Thought i might update Was abit slow getting quotes from the wreckers but FMG were very helpful Its actually their preference to settle with cash aparently so when i suggested it they jumped at the oppertunity 4 days later $1475 in the bank, not bad for a headlight and grill I though i would have to settle lower but that figure was exactly half way between the two repair quotes. yes they actually paid more that what it was quoted to fix.

im not 100% on what exactly is going wrong but if its an issue of no power to the coil try running a wire straight from the battery to the coil + should at least get it going to diagnose the problem but coil issues seem to be going or not if the previous owner has a misfire issue it could liekly be a sensor issue

if anyone is interested i have started a thread in which i will detail everything i check Thread

i have a 1998 e39 m62b44 non vanos 540i did a good thousand kms of driving over the past weekend and after sitting for a day it seems to have developed a rough idle and has a small miss while driving. exhaust doesnt smoke or smell of fuel so possibly a mixture issue rather than complete miss things checked so far in order of what i thought prudent 1. put injector cleaner in, no immediate difference 2. pulled engine covers, no oil in galleries and no arcs off coil packs at night. one coil pack is marked 2007 and is a different brand to the others, looks like its been quite hot but no smells. 3. cleaned AFM and ICV. no immediate change but havent run on a cold morning yet, as that is when its at its worst. Will update Things to test. 4. Pull plugs (new plugs 9 months ago a per Service history) and check for discoloration that would indicate a bad coil or cracks in plug etc 5. investigate CCV valve. still not exactly sure where this is. back of the intake?? any guidance appreciated. 6. Get codes read, still trying to find a place in taupo for this, tossing up buying the cable from the UK. 7. Check for vacuum leaks or split hoses. going to attempt either gas or smoke test in a diy fashion. any other ideas or guidence on up and coming test appreciated will keep this updated and add pictures for others reference

just gave the AFM and ICV a good clean out, seems to run better but its not dead cold at the moment it has one new coil pack in it 7 are bmw and dated 1997 one is dated 2007 and made in tunisia, doesnt smell burnt but doesnt look very flash so may have been a crappy quality replacement that being said the exhaust smells clean so might not be spark related

Hey guys just trying to sort through a couple of niggles in my 540i firstly on long trips the traction control light sometimes turns on, pretty sure its a wheel speed sensor but not sure which one Also ive done just over 1100kms over the past weekend without skipping a beat and on the drive to work this morning it seems to have developed a slight misfire and the idle isnt as settled as usual Does anyone know of a business in taupo who can read the codes for me? Or someone who owns a scan tool and would do it for me for a box of beers? help is much appreciated

not sure if anyone noted it but the braked capacity is the weight of a trailer that has its own braking system built in a car with a 2000kg braked and 750kg unbraked means it has the capacity to pull and turn 2000kg but can only safely slow down 750kg by itself

it has the electronic sport suspension button that stiffens everything up very noticeably i might add

thats what im hoping to do the local fmg repair agent said they are sometimes keen to pay you whats quoted (minus cost of repairer quoting the job ) just to avoid the chance of more damage showing up mid repair otherwise i will try for less cash

as a side note my flatmate was abit gutted that his excess jumped from $300 to $600 because he was under 25 he was really quite lucky, most insurance companies jump it up to $1200 or $1500
-
Ok quick details My flatmate backed into my poor e34 525i a few weeks back smashed my headlight housing, grill, guard, indicator and possibly a few other bits. He has full insurance i have none as that car wasn't being used much His insurance company is FMG and they are repairing mine as an uninsured third party Rough quote put repairs at between $1400 and $1700 Is anyone in the know of how i would go about convincing them to give me a cash payout rather than repair it? Am i entitled to this option? i have access to parts to repair it myself as its all bolt on stuff any help would be greatly appreciated

this ones not really a music video, though maybe is should be its an ad done to celebrate 20 years of antispeeding/drunkdriving etc commercials in aussie R.E.M everybody hurts i like it because its done with video that evokes emotion at just the right points in the song even if you dont like it you will drive slower the next day

correct me if im wrong but the valves should have bent below the valve guides? if they are bent bove id say tap them straight with a hammer if they are bent inside the valve guides they prob need replacment

ideally finish with plastic polish rather than cut and polish, will make for a better finish
