  1. Thanks for all the replies guys, really appreciate the thoughtfulness and detail of them I have decided to keep the E46, with our first child now on the way (holy cow!), a recent development , I'll keep the newer safer car for the growing Fam
  2. Yeah saw that last night, might be a bit too old for what I'm after, was thinking mid eighties
  3. Thanks driftit for the link, good to know this kind of stuff is available. Cheers all. Would like to get a ride in an E28 and see if the memory matches with reality. Want to put the E46 on the market soon and will consider it over the weekend, don't need a replacement right away, so no probs if the E46 sells quickly.
  4. Hi all, I'm thinking of selling my beloved E46 and replacing with an E28 as a bit of a project. I've always liked the idea f owning an older "simpler" car, for that classic feel and style. Drove one in USA a few years back and loved it. To those out there who do or have owned an E28 how are they to maintain and get parts for? What are common issues found or pit falls to look out for with these older models? there is a semi regular flow of them on Trademe most in good looking condition. It would mostly be a weekend car for cruising, something the E46 seems wasted on sitting in the garage.
  5. No probs man, I have Nexen N-fera SU1 tires. I have had a problem with one before which was replaced as it had a patch across it that was going off. So i wouldn't be surprised if these were from the same batch they're all potentially bung.
  6. yeah that hasn't happened, hardly driven the car, it isn't daily driven, and haven't hit any potholes at all. From what i was told today, all tires have either high points or are going out of round, not the wheels. So i believe trying some others would be of benefit.
  7. Hi, Car is 2001 has had LCA bushes replaced recently so confident it isnt those, the vibration is from the rear. Driveline was also checked and seems ok, some minor wear in rubber "doughnut" Yeah Beaurepairs checked for roundness, while checking and balancing 2 weeks ago and said it was sweet, but the report from today was that they aren't. Hence i want to try (hopefully) some other wheels It will need another alignment as the guys who did one today,as part of other work messed it up so now needs to go back to them to correct rear camber (not mechanics)
  8. Hey guys, is there anyone in Hams that can help me out, with some 18" wheels and good tires for a short drive? I'm trying to locate the source of a vibration in my E46 sedan, I want to try some other wheels and tries to eliminate the list of possibilities for the vibration. Mechanic says tires aren't round, Beaurepairs (where i went for an alignment recently) says they're sweet. I do plan to take them back to the store i purchased them from to try and get replacements if they aren't round as only have approx 10k kms on them of weekend driving. But would like to try some other first, to either support the position that the tires aren't round or help pin point other areas of vibration. Cheers Ben
  9. New FCABs and front brakes from the guys at SD Euro, great work diagnosing my cars "shimmy" at speed and under braking and fast turn around on fitting new parts, same day service. The new bits have also stopped the car groaning and moving after handbrake is applied.
  10. The guys at www.bavsound.com came to the party supplying me with a fix for this issue, and I only had to pay shipping. So i'm back to the cut free, plug and play installation i always wanted. Cheers
  11. Hey guys I need some help with speaker wiring in my 2001 E46 sedan. I purchased a set of "plug and play speakers" recently only to find out yesterday the wiring inside my front doors is different than expected, i.e. the tweeters are plugged into the mid bass drivers, rather than having their of specific wiring. this means, instead of just being able to plug the new gear in where the old gear was and go, i now need to add wiring and a cross over to the front doors. Can anyone make any recommendations for a good quality cross over and / or somewhere in Hamilton to help with the wiring side of things. i want a super professional job done and have no experience with wiring personally and want someone i can trust to not bodge the job. Car currently has no rattles at all and i'd like to keep it that way Cheers in advance. Ben

    'THE' M3...

Awesome Amber-Leigh, very impressed Bet you'll have a blast bringing it up to scratch, so to speak. Look forward to seeing it at future events, when i finally make it along to one - lol. Would love to see some interior shots too. Once your brain fade has subsided. good to see you also got your hands on a pop up shelter for the M
  13. Full groom at the dealer (friday) new speakers on the way
  14. Would you consider splitting the seats up? (cant see full condition of drivers seat) I'm after a passenger seat base or good quality driver side seat base for material repairs / base replacement.
  15. Yep - my E46 is headed in this Friday, sweet!
  16. New Boot lid tail lights, removed old ones with leaky seals. Started looking for new material / seat base for E46 cloth sport seats to replace ripped driver seat base. About to take wheels off for full clean and wax.
  17. If sold "as is where is" there is no come back to you, if he acknowledged that at point of sale. Citizens advice will tell you the same, caveat emptor in the case of private sales.
  18. Nope not your issue at all. You are doing a good thing by asking around for help and possible direction to point him in. But i wouldn't take it any further than that. If he test drove it, and obviously paid for it then ownership of problems that have appeared since he took the car are his. He could have done any thing to the car in the last few weeks, clutch rising like a nana at the lights, burnouts with the boys on a Friday night etc. Had a similar situation with Bike i sold once, guy saw 2 years worth of service history, test rode, etc etc. then rode it from Hamilton to Nelson, called me 2 weeks later, saying it wasn't running right and his "pro mechanic" has issues with it. I had my mechanic call him to help him out with questions and stuff, but after a few conversations it was clear the guy had buyers remorse and was looking for an excuse to off load the bike and get a refund at the same time - again, he could have done anything to it in 2 weeks, so it's not my problem. Would have been different if it was the next day or as he was taking the vehicle away. when buying second hand the responsibility is on the buyer to ensure all pre purchase checks are performed before the transaction is complete. Citizens Advice Bureau is good for advice in these matters too, if you need it. Good luck with the buyer!
  19. Annual service, VANOS oil feed line replacement, bunch of other Gaskets and bits and a valet - phew.
  20. Today, I took my BMW for a 2 hour drive and got it all dirty - lol
  21. Wondering what the difference in Non Acid vs. Acid wheels cleaners is. How do the different acidity levels affect the clean and the wheel, good or bad? Is a sealant type of product required when using and acid based wheel cleaner? I've always used non acid to date.
  22. Cheers man, looks good, did you score the replacement material from a wrecker ? That first pic looks exactly like the tear in my current seat.
  23. sorry to hijack the thread, but can the bottom covers of the suede seats be easily swapped out? My drivers M sport seat, manual adjust has a tear in it from wear on the side bolster, the rest of the seat is mint however so would be keen to get a new bottom cover only, unless of course a full suede manual seat is cheaper from wrecker etc.
  24. Those lips look mighty fine, would look great against the black too.
