  1. Same as me. as you know John, a few months ago i was just over mine and seriously considered parting it out as well. someone told me to walk away from it for a while and come back and appreciate what i have. took that advice and havent touched it for the last few months until yesterday, and now i enjoy working on it again, and doesnt seem like the chore it used to be.
  2. neither sorry, unless its the same part number on an E36 4cyl aux fan?
  3. park it up and leave it for 6 months. come back to it
  4. Yeah already sorted out some H&R Cup springs which are lower than that. i believe they are a 60/40. it seems my rear will come down ever so slightly and the front will be dropped about 40mm from where it is now. mmmmm rake
  5. just to check, that piece you have shown is not compatable with aircon... do you have aircon in your car?
  6. Are the driveshafts really different too? i thought it was just the axels that were thicker? OP, if you dont already know how to find out what ratios you have, take a look at the back of them and you should see a metal tag attached to ond of the bolts. clean/degrease/wriebrush etc that till you can see the numbers on it and the first three or the last three (cant remember off the top of my head, should be obvious though) tell you want ratio it is.
  7. yeah i thought that would be the case. i thought 60 in the back was a bit outragous. do you or anyone have any idea how much M325i springs lower the car over stock, or know the rideheights of that and a regular E30?
  8. yes. ratios are all different. but they are all interchangable
  9. Keeping one at this stage is the trouble lol
  10. Hey all. does anyone know how much either of these lower the front or rear of the car? My current setup is M325i springs in the front (possibly M3 if its the same spring?) and Jamex in the back, what i would assume are superlows. Will post a photo if noone knows to open up to guesses Am going to H&R Cup all round which is 2.1" drop in the front and 1.7" in the rear from stock height and assuming wheels stay the same. just wanting to do some measurements tomorrow but the H&R stuff isnt going in for a while yet. Thanks! Andy
  11. okay so after spending the morning and early arvo washing and waxing my cars i went over there and got started on his car again. Clipped in a new ignition switch which i tested and does not have any change in regularity. the car initially stayed dead, then it decided it would show it had life and the dash lights came up in ON and cloud set the clock etc. (Also found it had a WORKING fan switch!! never heard an E30 fan on 1,2, or 3 lol) This time the ICV was humming too. turned the key to start, but it died again like i thought it would. So still stumped! i probed around a lot with the multi meter and everything is fine. I checked: Current draw (when the car was normal but ignition to OFF) = 0.1mA Resistance from +ve to starter = 0.1 ohms Resistance to fuse box = how to check?? Voltage across jumper leads = 10<V<14 Voltage at starter (permanent live) = same few other bits and pieces but all telling the same story. I also had a good chat about it on anything that may have contributed to it before it was stopped being used, and apparently it hit a loose manhole cover which took out the wiring to the automatic tranny (its one of the late model electrohydraulic ones). This prevented the car from responding at all as well. He does not know/cant remember whether they reconnected the old one or installed a new loom. Once this was done the car was drivable again. I think this might be the next thing to check, but i really have no idea what id be looking for as ive never looked at/worked on an electrohydrauic 'box before. Anyone have any photos or something of that area? Any other ideas?
  12. got them "free" on the 316i i parted
  13. i knew something to that effect would come up! at least mine makes a good garden ornament for now. Smileys look good imo, and seem to give off more light but that may just be placebo
  14. well last time i went for a WOF at VTNZ i failed on them (the only thing i failed on), but i knew id be doing an over haul on them so i went to a different garage and got my WOF (yeah yeah i know im anal about this.. do as i say not as i do etc lol). I cant remember what they look like. i can PM a photo tomorrow when i put my new wheels on? Will be going for zero toe as well, and not sure what i want to do for camber untill i get my new wheels on. Might have clearance angles that want even more camber (eek!) but ideally will want it more +ve
  15. I see a problem in my case.. i can easily put my new rear springs in to find the rear ride height, but my bushes out back are 20yo and rooted, and will be replaced with urethane ones at the same time as doing this mod. is an alignment before i tear it all apart still recommended? would think installation of the urethane ones alone would change things a bit. what would you recommend as a POA or would the change from the old OEM ones to urethane not make a big enough difference to worry about?
  16. someone on here buy it so i can when i have money! lol
  17. cant have to many black E30s with smileys now can we ha
  18. Happy to be corrected if im wrong, but if its faulty does that not mean that the ECU has no way of knowing where the engine is in its cycle and has no idea when to fire injectors etc? couldnt be taken from the TPS as you can have half throttle at 2k rpm or 6k rpm...
  19. your car is certainly growing on me, including the wheels! who knew!? def needs smileys though if you can manage to snag a pair.
  20. its not just a case of bolting them on either. without knowing the setup on either car, i would gaurentee that youll have to get the beams aligned as well.. if the adjustment is even adequate for that
