pretty sure these are the guys and girls who made the "Getaway in Stockholm" street race videos- bloody crazy Scandinavians!

Still running the AFM- not impressed. And that was against the American (LITE) M3 (low calorie S52 version) V12 is a triumph in engineering - as it shows that you can get an enormous amount of hardware in the front of an E30, even if half of it will spill out past the front bumper. Would handle like a dog on wet lino with all of that weight hanging out the front!..............

yep,for the liquid Loctite in bottles anyway (not the various gasket goos) Not sure about the temp. where it "melts" I'd guess around 200 degrees C, a heat gun will usually do it, you don't have to turn the part blue! You can use stud lock in place of nut lock, it is just different degrees of locking, maybe 50% stronger?
-
262 is the loctite stud fix. you could even put the 601 bearing fix in there- they will never fall out then! If you ever need to remove them, heat them up with a heat gun, heat fu@ks the loctite

Gotta like it,I really didn't think 1000 hp was enough anyway!.............................

later M20 has lightweight high torque planetry gear type starter

mine aint that ugly, and doesn't wear lipstick either!

tell your mate to stop shagging his dog

very nice work!!!! definitely a few green eyed monsters looking! The fuel/ignition map on one of these setups uses rpm(load) and crank speed, and the MAP sensor is vented to atmosphere, to correct for altitude. This setup is usually referred to as Alpha-N, and is most commonly used on N/A race engines. Ask him if he wants to build a few of those inlet manifolds, I can think of two people off the top of my head that want them!!! One question- do E21's normally have the steering rack behind the crossmember?

Kayne Barrie does good work on BMW LSD's, can add extra plates, has a jig made up to change ramp angles etc. I'll try to dig his number out for you.
-
normally sold with clear title at Turners, the debt is repaid once the auction is completed.
-
surely you meant "Doesn't want anything seizing up through lack of ABuse?!!!"
-
oops! check it next week, it might not have sold.
-
spotted this earlier, it would be nice to see it go to an enthusiast, you will probably own it for $1000. http://www.turners.co.nz/TabId/188/vguid/3...03/default.aspx

I still have the owners handbook and spare alarm key for this car cluttering up my shelf- it goes in the rubbish next week if it isn't picked up!!!
-
yes they are, and the cars are relatively standard, with several running the E39 M5 gearbox.

seen some of that racing, cars sounds good! here is the site: http://www.eurosuperstars.com/eng/regolamenti.asp

Yep thats right. It is a clutch pack diff with no preload, came out of a 1998 2.8 Z3(wink wink!), its a medium case same as the bigger engined E30's. Behaved like an single spinner when you lit the bags up, so not a lot of use in that state really?
-
Not necessarily, I have one here that is low milage, and behaves like a normal diff, ie. shafts turn in opposite directions! You really need to pull the back cover plate off, take a pic and post it up here. I will tell you if it is LSD or not.
-
Agreed, it should be "340i" But yes, it will fit. I have seen one, you need some serious sump mods, and I think exhaust headers needed to be made along with engine and tranny mounts. Plenty of room in the engine bay, and the tranny tunnel plenty large enough. No harder than fitting a Lexus, which seems to be in vogue for some strange reason (oh yes, they are cheap!)
-
for light to medium scratches on painted wheels, I just flatten them out with a file, fill them with a bit of epoxy filler (ordinary car bog is fine though) sand and paint. If you have machined rims, and big gouges, then they will need welding, and machining back. The problem with this is that the heat from welding "normalises" the surrounding metal (destroys the heat treatment) making the area softer, so this is best avoided if possible.

I tried to buy a gasket once from Jerry Claytons- not in stock at BMW NZ, and they say they have never sold one!! Very hard to believe, but it seems everyone just bins the gasket and uses a proprietary sealer. I must admit, that is all I have ever done, and never had problems.

Bulletproofing an M50/Turbo
conrod replied to Surge's topic in Forced Induction & Performance Tuning
Slapping an old set of M20 pistons in, is not really in keeping with your title of "bulletproofing an M50/Turbo" now is it? And neither is "wait till the headgasket blows" and "slowly upgrade the componantry(sic)" You need to decide whether you want to do it properly, or on the cheap. As Josh said, do some reading on turbo engines first, and build it right. Or else you can just slap it together with whatever is cheap and lying around, and we can all run a sweepstake on how long it will run before it goes bang! -
I was looking for a new pair of Levis in Meccano a month or two back. The male shop assistant (about 20 I'd say) told me "you don't want Levis, they are old mans jeans" to which I replied "well compared to you I am an old man!" Bought some other brand from Barkers in the end......................
