shock fits in the strut housing and the black part of the shock is the right length and diameter but when I put the new spring on I don't even need to compress the spring to get the top nut on. I await your expert advice!

I tried the socket/spanner method and split two 8mm sockets! Last night I took the struts around to a mates place who has a air impact gun and had them apart in no time! So I should have it all back together tonight. Thanks for the tip.

Done the rear end and having some trouble with the front (see maintanance) the rear now sits 7mm lower than the mtech suspension. :thumb: About what I was after!

Hi, I'm halfway through a suspension change (see post under performance) and have a couple of questions. I have the front struts out and have compressed the springs, but how do you get the nut off the top of the shock to get the springs off? I realise that there is a bmw special tool for this but is there another way? Also I pulled back the dust cover on the existing shocks and noticed that the thickness of the shock (chrome bit) is thicker than the new shocks I have to put in. Does this matter as the new shocks come with a new collar to thread back into the shock housing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Sweet, I'll be doing it today. I'll post some before and after pics, but I don't think you will see any difference.

Does anyone know how much lower a E30 325i sits on mtech suspension vs standard suspension? The reason I ask is that I bought a bilstein streetline suspension kit while I was in the uk and brought it back with me as I was intending to buy a E30 325 when I got home. Now the car I have bought has already got the mtech suspension in it and the shocks are a bit tired. So do I change the shocks and springs or just the shocks as I don't want it sitting any higher. The kit I bought lowers the std suspension height by -40mm. Any thoughts? Or do I just put it all in and see what height it is at?
-
Thinking of doing this on the E30 as it is cracked all over the place. Can you buy new ones? How long does it take? Also what is the best way to stop it from cracking again?

Both my old pre F/L and my F/L had this feature. Have a look at this site, there is an article under the electrical section. www.bimmerdiy.com/e30

Hi, Nice car quite similar to my one, I am after a towbar for my car and noticed this car has one that goes under the rear mtech2 kit, do you know if this a standard towbar? Do you know of any for sale? As I really don't want to cut a hole in my kit. Good luck with the sale!! Cheers

Go before show, the buzz will last longer!!

Fair enough, I'm a Mtech 2 fan but still like the Mtech 1. I'll keep an eye out for ya down this way. I'm guessing you would want a black one?

Yeah, royal blue metallic, looks kind of purple in some lights. Taking it up to Nelson this weekend, so will be the first decent drive I have had in it. Interesting to see how it goes on gas as it is a bit thirsty around town (14L/100kms) I plan to keep this for a few years, so I will be tidying it up. May get it resprayed at some stage. Here' the ass pic...

Missing head unit (coming this week), under steering column panel and has of course got the usual cracked dash...
-
Needs the front end resprayed...

This is the one that was on Trademe with the 2.8L engine. (Juzzie Wuzzies old car I think?) Goes well, still needs some tidying.

It goes without saying that you have seen this one? Pre FL sport Keep the FL 4 door Mtech!!

This one is really out of focus but you might be able to make out a bit. It say's no. 17 out of one hundred and something RHD models made. The car is close to mint ie no stone chips, no rips in seats, not even a crack in the dash, straight as. Bad bits Cracked foglights, welded/patched exhaust, seats a bit worn, boot carpet/lining a bit tired,

Some piccys, sorry about the quality as I used the CRAP Dick Smith's camera from work. Also the car was tucked into a corner so it made it a bit tricky. Enough excuses........

It's a RHD. Looked very tidy as you would expect being in Fazazz.
