Edit: Anyone with their finger on the pulse know about the "individual" Mt2 coming up for sale this weekend??
The Henna Red 320i is gone, did you buy it @Ghost Chip?
Harm @leichtbau. that sounds intriguing…

20 minutes ago, Matt said:Well, after ordering them at the start of October last year I have FINALLY received the last pieces of trim to finish my 1M interior conversion, which are the gauge pod and the dash trim. I'm stoked with how it has turned out, really gives the car a bit more of a special feel than the standard aluminium trim, I think. Pics below..
Unfortunately though my headliner has now started to sag, so going to need to sort that out soon. Anyone got a recommendation on where to get that done and expected cost?
Looks awesome Fella!

4 minutes ago, Olaf said:I went M42 for four main reasons. Firstly I'd already spent on updates dedicated to 4cyl, it would be a waste of time and money to backtrack and spend the same money twice. Secondly if I want a performance car, I already have that in other vehicles. Thirdly I really enjoy the balance of a four cylinder e30; they're frankly better balanced than a six. YMMV. Fourthly if I put an M5x into my car, it wouldn't be a 318iS replica. Ultimately I've not owned a four cylinder car since 2008, and last serious four cylinder car I owned was 1996; I'm keeping this one four-pot for the driving experience.
Why is the M5x the sensible move? It's a more modern engine, superior to the M20 (doesn't have the maintenance weakspots of the M20), has more power, less weight, multi-valve top-end, and VANOS for the bottom end (later models). It's a far superior motor. If you're going to the expense and effort of re-powering a thirty year old e30, and the expense and hassle of certing it, you might as well do an M5x - plenty of power and a better drive. Unless you're building (say) a 1990 spec 325i (replica), and you specifically want the character of the M20.
I acknowledge that for most people an M5x makes more sense than an M42 or M44 - the M42 is pretty pricey for some of the engine parts. And then there's the M30 😀.
I expect somebody will be along shortly extoling the virtues of M60/M62 conversions; I'm not worthy! 😁 I'd love to experience one. I'm picking nobody says they're easy, or easier than an M5x or M4x conversion?
Hope that helps.
Here's a thought. Have you bought the specialist books about the e30? Take a look on Amazon, buy up, read up.
Olaf continues to be the experienced voice of reason be great to see some photos of your 318iS tribute/replica on its journey

Just now, Ghost Chip said:I have a real weird criteria in my head haha. If I’m going full resto, I’d rather it be a coupe. But if interior/exterior is relatively tidy already and just need to repower then open to sedans for the right price.
Think that makes sense where did you source the manual bits and bobs from?

all facelift E30 cabbys are 1990 built or later. This means in NZ they are usually registered as 1991 or 1992.early prefacelift cabbies all have lower rear arches than thier coupe and sedan brothers of the same age. the lower arches were then carried through to all facelift E30s.
and that tech2 kit is fiberglass. it is not possible to fit tech2 kit onto a prefacelift car.
Thank you @_ethrty-Andy_ so the Facebook one iS a facelift, but has the smaller rear lamps? May need my glasses on...
I think your auto to manual swap, if anything, adds to the value of yours as it comes with all the parts to return it to factory issued spec, a great approach imho.

23 minutes ago, leichtbau said:Worth noting the Mt2 kit.
Noting good; noting bad? I think I recall that the convertibles had a delay in applying the LCI, or at least tail lights wise, is that right? So is this essentially a pre-LCI or?
-
@_ethrty-Andy_ for the marginal if any cost in premium go for $30k. You won’t be able to replace it easily anyway but having more money in your hand if the worst happened might help you feel better? Who do you insure with and who did the pin dent paintless dent repairs out of interest?
Calypso Red is suuch a nice colour on an E30

Something must’ve been wrong with my TradeMe search as definitely looked at least 4 times that morning. It would only have made me sad anyway as sunk way deep into the sedan I bought.
But wow it looks awesome in white

6 minutes ago, leichtbau said:Was on trademe, and prior to that, trademe and the E30 FB Classifieds 18 months ago for $40K. Been through a couple of owners since a friend did a full rebuild @313km. $15K spent on the motor alone, over $45K was spent from top to tail, new leather, new seat foam, custom hidden bluetooth stereo with sub box along with period correct headunit, full koni suspension + bushing refresh, new steering rack etc etc.
Was probably put to market about a year too soon initially, and the buy now later was far far far too cheap. It's level above the $64K red one.
Thanks Harm, never saw it on TradeMe and refresh that all day haha
