One thing to be aware of is the conditions where the chip was created. Fuel and Climate will play a big big part in what tune the engine can run. Japan use 100RON fuel to do most of their tunes and thats what manufactures use to get the performance figures, it's also why a lot of the top jap sports cars can't get the same 0-100 times in nz, it's because of the lower fuel quality, if i remember somewhere going from 100Ron to 96Ron can net a 2-3% decrease in performance i've also heard 2% decrease in performance for 100Ron to 98Ron. It's just something to be aware of... a nz dyno tune/custom chip would be made for nz conditions and fuel. E: Spelling/Typing was crap...

Also been looking at both of these: Thermo-Tec Kevlar Heat Shield http://www.nimbusmotorsport.com/ProdShop2....7&CATID=268 and Nimbus Lite Heat Shield http://www.nimbusmotorsport.com/ProdShop2....2&CATID=252

you could also look at something like this: http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/cool_foil_tape.php And just line the trans tunnel with it... I've got some of that ceramic mat insulation and the problem is with mounting it to the car. I was recommened to use the above foil tape to mount it. I got the 3M version of the tape from Auckland Engineering Supplies. Also off the heat shield products where to buy page: New Zealand RACEPRO Marketing, Ltd. 235 Kumeu Auckland Tel 64-941-222-69 FAX 64-941-222-61

No different than a car build/project thread for those people interested in computers. This thread would go into the off-topic / social side of the club... members interacting on other possible interests with other club members...

I get to do all the pc testing for the company so i get to play with everything! We are currently benchmarking the SSD drives at work and to be honest the cheaper ones are sh*t... We are going to be looking at the 2nd gen drives with caching to see if they are better but after running real world tests on them in programs like Autocad they arn't all that much better. The first gen had big problems with drive life also. We should be getting in a couple ssd and sas drives to compare against the 10,000 rpm standard drives for our workstations. We are going to be looking at the OCZ drives. Also there was a larger differance between the standard sata drive and ssd when running windows 7 when comparing the start-up times. I can post up the results on Monday for those that care. My Work PC (looking to replace with Z800 workstations) HP XW6600 Dual Quad-Core Quadro 4600 2.5 TB of drive space (2 x 1tb drives, 1 x 500gb ) dell 24inch and hp 17inch screens

really depends on how hardcore you want this as a setup? it's all $$$ in the end... Something like this would be very kool and fairly easy to make... but once you start adding sound systems, water stores (hand pump/electic pump), battery storage for electrical equipment/charging system, bbq + gas supply, coolers, a rubbish bin for recycling / general rubbish, etc.. you might run into size / weight issues... just thinking are you thinking about a power outlet for running things like laptops (collecting photos, mp3 playback), lights, tv's, etc... a input power should you be at a powered site to run the sound system, tv's and extra's... Seeings as how your all bmw nuts, you could see about finding a 2/3 cut of a wagon and converting that. would make a great promo trailer for the club/brand.

We where looking at making something like this up a few years ago... I think i've still got the plans i drew up for it around somewhere i'll see if i can find them... We where going to use things like marine grade head deck and speakers so a little water wouldn't matter. we where contemplating things like getting a massive cooler (or plastic welding 3 smaller ones together) and putting in a drain plug (for melted ice runout) instead of trying to run a lpg/electric fridge. We i think decided on 2 coolers of a decent size one for drinks and one for food. We where looking at using 2 x 9kg lpg bottles so should it be used for camping trips it would have no worries of running out (overkill). They where going to be stored in a square foam lined box with lockable hinged top. A dry store for things like bread, chips, napkins, plates, etc... Preferably all lockable, and if you wanted to get really trick you could use the central locking units from some old dead cars from Ray or someone and run it from an alarm/fob.

run a few car batteries in the base with an alternator hooked up to the axles to allow it charge the sound system while it's been driven???

Bit off Topic - i've got the original spare tyre from my 306... manufactured in 92! Jono - what would you recommend as a cheap touring tyre 195/65/15 for the diesel daily...

It really depends on the file... Most of the time there is no point compressing jpg's (raw format might be a little different) as it doesn't reduce the file size by much at all, the files end up being about 95 - 98% of their original file size.

Glenn if you get really stuck give me a call, we can work something out for you.

Also had it confirmed that the car is sitting deadly flat in the corners now so all the rear end work has done it's thing! Whoop whoop

Well not really an update, but the temp shifter bushes MLM made for the car finally crapped out... and it looks i'll need to get something much much stronger made as they didn't last all that long... Ashkan that will be why i couldn't find 3rd on the drive we did, there was too much play in the bushes.

don't worry about the back - just drive the front of the car and the back will follow...

205 (gti 1.6 or 1.9), 309 (gti 1.9), 306 (gti-6 / s16 models) Don't expect amazing power thats not what the cars are good at... most things will walk away from them in a straight line race, where the pugs have their advantage is in the corners and their ability to change direction. Find a nice twisty road to test drive one, and DO NOT LIFT mid-corner if your pushing it or you will be the proud owner of a lovely lawn ornament.
