    ABS on/off

Hi Dave. Because we are using words such as 'road', this would be some hypothetical stuff on what might be expected if the ABS electrical system were to be maybe switched off for 'off-road use'....... Wiring diagram, multi-meter, side-cutters, extra wiring & switch in right place nets a non-abs system that should be able to be turned off & on whilst the vehicle is stationary. When system is switched 'off', ABS light on dash should be glowing.............its highly likely any traction control systems will also be deactivated though at the same time. (All this depends a bit on how its exactly wired up, & in which sequence by the vehicle manufacturer, but basic principals apply across all ABS systems). Pedal feel / response will be same as usual, right up to the point of wheel lock-up under braking.......... ### Please note - I do not advocate the vehicle being used on-road with a switch in the ABS system. Any switch fitted, needs to be done in such a way as to be easily removable before the vehicle gets used again on any legal road. In the event of a crash occurring on-road, its likely any / all insurance companies will dishonour any claim being made if it can be proven the vehicle's braking system is not as per OE manufacturer........ While on the subject - On some vehicles on some surfaces, you may find using wheel chains on one axle only (in the case of front, or rear wheel drive vehicles) may lead to ABS equipped vehicles having their ABS system throw a 'hissy fit', leaving you with no brakes...........

    E34 M5's

Lols - cheers for that. Not exactly an old Landcruiser - common rail injection too, 32 valves, variable turbo, V-8 diesel, sees it being as tempermental on fuel quality as any other new diesel, BMW included.Whilst it's no slouch for a 4WD, my E34 definitely uses less fuel!!!! I'll go google up difference on 'M', M3, M5........
  3. Yummy!!! Looks sleek, & bit mean too, in a subtle sort of way........
  4. Hi there. Can I ask what the reasoning is behind wanting to change what probably works fine at the moment oil wise for you?? For me, many years ago with both diesel & petrol motors of various types, I had nothing but hassles with Mobil oils, that were 'supposidely' suitable for the application - I've used nothing bar Castrol oils since, problem free, on anything from motorbikes upwards...... A good friend of mine switched to Mobil 1 on some of his stuff - his verdict was it was a bit like the oil was too good or too high tech really........... Just my 2c worth........ If its not broken.............
  5. You should get your rims before me I reckon - I keep seeing ya asking questions on rims I like too on trademe - cracks me up bigtime.........

