  1. WHERE DO I SIGN UP! New Zealand roads arn't smooth enough do really do that unfortunately. The chip seal is too rough.
  2. Depending on the diesel and if you could get the gearing to ulitlize the torque band then yes. VW had entered a few golf mk4 and mk3 diesel rally cars in the 90's with some success but the tech back then wasn't at the level to which it is now for diesel engines. If you look at wrc cars due to the restrictor plate they are required to run they rev very very low if i remember it's something like 5,500 - 6,500 as air flow above that is restricted too much by the plate. The engines are developed to produce as much torque as possible. The new diesel engines are all alloy so the weight isn't as much as of problem as before with the older cast iron engines. There isn't much in the way of "performance" diesel components at the moment, but over the next few years i will suspect that will change. You only need to look at WTCC and Le Mans to see that diesel doesn't equal heavy and slow....
  3. I wasn't getting into and argument... it was just a discussion.
  4. Thats kool, they are a new engine in terms of development. It would also be interesting to see what boost levels the turbos are running at comparatively. The price for those cars is also substantially higher than that of the Peugeots also. I would expect them to be more powerful. It's the same as the co-developed 207 GTI and Mini Cooper S/John Cooper works specials, BMW changed the internals of the engine to allow more power to be developed, but the Mini also costs more. Peugeot has never made "powerful" engines...
  5. All 2009 Specs Holden R8 = 550Nm at 4600rpm (6.2-litre V8) Holden SV6 = 350Nm at 2900rpm (3.6-litre V6) Peugeot 407 2.7 Diesel = 440Nm at 1900rpm (2.7-litre V6) Peugeot 407 2.0 Diesel = 320Nm at 2000rpm (2.0-litre IL4) All the new pugs diesels use a Porsche developed 6 speed tiptronic gearbox, and i can safely say it's a damm nice box to drive...
  6. We are going to give the sport maxx a try - the cheapest price i could get for the Nero was $450 and one place was $650 - a lot didn't stock them and we didn't want to pay that much for them. My GF really doesn't push the car so it's going to be used more as a touring/city tyre. If it was for a fast road car then i would look at something different. The RE001 was going to be roughly $40 more a tyre than the price i ended up getting.
  7. I know the owner of that... He also owns A LOT of other very very nice cars...

  9. you need to change your driving style to really drive a diesel... it's not something most people can do easily. I'm bias but after driving the VAG diesels, and a few of the jap diesels - i can safely say they have a long way to go before they catch up with the Pug Diesels epically the new diesel engine in the 308. The older HDI pugs where fantastic, didn't sound like a diesel and drove effortlessly.
  10. Diesels are quieter now than most petrol engines... Well the pug ones anyways...

In drag racing maybe... but throw a less powerful better handling car on a B road and lets see how it goes...
  12. After getting a lovely puncture yeasterday we are now looking for two new tyres for the 307. Size: 205 / 50 / 17 She current has Pirelli P Zero Nero's on the car and they where good. I've been looking around and seen the the 50 profile isn't all that common from what seen and a 40 profile is much more common. Would there be much of a impact going to a 40 profile over a 50 profile? Also what tyres would you recommend for someone who doesn't really push the car, nice quiet ride, and good overall performance. I don't want to cheap out on the tyres but i don't really want to spend mega bucks on performance tyres when 99% of the time the cars just cruising around.

you doing the hillclimb on the 28th?
  14. wigram Pilsner! http://www.wigrambrewing.co.nz/beer.html
  15. Andrea looked at one before getting the 307, they are soo incredible small inside it's not funny. I thought Alfa's didn't come in auto, only manual and sillyspeed?
  16. I really like it... Needs different wheels. Love the color. (i'm looking at a color like that, or the mazda 2 green for the racecar when i get the new paint job down the track)
  17. So if you can find a manual thats dereg'd with very minor damage it might be a better buy than an auto at 400 or 600 that you then need to do a conversion on... Thats more the point i was getting at...
  18. oh... i thought that one was still registered as i don't think it was a damaged car auction. its still worth checking out the damaged auctions as you can get a car with very very minor damage due to the age (think dents) for next to nothing. How much is it to re-reg a car? espically if you factor in a manual conversion into the mix.
  19. So that 320 manual 4 door that i posted up from the auctions for a $0 reserve might have been a really good buy then... It was listed at 0 - 500 for indicated price...
  20. welcome to dealing with the public... your going to get it no matter what industry your in. IT = LOTS of complaints (best one i've heard... it was noisy so i removed all the fans and now it won't turn on, i want a new pc) Marketing = lots of complaints (quality of work, didn't print properly, etc...) Hospo = god the complaints when i worked at sky city... endless... the bed was uncomfortable i want a discount. (yes we even had i didn't like the porn i want a refund... sir you watched all six over the 5 days you where here... yes i was trying to find a good one... but you paid for one 3 times... i couldn't remember if it was any good, and no it was crap. i want a refund...) everybody wants everything for free... or as cheap as possible, they will go out of their way to get it cheaper also, usually costing more in money and time than doing it properly or paying full price.
  21. what sort of look do you want? Flashy, Clean, etc... What needs to be done to get it road legal? What color are your wheels, what color is the car?
  22. Red Line Shockproof oil has been recommended to me by a lot of oversea's racers - but it's not cheap
  23. urethane = the material the bush is made from 75D is the grade of the urethane nolathane = a company that sells urethane/polyurethane suspension components. the 75D actually refers to the Durometer of the material - learn here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shore_durometer the color is just a dye added to it, just like all the powerflex bushes are yellow or purple.
