  1. Rapid Radio would be my first port of call. Could try your luck on TM, eBay would probably yield better results. If you don't have one already wiring diagrams are fairly easily obtained. There's a couple E39 guys round here that might point you in the right direction - there's always the multimeter & tone source if you can't find any guides. Good luck, post up some pics when you're done
  2. All good man, just wondered if I'd missed out on some great leap forward in car stereos In the installs I've done I just cut & soldered my way through, no point in removing the unit when I've sold the car. Plug in looms are a hell of a lot easier but I have had a couple that created earth loops. That may have been care of crap quality looms but ever since I've just gone with solder & heatshrink. Depends on whether you want to keep the unit when you sell the car on really.
  3. Am I out of step with the times? Whats old school about a single DIN HU?? I'd have thought Rapid Radio would be able to help out with adapter plates & a loom adapter. Probably a good place to start anyhoo
  4. Hmm, would you sell the rear struts separate? *Edit - just saw your other FS post Disregard
  5. Dammit!! 11 minutes too slow Out of curiosity, how much do you sell them for, Ray?
  6. Better to go into a shop (not repco) and ask around, listen to a few & trust your ears man. Its been a few years since I've bought anything more involved than a new set of splits for wifeys babymobile. I still have a soft spot for Nakamichi & MB Quart gear, but again, I'm referring to kit thats over 10 years old now. Any crowds around like Paul Money or Rapid Radio in Tauranga?
  7. Probably does make a difference, but as you're running through an inexpensive Sony head unit I'd wager it won't be noticeable. I would advise you to find an alternative to the Fusion amp, my experience with them in the past showed them to be poorly built, crappily made & 'optimistic' with their claimed power outputs. Might be different now but they seemed to make a lot of noise, not necessarily quality sound.
  8. Thanks, best laugh of the week
  9. Thanks, figured they wouldn't correspond. TBH, I'm more interested in how much of a difference 0.7mm would make to the comp ratio. As far as an exercise in power gains, I'm rather more inclined to go the M60 route than fart about endlessly with a wee little 153ci I6 Although I do rather like the idea of stroking it out to 3l and shoving a suitable supercharger down its throat
  10. Been thinking about doing the HG on my M0b25 as a precautionary measure while the engine is out to facilitate the manual conversion. Which got me to thinking about something. Going by Realoem the M52B28 E46 HGs are 0.7mm & 1.0mm, as opposed to the 1.75mm on the M50. Which leads me to two questions. Do the coolant galleries & other bits like that retain the same measurements & locations as the M50 head? And how much will it wind up the compression by? Will the M50 in otherwise totally stock form handle the increase? Will the stock ECU accommodate it for fueling & not retarding timing? Am I talking out of my fundamental orifice or is this something worth investigating? Ok, so I lied when I sad two questions TIA
  11. Ahhh, wondered if I'd seen it around before. Looked heaps better with those 10" rears he had Edit* Wasn't his car a 325i?
  12. There's an E36 with some sort of a widebody arrangement doing the rounds as well on tardme at the moment. Makes this look tasteful and restrained in comparison http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-579404332.htm
  13. Full set of Bilsteins to suit an E46 went up on Tardme tonight, and in the 15 min it took me to cross-reference some part numbers some bugger hit buynow Which leads me on to my point, now that I've swallowed & digested my disappointment. Anyone got any to suit E36 laying about in good condition they would part company with? And how many $? Tia
  14. Jap import? Fairly sure they're IR(?) receivers for your keyless entry then again, I'm no expert
  15. Sweet. Was wondering if it would just be a case of fabricating new brackets or if it would be a massive pita. Probably option 2. Are there any sites out there that list maximum torque loads for BMW diffs & gearboxes?
  16. Just wondering if it's possible to modify the E36 325/328 rear subframe to accommodate a large case diff without resorting to trying to find one off an M3. Looking at a V8 project some time in the nearish future & would like a few hints if I can get 'em. Ta
  17. So did you replace the cats with resonators / cans or just go for straight pipe? Am thinking about doing this at the same time as the manual conversion is done. Looks like it's still got the original ones ex factory, and after 170,000 ks I reckon they're doing more harm than good Am a little concerned about excessive noise if I just use pipe

  19. Was anticipating the noise was being caused by obliterated clutch packs, which I had on back order from the states c/o the father in law. Thankfully we've been able to cancel the order and get a refund on the ordered parts. Was expecting to spend a few hundred by the time new bearings & seals were factored into the rebuild. Sending it back now would result in a net loss and will cost me time I don't currently have. Again, lessons learned. Now, to figure out what to do with a 3.64 gear set.
  20. Well at least it gives me options I suppose. Already have an E36 3.73 plus I've got a 3.15 open on its way soonish. Got any links to the ebay seller you used? Ideally I want LSD for the soon to be fitted manual kit for the 325i, still deciding between the .15 & .64 ratios. The E30 medium casing is of no use in the E36 so will definitely become a parts donor at some point. Back to the drawing board!!
  21. Lesson learned. Seller not willing to do anything, was "unsure" if it was limited slip or not, although I recall a different tone to the conversation it's my word against his Lesson #1: NEVER buy parts unless you either know the seller is informed & legit Lesson #2: If someone offers you an LSD for $70, it's probably not LSD. Dumb me (sorry for the thread jacking OP)
  22. Well, the ball is in his court. Contacted earlier & informed that what I was sold are definitely not the goods described. Serves me right for thinking I was getting an LSD for $70 F*^%!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Wouldn't have bothered buying it if it wasn't. Pulled the cover off this afternoon to discover....... Only reason I bought it was for the LS carrier. really disappointed, the seller was a member on here. Will get in touch with him and find out what the story is before I start making any loud noises. Sucks
  24. Tag only has 3.64 stamped onto it, casing is still covered in 30 or so years worth of road grime so no clues there. Screw this, will pull the cover off tomorrow after work. Not gonna be a happy boy if I find an open centre! Strangely, when you turn either output flange or the input everything turns in the same direction, as i would expect from an lsd, though as soon as resistance is applied you can get it to slip pretty easy. Am thinking the clutches are stuffed.
