Welcome....although you have been lurking. I also get "Done, but with errors on page." on every page (down the bottom left hand side of the screen) but as far as I can see it is working fine, so have never paid too much attention to it. Cheers Grant

Gus - did you put the gearbox out of my old E30 in it? If so, it was reasonably newly rebuilt, and the "whine" was the synthetic fluid that was used in it (made it sound whiney). Gavin Bellar, when he still had his BMW garage, rebuilt it for me. Cheers Grant

Hi All In light of the previous topic that was closed, I think that it would be a good idea if the people who know what they are talking about (Glenn, 3pedals, Zenetti) put together an article on how all of this works (tyre widths, offsets, lowering, suspension geometry) and once the article is completed it is made into a sticky. This can then be the reference point for anyone that wants to add larger rims, wider tyres and lowered suspension. Good idea??? Cheers Grant

I watch a fair bit of the Speed channel at Brook's parents when we are in the US. It is pretty good, and has a wide variety of motorsport. I'd be keen on something similar here - maybe Sky can buy the rights to Speed, but add local (NZ and Aus) conent to it, much like the existing ESPN channel on Sky. However, I am a much more passionate rugby fan than I am motorsport fan, and I found the Rugby Channel to be a waste of time (and don't subscribe). But in motorsport's favour there is a lot more of this (and a greater variety) worldwide, so a channel can probably be supported by good quality content. Cheers Grant

The Smashing Pumpkins always sound like the pain you described (I think anyway - I can't stand them). The Chili Peppers sound was either good or bad depending on where you were. I was in seats directly in front of the stage, about 3 rows from the front, and the spund was great. I had friends seated on the sides and the sound was crap there. The Vector Arena seem to have it pretty well sorted now (but as you said, the sound technicians seem to play a big part and have worked it out). I went to Crowded House (to see Supergroove) and sat on the side, and the sound was pretty good then. I'm pissed that I missed Linkin Park (moreso Chris Cornell), I was overseas at the time. I'm too old for GA tickets now, and much prefer having seats (should I want to sit down). It also means I can arrive at the last minute and not end up in a crap viewing position. I only got to my seat 2 minutes before the Foo's started (damn beer queues!!) Cheers Grant Grant

I went to Monday's show. I have seen most of the major rock acts that have played here in the last 15 years, and the Foo Fighters was by far the best. I have absolutely no negative comments on it at all, I think that if you wanted to plan the perfect concert than this should be the benchmark. Cheers Grant

+2I've nearly had enough for one day. A big day of exciting meetings tomorrow, so I can justify to myself finishing early today. Cheers Grant

I gave Glenn (E30-323ti) a warning. It changed one of the light blue squares to a darker blue (and gave him a warning level of 20%). I'll remove it now. Cheers Grant

I have a question about the use of a portable HDD? I thought about this a while back, and the reson I never pursued it any further (and just use my ipod/Sony head deck combo) is that I thought that a HDD would not handle the vibration/bumps that you would get while driving, and that the chance of a HDD failure would be pretty high. Is my train of thought a load of bollocks (I'm not saying it isn't - I know very little about this subject)? I am happy though with the the way I went as the Sony/ipod combination seems to work well (the Sony interface is pretty clumsy, but I normally play from set playlists anyway). Cheers Grant

I have no inclination to either walk or cycle across the bridge, but I think it is a bloody good idea. I'm amazed it hasn't been done earlier. The Golden Gate in SF has a walking/cycle lane, and it is pretty popular. Cheers Gtant

Yeah saw that earlier. It is looking really good. If only I didn't need 4 doors!!Cheers Grant

Its the router, as suggested get a new one. This has fixed mine and others (who had exactly the same problem)after exhaustive testing of everything by Ollie and Andrew. The routers that Telecom supply are rubbish. Strangely enough my entire internet performance has improved out of site since changing to a linksys router. My bittorrent's are downloading in a fraction of the time they used to take. Cheers Grant

We have full medical insurance, have had for a long time (about 6 years). Wouldn't be without it.I am insured up the wazoo. I'd be a good person to kill, would make my wife very financially comfortable. Cheers Grant

This is also on-topic Maybe because I have nothing from that long ago to compare, but I have been to hospital once myself, have been twice during the birth of our two boys, and then once when our oldest boy got a bad case of Bronchialitis. I have found that the healthcare system not not be all doom and gloom. When I went for myself (a few years ago now), I stumped up and went privately (as I would have been put on a waiting list for a long time - as it was nothing too urgent, just damned painful). The level of care I received privately was very good (but costly - essentially $6k for a small operation and a nights stay). Both our kids were born at Auckland hospital within the last two years. On both occassions the births were not 100% straight forward, and involved more than just the midwife during labour. On both occassions we were very impressed with all aspects of the facilities, the specialists we saw, and care my wife received. When Ash (our oldest kid) got really sick, and the A&E told us to take him straight to Starship we did so. It was late on a Sunday night. Starship was brilliant, and did their best throughout our visit (thankfully we didn't have to stay) to make it comfortable. The two doctors we saw were extremely good, their diagnosis was correct (whereas the GP at the A&E had made an incorrect one, and prescribed the incorrect medicine) and Ash's recovery was exactly as they said it would be. Also, at Starship they discovered a hole in Ash's heart. Subsequently he had to spend another day at Auckland hospital at a later date with him to have a heap of tests, be ssen too by specialists etc. Again we were happy with the level of care and impressed by the medical professionals we dealt with. I think that the whole medical field is a damned tricky one. I guess when we move to the US later in the year, I will be able to make comparisons - however over there medical insurance is required, and their is no such thing a "free" healthcare like there is here. This is a very interesting topic, and one that I think can be debated about forever (and probably will be). I really don't think that there is a magic answer, and that any government, no matter what party is in power will be able to resolve - especially in a small first world country like NZ, where we don't have the economies of scale that I think (I may be completely wrong) are required to have an exceptional "free" healthcare system. Cheers Grant

Got mine yesterday from Ollie. Again, a big thanks to Ollie for sorting this out for all of us. He went above and beyond the call of duty, and it is greatly appreciated. Cheers Grant

This is completely off topic, but on the topic of which professions are more worthwhile than others. I'm a Management and Project Consultant - now that is a profession that is truly worthless. I charge to tell people how to do the things they already do (albeit I might change the way in which they do things), or manage the things that they are too lazy/busy to do for themselves!! I enjoy it though, I get to meet and work with all sorts of people. Cheers Grant

Same with me, and some posts are 12 hours out (i.e posted tomorrow morning, already) Cheers Grant

ShelleyI find this post rather contradictory from your earlier one. In the post I have quoted you are all for "immigrant" doctors as they are cheaper, yet in your earlier post, in your normal uneducated white trash rhetoric, you were saying that all immigrants should be sent home (or something similar). I'm afraid you can't have it both ways. Cheers Grant
