Anyone have an E39 with a factory alarm in it?
Jazzbass replied to jochen's topic in General Discussion
Jochen - my E39 does. What year is your car? - 1996 Is it NZ-New or ex-Japan or ex-Singapore? - NZ new Do your indicators flash when you lock/unlock the car? - when I lock it only (not when unlock) Have you every tested the alarm to see how it goes off? - only by accident Does it sound the horn as well as siren? - just the siren (I think -not sure) The first time the alarm went off was when a friend was wandering around by the parked car with a portable phone from his house. That triggered it. The other time, I left my dogs in my car while I went into a shop. I forgot about the internal motion sensor. Off she went. Cheers, Rog -
In the D&LG, the writer often makes mention of something like - if you want to see what a BMW should be like, drive a Lexus. I've come across many comments like that and while I understand what they're trying to say, I really do think they've missed the point totally. If I wanted to drive a Toyota, I would, but I don't - I love driving my BMW. To me, the BMW just has something that no Japanese car I've ever owned (I've had many) has ever had - and that's 'character'. BMWs just have a package that totally suits me. I enjoy my driving again since I've discovered that certain character. Toyotas have a great car, hell its normally #1 on any list for reliability etc - BUT - its a Toyota, whether its a Lexus or an Echo- its NOT what I want. Why can't motoring writers see that basic fact?

Sorry, I did try to watch it, honest! But - just not for me....
-
I've read about them before and the comments were usually less than positive as far as ride and handling, which is understandable I guess.

I'm cool with that. Nice respect.
-
LOL - yeah - trailer trash with money!
-
Certainly NOT my cup of tea, as predicted - but the power boost would be pretty cool. I used to have an RX3 Coupe - great in a straight line, but don't even think about cornering them at speed.Plonking one in a car which knows how to take corners is a good marriage for a fun car like that.

Man - there has been some SERIOUS work gone into that truck. RESPECT!!!! I'm down with that last sign...

I guess the trucks shows just what impact the large market that is USA has on the world. Will Rover be on the list next, considering how large the Chinese market is? China's SAIC to debut Rover clone Rover technology will live on in SAIC's new model. China's largest carmaker, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, has said it will produce its first car based on Rover technology by the end of 2006. SAIC said it would announce a name for the new car, based on technology used in Rover's 75, next month. The firm lost out to Nanjing Automobile in a bid for the collapsed MG Rover Group last year, but acquired the copyright for its 75 and 25 models. Earlier this week US motor giant Ford bought the Rover name from BMW.

Most popular vehicles according to wikipedia.org: 1 Toyota Corolla 2 Ford F-series (trucks) 3 Volkswagen Golf 4 Volkswagen Beetle 5 Ford Escort 6 Honda Civic 7 Ford Model T 8 Nissan Sunny/Sentra/Pulsar 9 Volkswagen Passat 10 Lada Riva That is so cool - the Lada in 10th place. I'd be highly offended in BMW got on such a list.... I don't want a 'popular' car - that means the hoi polloi drive them...

If the brain damage is too bad, he could always be a parking warden...

LOL - You're just a big kid, aren't you, mate!! Quite normal round here...

Its a good sign of maturity. The older we get, the more we realise how little we really know. Only the 17yo know everything...

well done, that man!! Just as a matter of interest for me - regarding the high number of E30s. Of the top of your head, is there an age correlation there? What I mean is, E30s are old and cheap. Young people can easily afford them. As the E number gets larger, so does the cost. Less young people want to be (or are not allowed to be ) wasting more money on cars, as they have houses and young familes to care for. Obviously there will always be people outside of that grand generalisation. So this would place the average age more towards 20-30 age group?

550 bhp? Bloody hell, I well remembe rin my youth a hot-rod friend getting 300 bhp from a Chevy 450 (or it might have been a 350) anyway a large Detroit V8, certainly not a little 3 litre six. Scary stuff.

But they're only feeding 3 cylinders each. Is big necessarily better? http://motoring.independent.co.uk/road_tes...icle1219168.ece

OK, E30stz - you started this thread. Time for YOU to sort out a summary of what people own. We're all sitting on the edge of our seats in antici.........pation. Since you asked what we are driving now, by default all the 'I used to have' responses need not be factored in.

I do like the sticker placement on your car.
-
Does anyone in NZ REALLY think they need one? Hell, most of us don't even have maps.....
-
Yeah, the bloke they used at JG wasn't much better (bald, Pommy bloke - nice guy, though). A customer was asking what turbos were and his explantion was very dodgy and I did think he had no idea himself. I explained in layman's terms for him.
-
LOL - yep, I got told off for mentioning H**das here once, even though it wasn't derogatory at all, (really surprised me at the time) so I therefore never mention them again. Better safe than sorry....
-
I guess they can market it any way they like - I won't be buying one. I could get some decent equity into a renter for that money... at least renters make money, cars lose it.

Thanks, Martyn, I thought it must be along those lines, but really- it could have been a place to dry out their stash for all I knew..

I know this'll be a basic question for you guys, but I have no idea what that strut attached to the top of the suspension does. Anyone able to inform me? My E39 certainly doesn't have one.
