  1. nice one. for some reason i thought the evo's had the red ignition leads, does it have red seat belts?

Incorrect, Sport Evos have red leads. Also this car isnt a Evo.

    Great looking car though, congrats.

Ive guessing its Jap spec? Basically European spec but with no dogleg gearbox?

  2. Isn't there not really such a thing really? Just a marketing term for an e36 with MS options? And at what point do the amount of options make it cross the line to be a 'motorsport?'

As much so as a E30 325 Motorsport. As I said, you cant tell either a E30 325 Motorsport or an E36 318is Motorsport from the VIN.

But a real E36 Motorsport (318is) are late 1997's-1998 and have:

    - Motorsport body kit (no M3 mirrors)

    - Motorsport suspension

    - Staggered Style 32 wheels

    - Black leather with Motorsport stripes

    - Clear indicators

    - Twin airbags

    - Dual climate air

They are pretty easy to spot.

  3. black hoodlinings a good start

The NZ new (but SA built) E36 318is Motorsport has a grey hoodlining.

IMO these are the only real E36 Motorsport models (other than M3's) in New Zealand, and a simular concept to E30 325 Motorsport (yet both cars cant be defined by a VIN).

  4. hi , i would like your help to ID a car i just brought . Long story short when i picked the car up today, its got motorsport badges all over it , wing morriors , boot spoiler , leather interior. Is there a way to tell the defferance from a geniuine one to a fake .

    thanks

Are you talking E36 318is Motorsport?

  5. it's interesting to see that most come with the style 32 rims.... i see this one has the standard set up rims with same size rim front and rear, where as mine came with a staggered rim arrangement, with 17 x7 on the front and 17 x8 on rear.... it makes me laugh when i think about it though, a little 1.9L motor with huge 255's on for traction.... maybe someday when i win lotto it will get the power plant to match the tyres :P

The car in the above link has staggered Style 32's. All these cars do.

Also your car should be running 245's on the rear, not 255's.

And yes, these cars have Motorsport suspension including Bilstein dampers.

  6. Head of Marketing and Sales for the M Division has confirmed today there is no production planned for 2012. He seems to leave the door open a bit, but suggests nothing has been confirmed yet.

Fantastic interview well worth a listen

Whos to say that "we" doesnt mean the US market.

I was told by the local BMW dealer on Saturday that a number (30? I cant reallt recall the correct number) will be coming into NZ next year.

  7. Have this one for sale at $8500.

One of 16 J Clayton brought in from SA. Fully M Speced in 4 different colours named after race tracks ie. Macau, Avus,Dakkar etc..

    My son has another one.

Those numbers have to incorrect dont they Ray?

Other versions of numbers of NZ new 318is Motorsport is 50, 10 of 5 different colours, but that has to be incorrect as well because these are the colours Ive seen in NZ:

    Fiji Green

    Apline White

    Dakar Yellow

    Bright Red

    Arctic Silver

    Techno Violet

    Cosmos Black

    Boston Green

    Avus Blue

Does anyone know the correct numbers/colours that were imported new into NZ?

  8. really nice in the blue mate. Looks in good nick too.

    porsche KKK turbo & brakes

    audi 5 pot.

    so much win.

Yip, the final evolution of the real Audi 5 pot, 4.8 seconds to 100km/h and a limited speed of 262km/h. My brother hates it when I tell him my car is faster than his E39 M5 ;) Both cars delimited Im sure it would be a different story though.

  9. really nice car mate. Best colour IMO.

    How's your RS2 ? got a pic of that?

does it still go okay? they are pretty rare these days. They were off the scale back in the day.

My dad had a S4 but there was an RS2 down the road and it was super quick!

I love my RS2. Next month Ive owned it for 3 years, and honestly everytime it gets on boost I have a giggle to myself.

They are very rare, only 180 RHD built (of about a 2000 total), 14 were sold new in NZ at around $180,000 back in 1995.

Here is a pic of the RS2:
