  1. Hey Suresh, what horsepower do you have at the moment, and what do you hope to get once you do the turbos?
  2. I love meguiars, and the story on how the company became successful is pretty cool too. If you use the separate mequiars wash and waxes you will get an even better result.
  3. Zimbabwe88 - There have been two main pieces of advice in this thread; (A) chuck in a cheap used auto trans. or (B)do an engine and trans swap with the m54 I have in my parts car. I cant afford the money or time to do the m54 swap, much though I would prefer it. So I will be buying a cheap used auto to swap in, and while I try and scrape some money together to buy one I am flushing the one I have to get a month or two's usage out of it. I already had bought a bunch of parts (the day before the trans crapped out ironically) to do some planned maintenance on my car, so am doing them at the same time where it makes sense to do so. I really DO value the advice from the community. I even had one member (who I had never met in person) offer to come and look at the car the very next day. I've had offers of free or discounted parts, and another forum member has spent several days helping, including driving to Albany to pick up parts while I'm at work. This community has really blown me away
  4. Neal, that amp is pretty damn rare now. Very nice.
  5. So new engine sump gasket went on tonight. Engine and sump was cleaner than I thought, although I did find a bolt rolling around in the bottom of the sump. Anyone know what torque setting for the sump bolts? The internets is giving me conflicting information.
  6. I just dont have a spare $800 for a trans at the moment, and I need a car to carry me and my tools to work in the meantime. If replacing the fluid and filter fixes the problem, even just for the short term, then well and good. If it doesnt then I'm in trouble till I can afford another box. In the meantime the trans and torque convertor has been cleaned with trans fluid, and the trans valve body unit has been disassembled and is sitting in a bucket of trans fluid with the solenoids etc, ready for reassembly. Trans was suprisingly clean inside apart from the milkshakey oil, with no burn marks or particles on the magnet. Today I also replaced the fuel filter and hoses on the car as it was due - the old filter was very dirty. I also undid the engine sump from the block ready to put on the new sump gasket, but had to go out before I could put the new one on. If I get a month or two out of the trans I will be happy. Even though the transmission rubber donut looked fine, should it be replaced?
  7. Wheel and tyre gone. Seats still here.

Hey Amber, your photography is really coming along nicely. Each shoot you do gets better and better.
  9. Ok, so yesterday we pulled the transmission, and what a mission. We pulled the exhaust, heat sheild, and driveshaft. Had to disconnect some of the rear subframe mounting to get the driveshaft off the diff, and then discovered that it just disconnects at the back of the transmission. Some of the bellhousing bolts were really hard to access, especially when I dont have a workshop pit or a lift in my backyard. Anyway eventually got the transmission out with the help of Conor from the forums. He took some pics so hopefully he will put some up on this thread. The transmission was a milkshake inside. We flushed it by hand with transmission fluid twice, but we will do it again a few more times before it goes back in the car with its new filter and sump gasket. The torgue converter will get the same treatment. I degreased and waterblasted everything that we removed (not inside the trans or torque converter obviously), and the entire underbody of the car. Today I replace the fuel filter and the engine sump gasket as part of regular mantenance I had planned. I will also replace the short fuel hoses on the fuel filter, and do an engine oil and filter change. All the cooling system has been completely dismantled and flushed. Even so, I will run a radiator flush through it anyways once it is back together. All the suspension bushings, mountings, and the rubber donut on the back of the transmission looked in good condition - is there anything else I should change while I'm under there? Hopefully the transmission lasts long enough for me to save up for a replacement. Money is very tight so I will be selling the bits off my parts car, including the engine and box, so if anybody wants to help out by buying some parts let me know. I think I will explore using a seperate oil cooler to prevent this headache happening again - can anyone give advice on where/how to mount it, what one to buy, and what fittings to use? Thanks to all the advice and support.
  10. That was my point. We need to know percentages to be accurate.
  11. Depends on the amp. If its class D then it shouldnt be a problem. Class D will be fine to power a sub, but sounds pants on the rest of the speakers. I would use class AB for the other speakers, but class AB does get alot hotter. I prefer to have the amps closer to the battery, rather than closer to the speakers.
  12. Good guess. Yes, out of all tourists it is Australian tourists who cause the most crashes on our roads.
  13. The B25 is deregistered - I bought it off the owner after it was written off by his insurance due to a shunt to the rear. Its purely a parts car.
  14. Thanks heaps brent - you have pm
  15. Yea, first time pulling a trans on a beemer. As far as flushing them out, I'm not really sure - maybe trans oil in a squirter bottle? What would you suggest? I hear these boxes can be damaged by using the wrong oil, so I will have to investigate the correct fluid. Thanks for your advice.
  16. Let the lady drive what the lady wants. A happy wife is a happy life.....
  17. Here is something you might find interesting; Q) Which country's tourists are involved in the most crashes on our roads, where they are at fault?
  18. No. The data already existed, but National didn't act on it. They only acted after being pressured, and even then they delayed it by over two years with excuses of needing more data. and yes I am a cynic and a conspirator but I think life is actually pretty simple and when you question and put common sense to most things its actually pretty obvious. human nature will never change the world is full of sheep and the strong always want to control the weak masses, I do question everything and am probably glass half full mentality, but a realist. the fact that most people in the world follow some/any religion confirms how easily led people are. knowing how badly the press behave the police manager was probably grossly misquoted anyway. I am very much anti drink driving and have lost close friends because of it, I certainly don't have a mantra about anything and if my ideals are shown to be wrong in a convincing way I'm more than happy to change views but they have to make common sense to me first. I just wish people actually stopped and considered how much authority lies to them It's good to question everything, but not to ignore everything otherwise you never learn anything. The person who believes every single thing they hear is just as bad as the person who ignores everything they hear.
  19. So ran out of daylight tonight, but will finish off getting the trans out in the weekend. There is not much info online on getting an auto out of a n42/n46. Plenty on six cylinders and manuals though lols. I've realized I will have to pull the exhaust off, and pull the driveshaft off at the diff end and then slide it out the back of the trans. Everything else is ready to go though. I'm considering putting new fluid and filter in the box after its had a thorough clean, and see if it will work. If so that saves alot of money, and if not, I'm only out the cost of the fluid. With the box out I can replace the engine sump gasket far more easily which was on my list to do anyway. I have a new fuel filter to go in too, and a new oil level sensor seal which is just preventative maintenance. Any other things I should be replacing in there while access is pretty easy? I have nearly new radiator / water pump / thermostat / water hoses, and engine oil cooler was done about 30k ago. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  20. The problem being I wont know what condition the used one will be in. Its definitely an option though. Trying to get the trans out at the moment and its proving a challenge.
  21. Man, you guys are awesome - you've really cheered me up. So today, seeing as I couldn't get to work anyway I striped out all the cooling system parts and washed them out. The transmission cooler and its lines had the same milkshake in it that the cooling system did, so I'm pretty sure it was a transmission oil cooler fail. My plan atm is to take out the transmission and either rebuild it or replace it, replace the oil cooler, and get the car back on the road. I will use the oil cooler off my parts car for the time being, but as soon as I have some spare cash I will replace it for a new one, as I don't want to go through this again. How easy/hard is it to replace the necessary parts in a transmission? Obviously I will be doing filter and oil anyway. Thanks for all the pm's of support, and offers of parts and help.
  22. Nothing else missing from the parts car except I completely butchered the wiring loom in the cabin.
