  1. have you noticed the answer to every question on the SLR speed website is basically yes give me money no refunds.... i have seen people use steering quickeners but only in hotrods where they cruise around, i believe due to the ratio dropping on the way back if you double the speed you halve the feedback and correction force. those kits will be good if you want stupid lock but your e36 should have enough lock as is, you just need it faster. Stock E30 rack = 4.0 turns lock-to-lock E30 M3 rack = 3.5 turns lock-to-lock All E36 rack (except '95 M3) = 3.2 turns lock-to-lock '95 M3 rack = 3.0 turns lock-to-lock Z3 rack = 2.7 turns lock-to-lock im not sure about overall lengths, if it doesnt actually move the tie rod ends the same difference you may be fighting a losing battle. but z3 rack looks a winner, if you cant get one a m3 rack isnt far behind. long story short, easier to find a new steering rack halfway through a targa if it breaks than it is to find a new quickener.
  2. i have seen pics side by side and i actually prefer the 32s to the alpinas, as long as you have brakes big enough to fill the void. I see with the 5 stud conversion you have to use m3 front arms, im presuming they sit out a little further than standard e36 arms ? if by e30 and m52 you mean dreams and good intentions then yes. if you mean actual items then no. Im off to aussie next week for a work trip then back over for two weeks for bathurst. trying not to buy to much until im back haha. i am keeping an eye on the e30 coupe that QUBE is selling, look quite tidy but being an auto 318i isnt stupidly expensive. I have however bought the most important item needed to complete an engine conversion........
  3. also i have decided i love the look of style 32s on an e30 coupe just the small issue of a 5 stud conversion.
  4. So had a decent offer from a local guy for an e34 sump/dipstick. m50 intake and associated parts and some e30 rearend parts. looked good but yesterday had the flatmate leave the bath on which overflowed and flooded half my house. Currently have half a house with no carpet or underlay, and due to fly out to ausse in under a week. hopefully everthing is still availble when i get back and get my money back in the green.
  5. if its a good one see if you can set the country or region. often you can on dvd players. that might do it but their website seemed to think it was just a flat no.
  6. never heard of them before. its a standard band expander but shifts 0.1mhz instead of 10. should be closer to $20 in my opinion. would work but just depends what its worth to you i guess
  7. yea quite common with american units. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car...ry,+like+Europe you appear to have a CD player only. sorry
  8. is there any rust at all?

    323i e30 manual

wow gore, that might have been worth a mention in the first post GLWS
  10. Also small and medium case diffs interchange on the mounts?
  11. Cool. is the clutch pedal its own mount or is it need a complete pedal box change. little bit strange but on some very expensive builds i have seen online (hybrid) i havent seen anyone put in a floor mount pedal box, considering the effort some go to with the booster. seems an adjustable sytem would suit big brake kits better. Only other thing is will the 4cyl rev counter read off the 6cyl engine ok? seem to be no limit of questions these days haha.
  12. just looking at a few options for e30s. is there any disadvantage to starting with an e30 automatic, specifically a 318i auto im guessing the diff might have a funny ratio and the cluster have auto stuff on it but would that be the full extent of issues i would face.
  13. i have a brand new momo boss kit. $80 , not cheap but was $220 new.
  14. i have a momo one lying around, brand new but i believe it needs a little trimming of plastic bits. bit of a punt but can do it for $80 when it was $220 new. let me know
  15. love the kinds that dont know sh*t about their car but are adamant an e36 318i is worth $16k have recently seen a 1983 honda civic listed for 9K. wasnt bumped up after sold as he relisted at that price 4 times.
  16. It aint a grinder till its a 9 inch grinder. Looks good
  17. will point out hybrid is at 6666 posts, not sure what to make of that. getting very excited by the possibilities here. seems to me if i get a running e30 and an e36 donor car i can use the e30 as a daily and apart from the exhaust if i do everything right could get almost everything ready to go so the car is off the road for minimum amount of time. has anyone had any issues with Certs? seeing as its standard stuff i doubt they will want driveshaft hoops etc. possibly just want better brake pads and rotors.
  18. i try to get away but my 540 has a tv in the dash....
  19. my coolant sensor has 4 wires, when the gauge plays up the motor runs fine, when i unplugged the sensor all together while running the gauge died (went to hot and red -128'c as usual) but the motor surged a little before returning to a slightly higher idle. judging by this i would say that the one sensor has two circuits in it, one for gauge and one for DME, much like an e36 does. it then has a separate sensor in the radiator to run the fan
  20. Ads for Campbell live where he asks open ended questions to rile people up. "do you dislike the thought of being raped by an unlubricated cactus on a night out? we do, so we decided to go and talk to a local dairy about the price of milk and try to bully immigrant workers who don't speak English"
  21. seems my eyes are melting out of my head after all the reading i have been doing on this subject. seems most people who undertake this swap are generally literate which makes reading forums alot easier. So from what i have gathered if i went ahead with this swap i would go for the m52b28 single vanos. based on having more power and torque, i wouldnt go twin vanos as they tend to cost more and i dont believe the power gain is worth the rebuild cost vanos would possibly need. (similar to picking up some s52 cams for the earlier motor) The biggest thing that im not quite getting is the ecu side of things. it seem i have two options. 1. use m52 ecu but get it reflashed to exclude EWS, asc, abs(maybe), secondary o2, cats etc. 2. convert the entire loom and sensors to obd1 out of a m50b25 single vanos. seems most people go for the second but it seems much simpler and cheaper to go with the retune, am i right or missing something. The next biggest thing seems to be the exhaust which most people modify the down pipes extensively to fit around the steering, is it then really worth redoing the rest of the exhaust or with an e30 525i system flow well enough to support the engine. (i would probably be going for stealth over loud), would get rid of the cats of course. Lastly the brake booster seems to have heaps of clearance issues, i have seen solutions but they all seem to be LHD vehicles, am i right that RHD still has the booster on the left but has an extension bar going under the dash? if so how does this affect connection of a modified booster?

    E32 750il LSD

i believe its a large case 3.15. will confirm and see if he can send a photo. he was looking for around $1k but im not sure if that is decent. as a dutchman he is usually open to offers.
  24. so much easier to install with the quick turn. hb3 and hb4 have slightly different tabs so cant interchange. also one has a single notch inside the plug the other has 2. similar bulbs just slightly different light diffusion for different reflector types.
