My 540i touring is in need of a big birthday!
I have sold a few cars and a dirt bike! $$
Now I need to start sorting a manual swap before all the conversions are all gone!
My auto trans has had a rough life before I got it! I payed for a trans service and its still not running 100%!
I am in need for a good condition gear box and e34 manual bits! hopefully I won't need to order from America/canada as I would have no idea on condition!
If anyone knows of a gearbox Getrag 420g available or sitting in someones shed please get in touch!
Thanks for reading

Hehe you’re kind. It is a good tidy honest car, “patina” and all. I have asked it nicely to convert into a manual coupe but so far it is not having a bar of it, so am likely to be a repeat “drink and buy” offender in the future and liberate RedSE to the market or do some kind of deal

I follow what I can see publicly but can only recall the stunning Red 318is going for about $22K. There was a Silver 325i 2 Door with a 1UZ V8 asking $20k last year that presumably sold for close too it as well.
Just my purchase… and I blame some of it on 🍷

This seems insanely overpriced. I would personally be surprised if it was sold for 25k.
Jeepers! I think I am a pedant but I really dislike MT2 rear spoilers on pre-LCI cars, especially given how delicate the back of the convertibles are styling-wise. The MT2 rear bumper’s depth helps balance it out more? But I know some people will also love it. For me if it was manual, had the factory 15” basketweaves, the subtler lip spoiler etc then in this market maybe $35k+? I suspect the seller knows this but is also chancing the possibility someone falls in love with it?

HOW TO CHANGE JAPAN RADIOS TO NZ FREQUENCIES - WITHOUT A BAND EXPANDER
Factory fitted BMW radios from around 2000 onwards have a 'world tuner' inside them. The same radio can be used anywhere in the world.
The radio can be programmed to operate in JAPAN mode (FM = 70-90), or in OCEANIA or EUROPE mode (FM=87.5-108).
They also do a USA and CANADA mode but that's not useful here in NZ.
BMWs imported from Japan have their radios set to JAPAN mode (wonder why?)
These can be readily re-programmed to NZ frequencies as follows:
1. Switch on radio
2. Within 10 seconds, press and hold down the 'm' button until the serial number appears (takes around 10secs) to enter the radio's service menu.
3. Use the + or - buttons to cycle through the menu settings until you see AREA JAPAN or just JAPAN (varies a bit depending on radio)
4. Use the 1...6 buttons to select either OCEANIA (or OCE) or EUROPE - both are valid settings for New Zealand - see below for differences.
5. Switch radio off to store the change
Voila! Your radio has now bee reprogrammed to receive NZ FM frequencies!
Also, the cool RDS features will now be available.
Differences between OCEANIA and EUROPE modes on an E46 Business RDS radio (other radios may vary slightly):
a) EUROPE has LW, MW and FM. OCEANIA has AM and FM only.
OCEANIA shows ST for a FM stereo station; EUROPE doesn't show anything for stereo or mono FM stations.
c) EUROPE has the softkeys set to RDS and TP; OCEANIA has RDS and PTY
Which ever one you choose - OCEANIA or EUROPE - is up to you, they both work.
I hope you find this info useful, and that the forum moderator makes this a 'sticky'
PS: If anyone wants any info or help with BMW radios - talk to me. I've helped around 80 BMW owners convert from Japan radios to proper NZ radios for their BMWs, thus keeping the vehicle in original condition, and obtaining proper radio reception. Send me an email for more info!
Cheers, Jochen

You can Google it, follow settings instructions and change region code to Oceania or similar in the stereo and should take care of it for you

I’ll put it on my watch and wait list @_ethrty-Andy_ am sure you’ll do a good job so will be keen to see it when ready to sell; what colour is it?

Ah thanks @Ghost Chip
am not on Wastebook alas.
Looks tidy, really don’t like the over fat wheels but they could be swapped out. I have heard some mixed views in this forum about King springs

At this rate we'll have to sell the Baur. can't justify having that much money tied up in a car when we're planning to sort permanent housing.
Is that the white one? In Napier?

Not in as nice condition as his (front bumper is munted) and the fact there's a 13k bill from Auckland City BMW (rod bearings I assume) is mildly disconcerting but it is the coolest Touring you can get...
Any other pro's / cons? @aja540i
Tis tasty!

12 minutes ago, Sammo said:Needed a refurb too... can't you get them refurbed on Ebay for $750-800?
I would be getting a Nardi or something for less money.
Not sure @Sammo, I just got a refurbished one in Germany off eBay delivered to my friend who works for BMW in Munich coincidentally, from the private seller across the other side of country, will land in NZ for $965 all up via DHL. This was the cheapest I could find. Even if the Customs GST applies think it was good value.
If you’re not handy refurbishment can cost heaps too: I got quoted $975 by an Absolute Upholstery here in Wellington to recover my NA MX-5 Nardi wheel, so declined their kind offer. There are lots of recover kits on the net if you are deft with a needle though.
That TradeMe one looks like you could do a good clean, maybe bit of dye on the worn bits and treatment and it would have fair bit more life before needing to be recovered?

E91 is a great shape though, but I would go for a 325i all day.

Looks very clean, but not concourse and kind of feels like the recent Mtech frenzy has died down a little.
I'm going with $35K.
Hmm good question, Invercargill is a bit of a stretch, dash crack and repair to seat bolster (done quite well) and red number plate surround (bin it), and dent in bonnet, and rough looking front lip… still think $38-40k?

Agree @Mikan if certed and rust free I would take a look. And worth more than you are pitching, what is body mileage and engine mileage?
Is This Where The E30 Market Is Now..?

Seems like a good price until the kms, I am not mechanically minded so to me it’s not looking like an opportunity, but to someone with a rough 325i already who could swapsies over things? Maybe ?
