The PFL have two fuel pumps (kind of). There's a transfer pump in-tank which pulls the fuel from the tank to the main/external pump. It may just be one of them which has gone bad or both. I just purchased a new transfer pump as i could hear the external pump making quite a bit of noise so it was likely that the transfer pump had gone bad and the external pump was being overworked by doing the work of 2 parts. When I was looking at Fuel pumps (external) they were about $200 USD shipped from bmaparts.com.

Saw a nice looking 328i on Customhouse quay today. Grey with a bimmersport sticker on it too!

Since the fuep pump wasn't replaced while you were doing the overhaul and from what you describe its possibly a bad fuel pump. Another symptom would be a bad idle that would climb then drop etc etc. If it's prefacelift you'll have a transfer pump in the tank and an external fuel pump. Otherwise it'll be just one in the tank. Theres a way you can test to see if the fuel pumps are working fine in the bentley manual but I can't remember exactly. Sorry if thats all a bit of a ramble, im just kinda bored waiting for my brother to get his hair cut :-)

Just the one for E30's. From what I've read, the earlier models had the 2 piece and the later models the 1 piece. That's all I know though. Whether the one piece is better at sealing it or has some other sort of benefit i don't know. The mechanism is basically the same on pfl and fl so i can't imagine that has anything to do with the change. I've got the 2 piece on it now (factory). The 1 piece is a little cheaper so I think i might just go for that one unless someone thinks otherwise....

Hey mate do you have a good condition alpine white sunroof ? Thanks
-
I need a new sunroof seal for a manual sunroof in a 1987 e30 325i. There seem to be 2 options of what to get and im not too sure which one to go with even after looking through google... 1) get a one piece seal or 2) get the two piece, front and rear. Thanks for any help from anyone! :-)

I think I saw the same one just now parked somewhere by Island Bay (i don't really know where i was! ha) looked very good though. Was it a coupe? looked like a pfl with tech1 kit but im not sure

yeah E30's are nice cars, go with one i say! I'm not exactly mechanically minded but I have an E30 and it's my first car. I do bits and pieces on the engine, it's good to learn all that stuff i think :-) Anyway, just by looking at it on trade me I'd say look for something else or just wait it out. You want something that's been looked after at least a little bit - some sort of service history. I think for that price or maybe a little bit more you could get something far nicer! I was looking around at E30s for around 6 months before i got mine. As for AA checks, I didn't get one done and from what i read on here they're a waste of time and money on such an old car. You'll inevitably end up with pages of things 'wrong' with it. I used this 'buyers guide' to help me with my purchase. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?826530-E30-buyers-guide

hmmm.... captions are too hard -
Looking to buy a (preferably alpine white) sunroof to replace the rusted one on my 87 325i. Around Wellington or 2 hour drive away sort of thing preferably. It is a manual sunroof if that changes anything. Thanks, Toby

I always wondered what that switch was for! Problem solved, thanks so much.

The rear power windows in my '87 325i Sedan don't work when using the switches in the back but work fine when using the switches in the front around the gear stick.... Could it just be as simple as the rear switches being bad? If it's not too hard of a fix I'd fix it otherwise i might just leave it... Thanks

I finally figured it out - what i was seeing in the engine bay was the fuel filter and what i was seeing by the rear left wheel was the fuel pump. I thought the fuel pump was under the back seats but apparently not on pre 8/87 E30's. Thanks for the quick response anyway...

Merry Christmas to you too! I haven't been on here long but I can say that all you Wellington bimmersporters seem like a great bunch. I'd be keen to come along to a few meets or something next year too. Anyway, all the best for the new year

So apparently some E30's have a fuel filter in the engine bay and others have them in front of the rear left wheel. I have a 325i produced 7/87. I can see the filter in the engine bay, so I know there's one there, but when i look in front of the rear left wheel I can also see something that looks like the fuel filter? Could there possibly be 2 fuel filters? I may take some photos tomorrow if required, anyway, hope someone can help me out Thanks, Toby

I'd go with the gold personally. Always thought the gold BBS looked really good on a white E30

I just did the cap and rotor myself. Idk who is trying to sell it for $350 but I bought it for USD $67 and the rotor was USD $23. This was from bma autoparts. Shipping was a killer though. Just look around. Edit: Genuine Bosch too.

Ahh that may be a better idea than the allen key. Might even cut a little piece off the allen key and put it in a spanner. Its just beig under the car when its on stands is what bugs me!
-
Wouldn't budge!! Either I get myself a gym mebership or do you think any shops would crack it loose for me using som fancy tools?

Having a (very) hard time getting the fill plug out of my manual transmission. I have a 17mm allen key. A penetrating oil such as PB Blaster looks like my best bet. Are there any alternatives to this? or any tricks to getting this bolt out? There isn't a lot of room down there so it's quite hard! Some people suggest jacking the wrench/allen key but i'm not too keen on that. Any ideas? Cheers Edit: 1987 E30 325i

Is this the 2014 quattroporte? Always liked the look of the older ones to be honest, like the 2008-2011 models looked the best IMHO but it's just me. Still nice looking though no doubt

You're in the right place! Well done - im kinda new too and i find it a little hard choosing where to post. You're off to a good start. Welcome :~) -
In case you were wondering, I contacted the people I bought these from and they said it would work fine - just zip tie the extra cable away from any moving parts. Did exactly that and everything works fine. Again, thanks for the advice.

haha you're definitely right, but im sure you know just how tempting it is to get your car back up and running asap! That said, I'll contact the people i got it from and see what they have to say. Thanks!
