Sucks to see another one off the road ?
-
Had a wee dabble at the drags last night for the first time. Had alot of fun! It was the 2nd to last round for the season so I was fortunate to be able to do pass after pass without any queues or interruption. Managed to do 10 passes and we still hadn't got into the competitive side of it. From the get go I was surprised at the time I was getting. At a guess I thought I'd be into the high 13's but after the first pass I was left red faced with a 14.8 After about 5 passes I was starting to get the hang of the staging process, getting traction, not bogging down, not worrying about the person next to me, gears etc. A mate text me (just happens to be this guy... https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12314779. He cut his teeth on racing Hondas at this track, so I knew i could trust his advice) and said to drop the rear tyre pressure to 15psi. Lo and behold, I managed to basically shave half a second by leaving the line at higher revs and get a personal best of 14.2. Next time (28th of March) I want to be able to get to the 13s. The above mentioned mate said he'll lend me some proper wheels, perks of the early Hondas and the e30 having the same stud pattern! I'll also take out the sub, spare tyre in an attempt to shave a 0.1 or so off. All in all, heaps of fun and I was stoked the motor/diff/cooling swap stood up to the evening at Meremere.

Thanks for that Nick! I see what you mean. The G240 stays in then. As @polley said, it should be strong enough. @polley was this turbo M50 in an e30? Either way, do you have a thread on the build?
-
Remembered that I had another G240 sitting under the workbench. Although its from an early M40 E36 I'm fairly sure it's the same as the G240 that came with my FL M40 E30. Thought I'd pull it out and have a comparison. The G240 (mucky one on the left) weighs in wet at 33kgs and the G260 wet is 35kgs. Mounting heoles with the gear selectors at the 12 o'clock position seem to be almost identical to the point where I can't see a difference in angle. Hard to show in pictures without a bit of parallax error. I know that there were different versions of the 260 box released, could this be compatible with the 24 valve engines? Regarding strength, I've sent Kayne Barrie a message to see if he could shed some light ? Have both driveshafts.

That completely slipped my mind.

Hi all, Wondering if anyone has any real world expertise on these gearboxes. I have an E30 with a 240 in it at the moment and a 260 sitting in the shed. The ratios seem to be very similar so i think the only advantage would be the strength aspect. Has anyone actually had a look into the internals of these boxes? Is the 260 actually stronger? Is it worth pulling the 240 and replacing it with the 260?

Congrats on the purchase and hopefully you never have to use the warranty!

That price sounds about right. I'd ring Autosure though just to see what they charge. Initial cost is one thing, but willingness to pay out is another. I had a mechanical warranty with Protecta and it was like pulling teeth to have the broken timing chain covered on a VQ Nissan engine. Ended up being a battle lasting over 6 months, threatening lawyer/CGA action, reports on timing chain longevity etc etc. Apparently (I think there was a thread on here) Autosure are more inclined to accept claims.

I bought a 2nd hand starter as a part of my trouble shooting (I didn't want to pay the $300 excess if it ended up being something inexpensive) and the gasket happened at another time and another excess. Same thing with coils.

Depends if you fancy yourself a gambler. When we bought our E91 (N52B25), we went with a 3 year 3rd party mechanical cover by the well known company (can't recall the name). Looking back I wish we risked it. We've had to have it serviced by a recognised workshop that foots a bill of around $400 annually. The servicing is average at best and only the oil + filter is changed. On top of that you have the initial cost ~$1500 + excess $400. Over the 3 years you'll roughly spend $2700 on the above not incl excess if you claim. I've had to replace all the coils (at separate times), cam cover gasket and starter. These jobs weren't big enough to justify claiming and paying excess so are on top of the $2700. We won't be renewing the cover, hopefully that doesn't bite me... Touching wood.

Managed to make it out to a small E30 meet after work.

This sort of thing definitely tickles the suspicious side of me and screams shill bidding. Auction had met reserve but the top two bidders have both pulled out? Owner offers a fixed price. Hopefully no one from here was genuinely interested.
-
Yea what they sold for is irrelevant to any other LTW in my opinion. Factors driving the price up would be that it was for charity and they are ex-PW. I hope this hasn't given false hope to Joe Bloggs LTW owner.

I personally don't see the appeal of them. I understand they're ~250kW go carts but even then, I'd rather buy other appreciating BMW models with similar factory power figures for less money. Personally I'd rather a FL E46/92 M3.

Hallway wall has been ear-marked for it.

Is This Where The E30 Market Is Now..?
Cammsport replied to E30 325i Rag-Top's topic in TradeMe discussions
Woweeee. A PFL 318i coupe with 180,000kms for $14000. Looks like the seller is getting flamed in the questions box for trying to flip it. Would love to know what he/she purchased it for. https://www.trademe.co.nz/2462265293 -
Same! Although I doubt I'd find a score like this.

Thought I'd share this with the group as it may spark some nostalgic interest. Was given to me from my neighbour. Twelve A2 art prints from the '80s or '90s im guessing. Now to find a wall to show them off on. Oh, wine bottle for scale too.

Some illegal parking for an update.

All three of mine are either falling off post windscreen replacement or are old and brittle. Anyone have a source for BMW ones?
-
Heater core replacement write up if you get bored? Mine has a leak also.

Now that you've refurbed the 14" basketweaves.. I see this set of 15" are available on Facebook if you're interested Olaf.
-
Cheers for that. Do you have a rough price?
-
I'm after a tow bar so I can cram more stuff into the E91, let me know if you have anything available. Prefer folding/removable to keep the rear end pretty.
-
Yup, correct and correct.
