  2. fantastic suggestions in here.. I did locate this alloy radiator which has some excellent reviews to it's quality it's just out of stock currently. http://www.bimmerzone.com/BMW_Performance_...L-AR-E39M5.html Add to this new pump, temp etc as per: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-14418-co...age-e39-m5.aspx & new expansion tank and I think she should be good for another 100ks. Def will add grease CV's & brake fluid flush / power steering check to list. many thanks. Jason - Already have stoptech braided brake lines, new clutch and E60 short shift kit (with all new OEM BMW linkages). I don't believe I was able to locate a aftermarket clutch line for my car.
  3. cheers. yeah. someone will have to pry my dead fingers off the keys. the purpose of all this is that I don't intend on selling it. ever. So better to spend the $ now. *I'd be interested in any leads on quality alloy cooling parts if anyone knows anything?
  4. i'll post up some more pic's when I have some UPS packages turn up and I can do some "look at me all getting my hands dirty & sh1t" pics. I've been thinking of a cooling system overhaul however i might leave that to BMW to ensure nothing is missed.
  5. greetings.... with my M5 hitting 11 years old and 90,000km ... I've embarked on a comprehensive maintenance program to ensure the M car continues to the be ultimate driving machine and to complete and learn alittle about doing some of the easier servicing myself. I've noted recently that I may have overlooked a few regular maintenance parts that I probably should have done earlier so, hence the purpose of this thread. If anyone spots something I have missed or is embarking on a similar journey please fell free to post. currently there isn't anything wrong with the car. this is all preventative maintenance. basic's: '02 M5 NZ new 90ks all regular oil services done via BMW already upgraded: cabin (carbon activated) air filters NGK IX iridium spark plugs AFE prodry airfilters oem bosch MAF sensors rear intergal links (bilstein) Powerflex suspension bushes stoptech steel brake lines axxis deluxe pads slotted discs clutchmaster clutch E60 SSK parts on order: fuel filter pre-cat O2 sensors beastpower rear swaybar links peake research scan tool vent hoses (crankcase)
  6. true words reading the message boards sounds like some low-life former employee stole $200k from them. After loosing a lawsuit with the insurance company whom refused to pay out they folded. Sad.
  7. i previously bought a few things through them, clutch was probably the most expensive. I found them great to deal with. No issues at all. Sad such a big player has dropped out dumping loyal customers in it at the same time by the sounds. Oh well. Turnermotorsport had the same gear.
  8. wow.... they were pretty big weren't they? glad i waited until I got back to place an order
  9. I haven't been able to get to their site for days... anyone?
  10. Hey - if ur getting a professional to install go for the 6.5"s. a pro can whip up a MDF speaker Ring in 10 mins.Even I made mine in a few hours over a wknd using just a gigsaw & sandpaper. Like I said before there's plenty of room for 6.5"s with large magnets. The sound improvement over the pissy little 5.25"s is massive. I looked at the BSW system too but decided for less $ I could build my own which I can guarantee would sound considerably better. Having said that if its just for 6mths use I would bother at all and just invest in an iPod. But if u must you could easily plug in the BSW front speakers yourself. Prob get some coin back for them on trademe as rogan said
  11. Im lucky I have the M audio package (with the subs) so I decided to upgrade the speakers first using the factory M amp and see how it sounded. Since the wife keeps telling me to turn it down its doing the job. Keeping in mind I also am running the same PPI components in the rear of the car, I have to turn them down to balance the sound. I picked up both sets of PPIs for $1000 all up. Install took just two helpers and a few hours. Cutting the custom wood speaker rings took the longest time for the rear set to mount. Just keep in mind that $300 US will prob end up costing you 450-500 in your hand with shipping / customs. Soundstream is quality stuff but yes their magnets usually give clearance issues.
  12. Sorry I got another PM thought it was u. Hard as typin on iPhone in Singapore hotel lobby. This is what I PM I went with the precision power components. 6.5s and used two sets one for both front and rear. Depending on your current setup you will have 5.25" drivers in the door with either a tweeter attached or one in the sail position. BMW use sound tubes, plastic containers to amplify the sound to make the speakers sound better than they are. Like little boxes. It's really not hard to ditch these and make up some custom wood speaker rings to allow for a larger woofer. If u aren't into installing any place worth their salt will be able to help. I wouldn't bother changing 5.25 speakers with just 5.5" ones. The improvement will be minimal as you will have to ditch the tubes anyway as i doubt you could make the larger speaker fit the tube easily. Pickup a set of good 6.5's and get them powered off your amp if you can for the best result. Rear speakers are just fill so spend more on the front set this will give you the best bang for buck. Oh also get them to dynamat the doors, I'm going to go back and do that shortly. It's worth the couple of hundred. As for brands money wasn't really and issue so I was looking at super expensive stuff like bostons and Polk audio but was told by a high end audio shop about the PPIs - precision Power speakers were just as good at half the price. I have to say I'm super impressed with mine. The quality of the speaker & crossovers are excellent. You should be able to find some pics of some upgrades online I even found one guy did a 7.5" speaker but had to cut the door card. Mine looks totally factory. You would never know.
  13. PM sent Good luck & let us know how u got on.
  14. Hey. I've completely replaced all speakers in the cabin in my E39. I've discussed here on various other threads you might be able to find. I'm out of the country currently replying from a roof bar in KL. I'll be back in the country in a week with more time / access. But more than happy to discuss If u have any questions. I replaced all speakers with precision power audio components (6.5s) and have achieved really excellent results. Trust me. There's plenty of room for 6.5 speakers with really big magnets like the PPI's. No cutting of door cards or butchering anything. You really should consider the bigger speaker size for real sound gains no matter what music you listen to. PM me or reply here. Happy to help.
  15. I'm looking to invest in a BMW scanner mostly because I want to avoid paying BMW $60 per scan to trace faults. I'm looking at this: http://www.bimmerzone.com/category/Diagnos...Peake_Tool.html possibly this: http://www.xcar360.com/bmw-scanner-1-4-0-b...-scan-tool.html Does anyone have any opinions or alternative suggestions? I've been alerted there are alternatives that can do this that or the other. But really I just want to be able to check fault codes & clear so I can diagnose issues myself. So ease of use is high on the priority list. Any / all opinions as to the best tools for this purpose appreciated. cheers

    Quick Questions

Where's my OBC port? I found the 16 pin in the car. But dammed if I can find the 20 port under the hood. I want to buy a scanner for my car.... Does mine only have the 16 pin port? http://www.bimmerzone.com/category/Diagnos...Peake_Tool.html E39 M5 2002
  21. its a very flash trickle charger. Has onboard safetys so that can't happen. I checked that out first.
  22. ok even I think that statement is just weird. lol. And I'm OCD enough about cleaning my car that I intend to leave work early today to go home and clean it, because i'm out of the country for 3 weeks and can't stand the thought of it sitting dirty for that long. I don't like spending hours cleaning it. But I have to. Then I can sleep easy knowing it's all clean and shiny, tucked up in the garage in it's tailored BMW car cover on a trickle charger for when I return. See? OCD.
  23. M5's can run fine on 95 says so on the fuel flap. What's wrong with getting it dirty every now and then? I baby mine, and she's filthy from last weekend driving down all the winery dirt driveway's.
  24. full service history M5.... ...this is what everyone has been bleating about...
