    World Cup

I'm proudly on the bandwagon, I don't see an issue with this. I also don't think it has anything to do with tall poppy syndrome. To be honest, I can't really take to soccer, and find it on the most part pretty dull. However, I am excited that New Zealand is doing well and punching well above its weight. I have watched the two games so far and am heading to the pub to watch the Paraguay game at 7.00 tomorrow morning and am excited by it. When New Zealand bows out of the tourney (which may be tomorrow) I will cease my soccer watching until the next World Cup, providing New Zealand qualifies. I'm much the same for most other sports that I don't normally show an interest in that New Zealand from time to time does well in. Whether it be equestrian, rowing or womens shot put I will watch with pride as New Zealand does well on the world stage.
  2. Bryan Don't hesitate to let me know any questions you might have about USA life vs NZ life. Despite the countries not being too differently culturally, I have noticed a lot of differences. I also think that it is easier for me being a Kiwi living in the USA to adapt than it is an American living in NZ.

    World Cup

The TV coverage that the All Whites are getting in the US is amazing. Both games have been played live on four different channels where I am (albeit two of them in Spanish). The games have also been on at breakfast time (kick off at 7.30am). The highlights of both games have also been on all of the network news broadcasts. It also seems that nearly everyone I run into that knows I'm a Kiwi wants to talk soccer with me. I even had one guy ring me at about 4.30am while he was at a casino in Tahoe and the in-house sports bookie was offering him 120:1 for the All Whites to beat Italy and 80:1 for a draw. Stupidly I didn't ask him to put any money on it (ain't hindsight a wonderful thing).
  4. I just found out. It is the southern most Canadian province.Seriously though, welcome Bryan. My wife's uncle lives in Aurora, Colorado. I'm a bit north west of you in Northern CA.
  5. I don't even know where America is?
  6. Saw it about six months ago. It is brilliant!
  7. One thing I would never do is listen to advice offered by someone who works at DSE (or any of the big box stores for that matter).

    Ski vehicle wanted

Well that suits. My wife drives it and carts our two kids around!Subarus have a completely different image here than they do in NZ. In fact they were the only manufacture that actually improved sales and market share during the 'great recession'. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37274797/ns/bu...g_businessweek/

    Ski vehicle wanted

We have a 3.0l Subaru Outback. It is outstandingly reliable, much more so than any other car I have ever owned. I was reluctant to buy it because it had done 140,000 miles when we got it, but my father in law gave it a thorough going over and gave it a clean bill of health. It now has 165,000 miles on it and apart from oil changes, and new filters/fluids all we have done is put new brake rotors on it. I was talking to a Subaru dealer here, and he said that they would buy it off us in an instant if we wanted to sell it. He said that there is a huge demand for the 3.0l versions of the Outback on the used market, but nobody ever parts with them so he can never get his hands on them.

    Indy 500 crash

and the oval has significant banking it eack of the corners, therefore there are different grip requirements for the right and left rear tyres.

Yes, very good! Keep encouraging it!
  12. Yeah, I can imagine SEMA would have some 'odd' creations. The show in San Fran wouldn't have been referred to as Southern California, that would be like calling a car show held in Christchurch an Auckland event.
  13. I've never seen anything like any in these pics, and I have been to an few car shows here (in fact am going to a Mustang show this weekend).

I've started the "Passat Posse" if anyone wants to join. We don't have stickers yet. We just write it with a Sharpie on the windows.

    My 1971 2002 Build

If ever there was a car that was meant to be this orange, this is it. I love it!
  16. It is actually 4,500 photos taken by a camera hooked up to a machine (to take the photos at the right intervals etc) and then sewn together by some powerful piece of software to form the one photo.Thats is why there can be fuzzy areas, and "bends" in objects and areas that don't match up perfectly.
  17. While the Dubai one was amazing (and I mean amazing) I always find Dubai looks to be a vulgar place. But I have never been there, so can't pass any real judgement. I did however like a lot of the other gigapixel places like Yosemite etc. They were awesome, but for sheer scale the Dubai one was hard to beat. I spent about 2 hours looking at the different pictures last night. Very cool!

    My 1971 2002 Build

Great project and fascinating read. I look forward to watching this through to its successful completion.
  19. Awesome. What is that like going through a drive thru, or getting a ticket from a machine in a carparking building? Do you find overtaking difficult and slightly dangerous?

    I need a GPS

My Garmin quickly became my constant companion when we moved to the USA. Meant I could concentrate on driving on the wrong side of the road and changing gear with my right hand and not worry about where I was going. I have no comparison, but have been very happy with my Garmin 765WT
  21. I'd just like to say that the response to the fastest reply in history, with the accompanying diagram(s) was the funniest thing I have seen today (and today is 1/2 over for me).
  22. I saw them in December at ARCO Arena in Sacramento. Don't get me wrong it was a good concert but it was not great. Maybe I went in with too high hopes. They have been on this tour for ever (I could have seen them in December 08 on the Death Magnetic Tour at the Savemart Centre in Fresno, but it was snowing so didn't go). I got the distinct impression in December 09 that they were bored and going through the motions. If they use the same stage layout as the concert at ARCO, it is far too big and there is very little interaction between the band, basically one playing at three of the four sides and Lars in the centre, with the drums rotating 90 degrees every so often. The playing was cohesive because they play the same songs night in, night out. I was happy with the set list, it was a good mixture from through their career, but if you don't like Death Magnetic then you will sit out a good chunk of the concert. No St. Anger thank christ! Cheers Grant
