  1. I think the cost of servicing newer model cars has become outrageous, the R32 has to have the gearbox fluid etc changed every 4 years at a reputed cost of $800-1000, VW fluid only. I enquired about cam belt changes on an Alfa V6, every 5 years it must be done at a cost of $3-3.5k, with these sorts of prices, the cars become worth nothing second hand.

And to the OP, I think the situation is totally outrageous and you should complain (politely) until you get satisfaction, it sounds like the biggest load of nonsense I've ever heard.

"We'll fix your car under our warranty, but we may ruin it, which will be your problem" Pardon?

  2. I have an opportunity to pick up a '96 328i as above.

    170kms or so.

    Leather, sun roof, completely stock.

Had $3.5k spent on making the paint perfect about 2 yrs ago, near new Falkens, new clutch, shocks.

Drives perfect, only "fault" is a squeaking clutch pedal, no saggy headlining.

Leather on steering wheel/gear knob worn and carpet under clutch ripped.

Ex UK (96-98), NZ since, one owner from new.

    Any ideas?

  3. There was the purple SA import that sat on a yard for ages with around 220kms on the clock, the asking price was $11,995. Kiwi535 looked at one down south with around 190kms on the clock, but I think NZ new, that was about $13k from memory.

  4. I drove behind one this morning. Pretty awesome looking but my overall impression was that it was very L-O-N-G.

Burgundy? Such a cool car, in a 70s 4 seater kind of way.

Yes, burgundy, was in Classic Car as the cover page 1 or 2 years ago. Tried photos, but it was in a dark corner.

  5. Hi people.

I can't help but put my ten cents worth in. I own the white 635csi. While it's not in Concours condition, it wouldn't take very much to make it so. The previous owner (the fourth since new), did drive it almost daily and it has the patina of a car that has been well cared for, but used. He had mechanically maintained the car regardless of cost and the service books reflect that. I'll admit that i listed the car for sale too soon (the panic of impending fatherhood can do that to a guy!) and hadn't taken care of the minor cosmetic imperfections. Regardless, the amount of attention the car gets is remarkable. I get stopped at gas stations and small groups of people gather around it outside cafe's - and yesterday, even in my driveway!. The 635 is a stunning motorcar (which is why i have two) and my partner loves them just as much. I've decided to take the car off the market, attend to the bits and pieces and keep it. It might be a bit inconvienient getting a baby seat in and out on a sunny Sunday but it's a small sacrifice. I can't think of another 'classic' motorcar that covers as many bases.

    See you on the road.

Ps, I'm looking at converting my other 635 into a road and track car. I guess the first step is a manual conversion, so if anybody can point me in the right direction that'd be really appreciated.

You're in Grey Lynn right? Looked great on the drive way, I went "Ooooh, look," to my partner, but she didn't bite. Brent on here will have a manual conversion.
