  1. I use the redline synthetic ATF in my gearbox too. It still rattles (sounds like a diesel at idle) from the lightened flywheel. Its a pretty thin fluid so dont expect it to quite it down any. Better make sure its still full tho.
  2. Rattles at idle with the clutch out? Sounds like a diesel? Worse when gearbox is warm? Its the clutch plate. Quite normal if its unsprung or if you have a lightened flywheel. It tranfers vibration from the engine into the gearbox. Sometimes a thicker oil can help but basicly just live with it. Make sure the gearbox oil is good tho so theres no chance of damage to the box. Dosn't explain the other prob tho.

    Happy birthday ya old bastid.
  4. Thats a pretty good price for parts plus labour. The only way I can see you beating that is with a cheap donor car.
  5. Find out more about the gearbox first. At $200 its worth buying anyway. I paid $1500 for a 328 gearbox! The only one I could find after 2 years waiting.
  6. I should say, dont be put off tho. Its the best thing you can do to a 328.
  7. Same thing. Basicaly anything that attaches to the car you can assume isnt going to fit. There are probably some exceptions but there wont be many.
  8. We use BMWorkshop without problems. Great North rd New Lynn. Would use Botany Moterworks but its a hell of a long way from us.
  9. Pedals; no Master cylinder; highly unlikely Cross member; no Lines and hoses; no Console insert; no Hoses; not if you have to buy a master cylinder Flywheel; posibly Shifter; unlikely Which leaves the gearbox. Do you have any more info on it? Its likely it uses the same bolt pattern so it should work. You'll also need a drive shaft. The gearbox is the difficult part to source, everything else is avaliable at least new.

You're going to have to do a lot better than that for me to believe that you're not talking through a hole in your arse.
  11. They just buy another $200 car. Dosn't matter how big a stick you have they will ignore it. Theres a big stick for DIC but people still do it. Theres a big stick for murder but people still do it. It is unenforcable because some people just dont care. Regardless, compulsory insurance is a really bad idea. We will all end up paying for it. And its more likely to happen than you may think. Absolutly agree with the restrictions on young drivers tho, Simon, but thats a different topic of its own.
  12. Hows that gonna help? Lots of people dont pay regos.
  13. Compulsory insurance is a terrible idea. Unless you like premiums that make your eyes water. And I agree, really hard to enforce.
  14. If it was me, Id be losing the dual mass and replacing it with a M20 single mass fly. Then any E30 clutch assembly will fit and theres a much bigger range.
  15. Battlestar Gallactica Red Dwarf Father Ted True classics.
  16. Dont forget smoking, drinking and doing anything with the remote possibility of getting scratched while driving a V8 and txting.
  17. Ive been looking at your profile!

  18. Something tells me your not a big fan of Labour Simon.
  19. If it is the water pump pulley, replace the waterpump quick! The fan can make a right mess in there. But since it continues after the engines shutdown its probably the viscous coupling.
  20. I keep falling asleep. Why is it on so late?
  21. No doubting the guy can drive though. Oh... and its as much a F1 circuit as Hamilton is a V8 circuit.
  22. Runflats on our E46 when we bought it. Horrible!
