Hmm, if thats the case, why does the engine bay look like it was factory black?

Topaz is obvious in the engine bay

Topaz is a WAY better colour than black.

Either that, or it’s had chassis numbers changed....... which is also possible

Bmw vin decoder doesn’t generally lie about the colour

have pulled the engine down ready to be rebuilt aswell! bit had some shiny bits arrive for it yesterday ??‍♂️

not sure if it’s going to be e36 or e46 based yet, we have both sitting here. Might just be a matter of how we feel on the day of making engine mounts

will be a street legal track weapon, aiming for a solid 600whp

I was going with the new consensus of posting what the hell you like, as long as you are not offended, it was only a joke, I didn't break any rules, moderation needs to be relaxed, etc. Too much too soon?

I was going to just go with just a "Ok boomer" as we were at emoji level, but thought that a little crass, so expanded a little to give it some context.

So is that not the new behaviour that everybody wants, I'm so confused, if people could only make their mind up or at least be consistent that would be great.

no Jon, it's just again that you expect differently from others than you do of yourself i feel. and your "Ok boomer" attitude clearly shows this. Jon, maybe it's time you stepped aside for awhile if you are a little confused to give you time to gather your thoughts?

as a community are we not allowed to call those that are "superior" out for acting in ways that they ? or is this turning into a dictatorship?

Again, like multiple people have highlighted. This forum needs new leadership, and some new moderators.

On the contrary, it has stimulated some robust discussion and some valid points have been raised.

isn't it just unfortunate that it has taken "sh*t to hit the fan" for things to start (hopefully) rolling again? i am pretty sure that some of the stuff that's been happening was never intended in the intent of bimmersport and maybe people need to loosen up a bit and try and find the good ole days?

Has anyone heard from Ollie recently? multiple emails and calls still lead to no avail on contacting him

How many of those 300 Mannheim rentals actually had bids on them or even sold?

I take it you are referring to one of the Mannheim dealer only auctions, not public auctions? Not many used car dealers out there feeling flush and buying up cars at the moment that’s for sure.

One ex-rental auction in the recent past sold one car, with very few bids on anything. It’s one thing to try and sell but another to find a buyer that will meet the reserve.

The fact that these cars pass through a number of sets of hands before ending up with someone driving it away also delays the supply into the market, and every one is trying to make a dollar on the way through.

Longer the cars sit, with money tied up in them, then the asking price will slowly drop as people want them shifted, but takes time.

The area of the market trying to move cars on right now are the direct importers from Japan, as they had cars on the yard and on the way when lockdown hit, so they are well over stocked. Lots of “Sales” and offers in this part of the market.

believe it or not, some of the yards we deal with have had issues getting cars. Those shipments that were en route from japan have all been delayed and/or canceled! a couple of the yards are screaming for cars as they are nearly sold dry currently. you can say this is about "stock control" as above, but when the main source of stuck gets cut off from the rest of the world uhhh yeah, things begin to slow down! hence the reason why i'm not totally convinced that all these rental cars are going to have a "massive effect" on the prices, but will certainly influence it to some degree. Another thing to be thinking about, is those car yards that are importing from japan are generally importing cars that are in a different market to those that the rental companies have. in search of a better term, but those cars that are being imported from japan are *generally speaking*  more of a "not your standard toyota yaris" kind of car

As for the Mannheim auction, it was a dealers only auction and a fair amount of them actually sold! People still need cars, yet dealers are having trouble sourcing cars so they will buy whatever they can at the moment.

there are so many different variable that different car yards are going to be dealing with, but generally speaking it sounds like there has been pretty slim pickings on what they've been able to get their hands on for a few months now

  8. A vast majority of rental cars are on lease contracts.

mitsubishi have taken back well over 2000 cars back from rental companies breaking leases, and I believe Toyota are doing the same.

there are multiple rental companies who are selling bulk lots off through auctions. There was like 300 ex rentals up for auction in manheim last week.

so, In short..... yes the car market is going to be flooded very shortly. I don’t think they will be “dirt cheap” but they are definitely going to be cheaper than the majority of the same cars on the current market

we deal with several car yards down here in chch and they have all said they are expecting huge numbers of cars coming up forsale in the next months. And some have even been approached by Toyota and Mitsubishi to buy ex lease cars

I have never thought Politics or Religion discussions should be allowed on this Automotive Forum. There are other discussion groups on the internet where you can express your views. There needs to be an adjustment of the Forum Rules section on a number of subjects. These are in need of an upgrade

the biggest issue i see is no-one wants to take responsibility for anything. Multiple times i have spoken to different admins about things and its all "speak to this person", or "speak to that person". No-one really seems to know whats going on or who is really running things  and you end up in a loop getting nowhere.

Biggest and best thing that could happen to this forum is having an ***active*** owner involved, someone who is going to stand-up and take responsibility. Not knocking the admins for what they do but i think things would be alot better if there was some more direction and more information/help available when requested

    Interesting thread...

    • On approx. 17th of April my post and messaging privileges on the site were removed by @BreakMyWindow without cause or explanation, the whole site became read-only to me. I still do not have access to PM's at all (read or send).
    • A few days later (approx 20 April) my two vehicle posts (M3 and 130i - as per my signature) became unavailable to all users, logged in to BS or not. They are still unavailable. (this may have happened at the same time as my read-only ban, I didn't check at the time)
    • On approx 25 April I used the 'contact us' message to the site admins to ask what was going on. I received no acknowledgement or reply.
    • Nobody told me I was banned, nobody told me why I was banned, nobody told me I was unbanned and nobody told me why they hid/deleted/removed my vehicle threads (not all my threads, just those two in particular). A great deal of respect shown there.

Look, I hold out hope that all this was a mistake and monumental cock-up but the lack of engagement and follow-up really makes me wonder. Regardless, I'm happy to leave if people want me to leave but it seems like an abuse of power to me, some accountability would be respected.

I may have rubbed some people up the wrong way in my time (unapologetic) but I've been a meaningful and (mostly) positive contributor here for nearly two decades and I had two really valuable threads that were internationally respected. If this is how the BS staff want to treat their loyal user base then I'm happy to move on, just say it out loud.

Unless the situation is explained properly and my threads are restored I'm wondering why I should even bother. Hence the lack of recent contribution. The ball is in Bimmersport's court.

Thanks for standing in my corner @sweetm3.

    The funny thing here Dave.......

it’s not the first time something like this has happened. I believe a similar thing happened to another extremely valuable member of the forum several years back.

maybe there needs to be a changing of the guard?

Wooweee!!! That’s a lot! I should look at increasing my insurance on mine then. At $17,500  it won’t be replacing sweet f.a!

Give you $18000 tonight to save you the issue?
will also save you the drama of installing those electric windows ???
