can be done but depends how much car you want. 520i you can do 540i would probably be crap. can go real hardcore with something like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=612162956 anything newer will either be expensive as it will be fixed up or be cheap and risk needing work. if you afford to dump the car if it goes wrong you could get an e39 525i for that money just dont expect to many extras

you know your a petrol head when you get home at 2am possibly a little pissed and get on bimmersport. Or you are still at work....
-
radiator out would probably be much easier. I havent done one on a 6cyl but being they have issues i would be looking at its history and considering doing the waterpump, thermostat, hoses and radiator while its out. also viscous coupling. worth inspecting anyway. And doing a coolant change if the rad is coming out anyway

probably octoberish

pickapart are known for decent priced wheels, also known for selling buckled and cracked wheels without telling anyone,
-
but at least with a swift you can pick it up and carry it home.

Anyone a mechanic or work in the automotive industry?
yng_750 replied to Lukeprusher's topic in General Discussion
vast question really. firstly we dont know anything about you, skills, qualifications, work ethic. or what you want to do and where. Lots of guys here are part of the automotive industry. Personal recommendation, start going to bmw meet ups and drink nights, best way to meet people. -
i cant speak to the engine damage as there are massive amounts of factors in play. but returning the car with panel damage and suspension bolts loose is just downright unexcusable.

unrelated but whats the bet that rx7 is responsible for that stack of used tyres.

just in general all i can say to look out for is the type with the double spring and a second plunger on the back. the second plunger is often pressure based rather than heat and just changes the way water flows around an engine at various rpms. As i understand it it is a pressure bypass to slow the water flow, water flowing to fast at high rpms goes down the straight side paths and leaves water channels between cylinders untouched, and hence overheated. very hard to diagnose issue caused by age and fatigue but can cause huge issue in hard driven engines. Usually a jap thing but thought i would share.

tidy and a good price. must say you will sell much easier with a fresh WOF. glws

so more fools arguing over race based politics. cant think of a better time to casually slip in unnoticed with a bmw political party. they already use beemers for Government cars, a promise for tax breaks on all german cars and no income tax for german car owners, would have my vote, and make the roads safer.

generally speaking thermostats as you say open in temperatures approaching the set 87' but as temps keep increasing it opens further and further if you take it out and retest check that it opens smoothly all the way as temp increases past 100'c you often get a tight spot when they age from heat cycles expanding them slightly and if it sticks halfway open then it can handle normal driving but can fail with high heat production when it gets driven hard. other than that all i can say is that factory temp gauges aren't to be overly trusted, could be worth installing a small digital one (much better with digital readout as you can see every single degree) even temporarily to sort any issues. otherwise to be vehicle specific it would be worth talking to an audi specialist as you dont want to ignore a problem with cooling systems and you dont want to spend dollars chasing a problem that doesnt exist.

must say that was a decent episode, corolla got F****ed. Also jimmy carr showed us that pure commitment to the throttle doesnt stop you wrecking the reasonably priced car
-
haha wouldnt say that, though i wouldnt deny it. had to go. had a free ride from sydney, free tickets to the event, and a spot for the campervan right behind pitlane, waking up the sounds of the track.

Just bought my tickets. Who else is taking up the pilgrimage.

most people think that worst drivers must mean best owners for some reason. i.e. one old lady owner. F*** that, you think a 65 year old chinese lady will maintain it? just ride the clutch all the way to countdown twice a week.
