    PSY Gentleman

i like it. the dude is funny as. at least it's better than the standard gangster rap, pants hanging out, booty poppin, bling bling you see in every other damn music video on MTV these days.
  2. +1 something that's an issue only when hot. solenoid is the cheapest and easiest fix, most likley if there is no noise or action at all. If you hear noises it could be the starter isn't strong enough to engage.
  3. This doesn't sound right. E39's have speed sensitive power steering. It's fully active at low speeds and diminishes as the car increases in speed. It has nothing to do with cornering or G force. I'd say you need to get it checked. firstly could be as easy as a slipping or loose belt. The correct tension needs to be applied to the belt to stop slip, & the belt needs to be in good nick also. Look for leaks. How is the fluid level? has it dropped? any fluids on the floor where you regularly park?
  4. issue - occasional stall when coasting upto stop with clutch disengaged when engine is warm (long drives only) scan - showed O2 sensor faults replaced - MAF sensors Test - well it didn't do it on the wknd. last time i did the same drive it stalled twice. I tried to coast up to every red light. result. awesome. Thanks for everyones's input. I love this forum. However the much touted MAF test show only 90 odd something flow rate. Pretty much like before. I expected a higher reading. Is this due to atmo correction or is there another factor at play with these tests? I'm planning on changing the pre-cat 02 sensors & fuel filter also in the near future and getting a scan tool to reset and then check the warning codes again. Anyone have an idea what else I might have missed? *note: there's no real performance problem of note, car pulls hard. New spark plugs and always 98 octane fuel.*

    is this for real?

    NGK Iridiums

hehehehe..... that's never a issue here mate. All factory plugs. Most had little electrode left. cars just done 90ks. timing couldn't have been more perfect. response from the iridiums has been awesome. Should have done this earlier. So thanks.
  7. http://chrisparente.com/2011/09/12/replaci...s-on-an-e39-m5/ with pictures. I've been looking to change the front o2 sensors if my MAF replacement doesn't fix my problem... They literally should be plugged in before and after the cats.
  8. you could have also stuck your head under the car julian. lol... i've read a few ppl having issues when they have deleted and had to revert back. the post cat sensors really just monitor emissions and the health of the cats. So technically who cares about them. However this will throw error codes. It's the pre cat sensors the car relies on to monitor the engine health and tune.
  9. I reading a reasonable pickup across the rev range but a particular pickup of 18odd hp around 6400? That's really good ray. Was there any other changes through the three runs? NZ performance tuning has come back with $1300 to tune my car here in welly. A little rough when entire link setup in my Racecar was 2k and that included several hours on the dyno and the actual ecu, not just a reflash.
  10. Have u had a custom tune for the cab Ray?
  11. Who where,.... Wait what? How much did that cost? The M5 is awesome. I've decided I'm never selling it so I'm on a maximize what you have got kick. Waiting on replacement MAF units from the US to arrive. I believe they are the cause on my little issue. Both a scan from BMW and running the MAF test via the OBC confirmed they are not working to potential. Then I have a hit list of stuff I'd like to do. A good chip from a reputable source is high on the list. So if you have a contact in Wtgn you can recommend?
  12. Well qudos to turner Motorsport for their customer sevice. Email with 10mins. US spec cars only. Dammit. Someone please make ecu reflash available to us little wellingtonians.
  13. Yeah I've looked into those. $1k is pretty steep for what could only potentially be 10-20crank hp gain. Plus I'd have to have the time to drive to Auckland to complete which is the biggest pain. Cheers for the heads up ray I've emailed them to confirm.
  14. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/showcatego...-chips-software Sounds like a easy way to upgrade the factory software Anyone have one or hear about this?
  15. thanks for the feedback Jeff. Personally I wouldn't be comfortable with any drop in braking performance. But each to their own. I'm happy to pay alittle more coin and probably put up with a bit more dust and use the Axxis pads I currently run. They definitely are an improvement over OEM in all aspects. Super happy with bite, fade resistance, pad & rotor wear rates as well as dust levels. Nice to know you have the brakes under you when you get into a sticky situation.
  16. cheers yes I've already had a little read of that page before I fell asleep. Great late night reading. I've already located a place which sells just the genuine bosch MAF units save paying for the full tube as well. they even give you the tool to remove. http://www.bimmerzone.com/category/BMW_Performance_MAFS.html
  17. I don't think so. It didn't come up in the scan. The BMW master tech that came and had a chat only talked about the values from the O2 sensors and how they might be out if the MAF units were not operating correctly. Or it might just be a particular 02 sensor. Then obviously offered to take her in for a few days to diagnose further. I think i'll stick to my plan of replacing the MAF units if the car doesn't show noticeable fuel mileage improvement and i'll try the OBC MAF test to see what they are flowing as per: http://www.m3torque.co.uk/showthread.php?t=43 Then re-scan.
  18. Well I spent yesterday with CRCs MAF cleaner and a cotton tip. After spraying the MAF wires and very gentle rubbing I can feel a noticeable improvement in power using the old bum dyno. I guess I'm not really sure how much is simply the new spark plugs from last wknd or MAF clean yesterday. Or how long a cleaner MAF unit will prolong the evidential MAF replacement. As a lot of forum chat seems to think cleaning is simply a short term solution. I just wonder how much difference new MAF units will make. There is was no noticeable dirt or damage on the units. I think I will keep any eye on the fuel economy on longer trips as this would seem the best judge of mixtures and compare against a MAF replacement in a few months. Happy to share the scan ill just have to scan it to send you Ray. I'll try to sort this for you shortly.
  19. Thanks Glenn Well there isn't really a fault as such. Cars running fine. Just very occasionally the odd low rpm stall. It's more trying to keep her in top condition. (I'm a little OCD) How long or how many kms would the MAF sensors expect to start to degrade? The nice lad at BMW seemed to suspect they might just be on their way out ... And I might pick up some lost power by throwing some new units in.
  20. Had the car scanned at BMW. They were kind enough to leave me with the printout. The mechanic wasn't sure if my issue was o2 or MAF sensors. He stated it shows o2 sensor faults but though this is more likely to be worn MAFs It states mix too rich Volt MAF 1.12 & 1.10 After cat o2 sensor status "ageing" Voltage before cat .78v & .52v There plenty more info here. I'm just not sure what's good or off Help....
  21. hey steve, if you are experiencing the jerky under load problem then a good service might sort out your problem. spark plugs are a inspection 2 item. Check your service manual as to when that was last done. If you can't see one then chances are they haven't and that very much could be your problem. I just changed mine at 90k's and they are knackered. Very little electrode left. I would expect your problem would have started within the next 20k's. If that doesn't help then get the car scanned as this can sometimes point out the problem item. The service light should help as an indicator as to when, I always service before the light comes on anyway.

    02 sensors

tell me about it! fingers crossed the scan comes out clean and it stalling issue is relegated to history.