    E34 M5's

Hi. Given I know not much bout BMW's - there wasn't a E34 V8 'M' spec was there?? From whats listed here, I'm taking it as not - all were 6 cylinders?? Next 'dumb' question - did M series get both narrow & wide grille versions, depending on year of build or just narrow grille only?? Bit off topic, but I seen a late model diesel BMW in town yesterday, wearing 'M' badging - I assume its Trademe badging.....??? (as to me, 'M' on a diesel is a bit like me putting TRD badges on my Landcruiser.......)
  7. Good on ya - nice looking line-up. Its quite kool really when you think all were made in Germany before dispatch to various parts of the world, & have now all found themselves at your place from where they were originally. Pics of 850 sometime too maybe.......?? Cheers.
  8. Lols - I was just a kid - must have made a impact somewhere somehow in me though, haha.... Useless Monday night trivia continues - in terms of Crumpy's books - for all the 'hard living womanising bush man' that he was, across all the books he wrote there was never any swearing / foul language.........
  9. That's amazing, both the vehicle & camera skills!! Looks just perfect really........... Classy, & classic, & very VERY coooooooooooooooooool!
  10. As far as NZ made ads for NZ, it doesn't get much better than this for me - the original Hilux ad, made in 1982ish with facelift RN 46 model. Why, in my opinion?? - It combined 2 x iconic kiwis, with a major vehicle importer, advertising something that quickly became a legend in rural NZ. - It was 'real world' filming - no special effects etc...... - looking back at it now, it gives insight into how much NZ has changed since then. As much as its very un-pc now, there's no seatbelts, we're smoking, there's a rifle in the rear window........& I bet they had fun making it...... This, set the precedent for Toyota 4WD advertising & marketing in NZ.........
  11. Kool unit there - looks straight as a die in those pics!!!!! The wagons are growing on me........lots!
  12. By doing continuity tests on the wires, each end. Open circuit / no continuity = broken wire........
  13. Thanks Michael & Paul - I agree with what you're both saying there. Much as I like the shadow trims, there's high odds it'll stay with it's chrome bits intact - been washed today on top of the bling bits polish, and looks gooood!!!! I'm cursing all the pollen around at the mo, grrrrr!!!!!!! Seems to even get inside the shed!! Stolen off the internet, as per below is probably fairly close to what I see it evolving into over time......subject to money etc.......haha!
  14. Sounds good!! I'm much the same, my original stereo is staying intact in it & unmolested too. On my vehicles, I make the ciggy lighter outlets 'hot' all the time - that way ya can lock it up while in town but still leave phone or mp3 player charging up......... Even with stuff not working, you've gotta be glad it's not English with 'Lucas prince of darkness wiring' factory installed....... A good multi-meter, test light, & patience can be worthwhile on tracking leckky stuff....
  15. Umm, hate to point this out, but my people have had a vote, & they reckon one of these things is 'wrong' to know....."The guy with the bad breath and the Australian accent is actually the Manager, David." As a hint - you need to be standing at least 1m further back.........
  16. My bad - I'm gonna stick up for Campbell Live - In my opinion its the duck's nuts over the last 18 months or so!! Before that, was fairly arrogant & more his own opinion more than letting guests etc get out what they were there to say. He's gained a LOT of respect from me, for the work that they have done in Chch in terms of batting for people there that have been reamed stupid by insurance companies & EQC since the quakes........ The bank ad, (or whatever it is......!!!!!) where theres those couple of gumbooters on a laneway, & that retarded donkey humper rocks up dribbling crap........I can't stand it...........dunno why its soooo bad, but I just hate it!!
  17. Spells lots better than 'Cercut guy' though............
  18. Brent - that E34 in top pic in the background - its on Alpina's??? Got any more pics.....& whats the spoiler off please........??? Jug - sounds like a short list so far on it..............
  19. So, being just a bit of a country-boy really, that 'doesn't like BMW's', it's probably easy to understand that I don't like chrome. Never have. Never will. On a vehicle, it's right up there with alloy - its about as handy as a ashtray on a motorbike / milk bucket under a bull sorta thing. Like, I'm not a magpie, so I'm just not into shiney blingy things, especially chrome & alloy. (Because, once again - I don't like chrome ). I've even brought new vehicles, & gone "Yea mate, lets get rid of all that chrome $hit before I pick it up ae" (Because, once again - I don't like chrome ). "Hey, those alloy wheels there on that ute - how bout ya rip the buggers off, & get em powder-coated satin black for me - then it'll look gooood! (Because, once again - I don't like chrome, or alloy ). "Yea, nah - hey how bout we just order up some black ARB bull-bars for it I reckon, those stupid looking alloy bars are for Queen Street or a builder's ute, & this ain't that sorta thing" (Because, once again - I don't like chrome, or alloy ). Yea, well that alloy stuff, it's only good as a beer can mate........which probably explains why I prefer Woodstock, umm from a bottle... (Because, once again - I don't like chrome, or alloy ). Anyway, having brought my mid-life crisis car, it appears Germans of that era had some sorta weird fixation with chrome. Oh yay!! Right, all the chrome on this thing is going AWOL - its outa here big time!!! I'm on reTard Me, looking at black out grilles, trying to find ways to de-chrome around the doors, windows & in general, hey lets just get rid of all that shiny $hit, like FFS - even the poxy towbar tongue has been chromed on my little blue beast....... So, that Autosol chrome polish I brought the other day - great stuff I reckon...........few spare hours tonight out in the shed, oh babey - looks even more smick now than what it did!! Coup-de-grace on the whole scenario - I brought one of those STUPID shiny tow-ball covers too - I'm sooooooooo soon gonna be needing to have a wee lay down on a soft couch & be talking all this through with some-one in a white coat..... "Yes Dr, it's blue - its a BMW, I like it, & yea, it looks ok with all its shiny bits......"
  20. Yea, cheers - that's sorta my thoughts too really!! Like, if it was a MX-5 (or a Porsche) with a 25 year old blonde seat-cover, then yes, I'd accept it's maybe looking like I've brought a mid-life crisis car...... (her 'thoughts' on it maybe being so lost a bit of steam when a couple of days later its being suggested that her 23 yr old son should maybe buy it off me, for what I paid for it, so he can then do nasty things to it more suited to whizz-bang ricers - umm, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
  21. Seriously, there's a whole new breed of car owner out there that just knows NOTHING...........the kind that maybe have slip-on shoes due to not being able to tie shoe-laces...... Good thing there's some helpful souls that are prepared to gently steer them in the right direction with kind words, group hugs, & tact by the truckload...... "wow you managed to list it as a convertible, a model that doesn't exist, and a 0cc engine. Ill help you out, this is a 518i, not a B51. and its not a convertable, but has a 1800cc engine..." http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-626152567.htm Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Well done - certainly looks tidy in the TM pics........funny how there's usually always a feeling of 'excitement' or anticipation on getting something 'new', that's not really new at all - koool car there!! Brent - that 'hearse' of yours, its let down a bit by those daggy hucky looking out of style old rims you've got under the poor thing I reckon. When ya get something new & stylish for it, I could probably force myself to throw a bit of cash & a coupla dozen brewski's your way in order for you not to have to put up with them anymore....
  23. Pics before & after the event will be great..............
  24. Bar the condom thickness tyres - that's just gagging for a beating at a closed circuit somewhere that has a combo of twistys & wide open spaces......... Then refuel - repeat above...........
  25. Sweet ride you've got there!! Looks amazingly tidy - how many kms has it done.......?? Funny how they conjure up 'a list' of things to do, bits to buy / bling slightly......... Cheers.
