  1. $1500 might be a bit on the cheap side. Most kits usually sell for around a grand depending on whether ZF or Getrag, plus new clutch & flywheel ($1100+) puts you at at least $2000. Plus the right ratio diff ($350ish if open, up to $1100 if LSD) and then add labour in over that. You can cut corners and use the auto diff if you can tolerate your highway RPM at 3100 ish, it drove me nuts so I went for a 3.15, and rebuilt it with an LSD pumpkin. Can be done for parts cost if you're handy with spanners and don't mind a bit of frustration. I found the job relatively straightforward, just pays to get your kit from a known reputable source. Main things you'll need are long (500mm) socket extensions, a good high lift jack, good stands & a set of torx sockets. Invest in a good quality torque wrench too. Both Brent & Ray will be able to sell you good parts at good prices.
  2. Wow, those style 5s look tits! How much of a hassle was the stroker? What did you pay for the necessary parts?
  3. Have used Mainfreight for a few things now, all good experiences. Might pay to investigate insurance options though, would suck if the wheels went AWOL in transit
  4. Gah! The one night I went to bed early, and I missed out on this!! How much would you have taken for the chassis, out of interest? Edit - was the ECU Reflashed to manual spec? And what are the Alpine specs? RCA outs x how many? How old is it? Ta muchly
  5. Just shows that even retards have at least one friend. Isn't this the same dipshit that killed himself drifting on a public road?
  6. Hmmm, maybe some americans are starting to understand sarcasm after all
  7. B30 beats B28 in my book. Doesn't help that the 328i has been sitting undriven for a long time too. Could be ok, could be a lemon too
  8. +1 for Qualitat. Have had nothing but good experience so far. Even though they sell parts for the automotive equivalent of a fridge.
  9. As with all parts places, sometimes they're good and other times they're horrendous. Most of the battle is finding staff that are parts people, not just retail assistants
  10. Assuming most people know to have some form of UPS on a domestic level. Which from what I've seen so far most people don't even understand the primary difference between copper & fibre. Not that they really care either
  11. I've been using Helecom for a couple years now, previously with vodapone and then orcon. On the rare occasion I call them I've never spoken to anyone other than a local, and their cell coverage and copper stability have utterly outperformed anything I've ever had from vodadorks. Their CS was terrible, same went for orcon. Truth of the matter is, until we get some major investment back into the fixed llne networks we're always going to be miles behind the curve. Fibre is great but utterly useless when the power goes out. Might as well just get used to it
  12. Agreed! Both crashes were E36's, one an M3 that was t-boned on the passenger side (belonged to a mate, happily he was the only one in the car) and my partners 320i. She got hit across the drivers front corner, sending her through a 720 deg spin, coming to rest on the pavement against a concrete block fence. She walked away from the crash with a minor concussion and a small bruise on her left ankle. I have photos of the wreck, the drivers chassis rail had migrated across by about 8 inches, and there wasn't a straight panel anywhere on the car except the roof. Thats why I buy BMWs. Both people quite possibly would be dead were they in cars less over-engineered.
  13. Sorry, but hell no! Took me years to save for and install the manual & LSD- I ain't about to walk away from it now! Bought it as an auto from a guy that wanted to be completely rid of an ex girlfriend. Besides which, I still need to work out how to fit an M60 into it
  14. Ahhh poo. There goes that idea then. Thanks
  15. ...that was bought for less than 3k and on the basis of proven safety rather than the badge glued to it. if a kia could prove mechanical reliability and soundness of engineering then i'd just as happily drive one. brands aren't important. surviving crashes is.
  16. Can anyone tell me if the head from a M50B25 will fit a late (twin vanos) M52B28 block? Any modification required?
  17. Most people in this little backwater of ours will agree with you. Also, most people in this little backwater will believe themselves to be far better drivers than they actually are. Most people will also believe themselves to be capable of independent and free thought, yet spend their lives slavishly devoted to the pursuit of capitalist consumerism, and vote according to the proclamations of the mass media. While arbitrary rules are nearly always woefully inadequate, they unfortunately are the only way to maintain a singular 'unbiased' standard across a large population. I agree that when confronted with statistical and anecdotal proof the speed laws in this country prove themselves an ass. Be as it may, the law is law, and therefore must be upheld. Given also the woeful state of a great many of the local and state highways, balanced against the highly advanced machines driven by most people in this country, and reinforced with a driver licensing system that is designed to have subjects merely pass a test as opposed to demonstrably prove their fitness to pilot 1 - 3 tonnes of steel at 28 m/s, it comes as no surprise that the only effective weapon the Police perceive themselves to have is draconian enforcement. Teach our young adults to drive safely, and introduce a system of proving competency at regular intervals, and watch our road toll nosedive. Til then, lets all drive like terrified geriatrics for fear of being told off by those with Authoritah
  18. DW = dirty weekend. Castaways is a rather swish collection of beachside baches at Kariotahi, probably about the ONLY upmarket accommodation west of the Bombays There was racing out here? Aww stink, never even heard about it
  19. What brings you to the far west of Franklin?? DW at Castaways?
  20. Would help to know where in NZ you are. I used Sterling Brake & Clutch in Onehunga, Akl. OEM quality, good guys to deal with and good pricing. Right down to replacing a busted bleed valve on the clutch slave. Clutch kits are around $300 - 400, comes with throwout too. Better to just get a new one and save the arseing about in a few months when the existing plate starts to lose the plot. Brent (forum sponsor) can help out with shifter parts I believe. Good luck, conversions can be a trying project but the result is entirely worth the grief
  21. Quote of the day I got double time & a lieu day. Same again today too! Public holidays are awesome
  22. Lmao.... 'Metallica' blue
  23. And that folks, is why OEM quality wheels are always better than cheap knock-offs! Looks like it was a hell of a prang, good to see you've made it through largely in one piece
  24. Have always had a soft spot for the wagon version of these. Just too chicken to seriously consider buying one. Wifey won't drive manual and the Selespeed has too poor a reputation. Though there is the odd wagon with the normal auto.......... mmmmmm, Pinafarina.......
