So here are some photos of my 296,000k S30B32 And here is a sad dual VANOS unit .. the main seal is junk.. split and ruined .. someone had been in there before and somehow forgot the main 3.5inch circlip which is supposed to hold in the seal Yuck !

Just dropped off the old girl to get the VANOS unit replaced. I picked up a second hand unit a while back from a member here who imported a s50b32 for a race car with relatively low kms. Since it was a race car, he ditched the VANOS. Apparently my VANOS is stuff (according to a few experienced people who have driven it recently), which was not really noticeable to me since I never had much time (or any really) in a s50b32 with working VANOS. I was happy with the power, and power delivery, but I suppose I was just enjoying a 3.2L high comp engine. Will be interesting to see the results (if infact the vanos was pooped) and any torque increases under 4k rpm where the vanos is supposed to help will jsut be a bonus after owning the car since last year!

I have HID on my e36. Aftermarket housings and lenses with the proper cutoffs designed for RHD. a HID kit in the stock housings will not work and have a lot of flare. HIDs should have nice clear cutoff lines - dipping towards the right and up towards the left with little glare in the transition. my headlight housings are marked with RHD extruded into the plastic cover. the front is glass etc. Only running on lowbeam as HID takes time to power up to working intensity, and therefore if youre driving country roads and often high beam off and on depending on oncoming traffic etc, halogens have an almost instant response .. running HID on high beam is not as useful due to the warm up time. (there might be new tech, but thats what I know from when I got mine).

. I wish they made contours in 18" Good luck with sale!
-
hey Kyu what condition are the contours?

i appreciate your intent to get the noise down. I have an aftermarket system and it sounds great. But I've lost the 'luxury-esque' nature of the bmw! But it does sound great on full noise.

s50b32 dyno results....... advice wanted :(
handgrenade replied to Arron's topic in General Discussion
Does anyone have a dyno graph of a healthy s50b32 engine with the VANOS enabled and working, and also with the VANOS disabled? I would be interested to see the difference between what would just be a 3.2L high comp engine, versus the same engine with BMWs tech added. -
Hi, does anyone know anyone in NZ (preferably Auckland) who can re-cover/re-surface/re-face/rebuild clutch plates? Specifically twin plate clutch plates? New ones cost a fortune :/ Cheers

ah my bad. then the custom s85 into an e46 was a real custom job then!! I remember seeing the e30 build with the twins - some nice fabrication work .. never did see the finished product though!

Hrm well, it would come down to an offer I couldn't refuse - sent you a PM.

Hartge made these from factory - e46 coupe with a m5 v10. They were called the H50 and only 10 ever made/sold according to the interweb ... they commanded a pretty exorbitant price (Hartge being a BMW accredited tuning company like AC Schnitzer, being able to sell brand new cars and all the mods with the factory warranties etc). I know of one more which was custom made by Hartge as a one off .. I am still trying to convince the owner to let me buy it but there is apparently a fairly long list of people who have already put their names down if it ever goes up for sale.

Hahaha - not BMW. 96 Lancer GSR manual 1.8 Turbo. Reliable and fun to drive Could be more interesting and a bit different from the normal BMW stable .. although it is probably a little more $ than you're after? Depends on how you want it. I can get a new WOF and Rego on it, tidy up the stereo and exhaust etc. Or you could take it as is, and do that work yourself. Passed last warrant with no issues (but that warrant ran out a few months ago). Has been neglected on account of my Evo5

Drove it Had some fun with a stillen tuned 370z Difficult to imagine how the car would run with a functioning VANOS system .. Ray says its like night and day. Can't wait!

Suresh, just took a quick look at the Vargas Stg2+ Turbos .. Looks like they're using MHI tech - Mitsubishi TD04 frames and various Mitsubishi compressor and turbine wheels (which is awesome because imo, they are one of the best) here is a link to a compressor flow map for the 19T wheel .. theyre pretty large and flow a lot of air!!! http://www.stealth316.com/images/td04h-19t-cfm.gif the 20t is usually estimated at 10% more flow than the 19t but I can't find a compressor map. mostly used on the 3L Mitsi GTO as an aftermarket option. opinions are that the 19t does have some issues. suggest going for a 20t and perhaps clipping the turbine if youre going for all out power

I could be tempted to sell mine, except no one would buy it with 293kms on it Oh and the wood trim.

bump, going on trademe -
wow. makes it seem a rebuild looks easy. oh to be in that factory, with full access .. seeing them pick up and slot in a 4k vanos unit

Where did he eventually set his dyno up? i believe the last time I spoke to him, he was using dyno time at a place out west ..
-
Kyu, the arm rest is one of the best mods ive made to my car (maybe cupholders second haha)
-
I suggest that you don't use a 'plug and play' chip. Some people have had experiences here where they have lost power in doing so. a dyno tune is definitely the best idea. The amount of time on the dyno, combined with the tuners time, and any potential ecu modifications, will see you at maybe 1000-1200$$. There are other facilities and workshops which can offer a dyno tune and the same services if you can't get hold of Gavin. The times I have called him, he has been fairly responsive. From the last time I spoke to him, he was setting up his new shop and getting his dyno gear out of storage.

E46 Jamex Adjustables for less than $500?
handgrenade replied to handgrenade's topic in TradeMe discussions
hey andy, yeah i thought just as much but isnt that the case with a lot or most coil over suspension? that to lower the ride height, you compress the spring?? i ran HSD coilovers in my skyline - found them the best, as they were platform adjustable - the spring rate and the preload on the spring was independent of the ride height adjustment. -
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/suspension-braces/auction-899886340.htm how legit is this?!

I was lucky enough to be part of that BMW drivers day
