  1. That's cool dudes. Yes to me, the car looks better without the lids. The dark gold is a different colour to me also. Both of you started by lowering the car and chucking bigger wheels on it and I think that really changes the E39 for the better. Chromies are too young for me, though Its been fun - thanks, both of you. My car will, of course stay stock, as us old farts prefer function over form and comfort over neck/ headaches.
  2. Something similar happened to a friend: his kid being bullied after school. The father stepped in as they were tussling and pulled them apart. Long story short - he ended up with a criminal conviction and community service because by actually (gasp) touching the little sebasatian he 'assaulted' him. The bastard bully is still laughing... That to me is an example of how ridiculous our laws and policing have become.
  3. Shorty - thanks, man - that's cool. The colour change is great. Not keen on eyebrows, but lowering in makes a big difference to the car! Thanks, mate.
  4. I do think that regardless of other considerations and images of our past (which really have no bearing on the current perspective): modified cars, loaded with any combination of hoodies, caps worn backwards, lowered seats, drag on the ground loweredness, dark tinted windows, loud hiphop or metal with booming subs etc WILL attract attention. To be fair, many of you here have stated that attracting attention is high on your personal agenda, so that's not surprising. So, people look to see either the noise or the dress code of the occupants and, sorry to say, but I believe it to be true, instantly make assumptions based upon that. The media has ensured that the public associate much of the above image with the criminal element of our country. Nobody likes crims, so there is an immediate dislike and maybe some fear of anyone who meets the criteria. Therefore, regardless of who you really are, if you are: young, male, enjoy todays music, play it loud, dress in today's fashion and enioy modding cars, you WILL often be thought of a a boy racer and most likely a crim. With that in mind, people will expect the police to check you out. The public is happy with that. Part of it is your own fault, part of it is due to media profiling, part of it is people wanting to hang labels on others, part of it is jealousy, part of it is fear. All of it is real, you just have to deal with it in your own way or get rolled by it. 30 years from now, you will most likely have the same feelings towards the youth of that day. Its eternal.
  5. Yes, you are right. It is going to get worse. Greater population density, quicker cars, a restrictive PC Govt and us old farts getting grumpier. Police ticket quotas and the very real fact that modern cars are far better than modern NZ roads are capable of accepting. Cell phones too mean that grumpy old buggers of my generation can dob in people who piss us off far more easily. Couple this with youth, who have always thought themselves superior drivers and bulletproof to boot, but who in most cases are far from either. You're also right that we forget what we were like. You're right too that my generation was a pack of wankers in cars, just like your generation. It's the way its always been for youth. My generation can't and I guess don't want to do anything at all about it, except winge about lack of respect of modern youth. I don't believe that modern youth can change and in fact, I don't think they should - with ONE exception: Just f**king think before acting sometimes. To us oldies, boy racers are not age-defined, they are action-defined. Drive like a total f**kwit and that's your label - to us.
  6. ..obviously, you've already tried the Yellow Pages and local music shops... ???
  7. So are all the things he's been saying about you true? tsk, tsk!!! A nice girl like you n'all....

Now, you need to remember that I'm 58, so try thinking about pimping from an old man's perspective - that'll be the challenge!! BLOCKED

I posted earlier about a mate who couldn't get rid of his Aston. He finally (after a year) managed to trade both it and his old Ferarri 348 Spider on this: http://www.sundreamer.co.nz/f360.jpg His opinion of AM is very low indeed. At least his is an valid opinion, having owned one for a couple of years.
  15. Thanks for posting that, mate. Gave me a great start to the day! They say that our personality is reflected in our cars. I guess his personality and mine are poles apart...
  16. Am I the only person to feel somewhat queasy about that?
  17. For me, it'd sit on the 'seriously uncool'/'point and laugh' at wall. That said - good on him for doing it - something different.
