  1. I am kinda glad that none of the drift boys are into BMW's,I say let them wreck those ugly Cefiro and Laurel shitters instead. Most drift cars I have seen in NZ are built to very tight budgets, with 10% of the budget spent on car purchase,80% of the budget spent on a big turbo and Lunk computer, and truck sized intercooler fitted outside the body (as it was obviously too big to be tucked into the normal place- the "Fast and Furious" penis enhancing equivalent of the old hot rodders supercharger poking through the bonnet!) The last 10% of the budget is spent on the cage, seats and paint!........ Having said all of that, I do know someone building a drift 850i, and is slapping a supercharger onto it- should be, ummm, interesting!..........
  2. Andrew, can you put this thread in an appropriate forum, and keep this for race series only. thank you Conrad
  3. Andrew, can you put this thread in an appropriate forum, and keep this for the race series. Thank you, Conrad
  4. Is this the Green coupe Andy is building? It has been done in Europe, either by Hartge or Alpina, but details are hard to come by.No reason I can think of why it should not be a successful conversion.
  5. centrigual superchargers deliver a non linear boost curve;if a kit makes 9 pounds boost at 6000rpm, it will only deliver 3 pounds at 3000rpm, meaning it will only make a noticable increase in power at higher rpms, whereas a rootes type blower will gives a nearly linear boost increase, meaning you will get a good mid-range power/torque increase, but not as much top end as a centrifugal.Centrifugal blowers can make nice hp/torque numbers on paper, but how they deliver it is not always clearly understood. It all depends what you are after really.
  6. It pretty much looked as it did in the last pics I posted, before I sold it, and bought the M3. You do realise it is not the same car?
  7. Assuming it is the world-championship-whatever that we were competing for, I would probably fit those little bleed off valves that the speedway guys use, until you banned those too!
  8. Nitrogen does not contain the moisture that air does, so when heated (as happens in racing)nitrogen does not tend to increase in pressure as much as air does, in other words, you get a greater pressure increase on hot tyres filled with air, than you do with nitrogen. BTW, to do it properly, you really need to evacuate ALL of the air from the tyre, before filling it with nitrogen, which requires a special vacuum pump. Just deflating and filling with nitrogen still leaves some air in the tyre.
  9. you shouldn't notice any difference in steering feel, but I was lying about it helping you get the girl!..............
  10. It reduces parasitic losses, the water pump and power steering pump are underdriven by about 20%. The manufacturer claims 11hp for this mod, which I think is a bit optimistic, I reckon it is more likely to be 4-5hp.
  11. Okay, my final post on this project. Unfortunately, I have decided not to continue with this. I still think the concept was a good one, however the costs to complete were going to be huge, so I have sold the shell, engine and most of the other bits I had collected. The good news is, that I have a replacement sitting in my garage already! With a bit of sorting to get it performing as it should, I will be at the next BMW Race Series meeting in it to join in some of the fun!

  13. Andrew, can you move this thread to another part of the board, and keep this free for discussion on the race series. cheers Conrad
  14. A pair of UUC billet underdrive pulleys for an E36 or E46 M52 (pretty sure M54 as well) Larger diameter water pump and power steering pump pulleys, frees up more hp, impresses your mates and no doubt will help you get that girl too! $160 pair A set of standard springs out of an E36 M3 Evo, should fit most E36's I imagine, no pic because you all know what a set of springs looks like! $200 set ph. conrad 0274 901 865

    Motec M4 question

From memory that car had Bosch 803's, and although I don't know the flow rate, they are fitted standard to a lot of Porsches, including 944 Turbo, and will support 340hp in an Escort Cosworth, so firstly I would perform a fuel flow test to make sure there is an adequate supply. High 13's on a drag strip would suggest close to 300hp in a car of that weight on road tyres, so that doesn't sound far off the mark. I have some Bosch 403 injectors, which are Motorsport parts and are much bigger, there are also some very good Siemens ones available now, with very good spray patterns, high flow rates and are very reasonably piced.

    Motec M4 question

Andrew, that steep climb in the power curve before it flattens off, is just the effect the turbo has as it comes onto boost, tuning the car will not change that dramatically. The wobbly parts in the power graph look a bit odd, not sure what is causing that, maybe the wastegate actuator pulsing (ie duty cycle from the Motec to the solenoid not fast enough, causing it to open and shut continuosly) 11:1 AFR not THAT rich for a turbo either.
  17. Andrew, can you move this thread into another section please and keep this forum for the race series only. Cheers Conrad
  18. These weights qoted in here are for the engine "undressed" ie. no mainfolds, starter, alternator, loom etc etc. Total weight probably more like 160kgs dressed.

    E30 318is Turbo

    I have redeemed myself!.................
  20. I am just old enough to remember the days when the police could chase you, but if you made it home (or anyones elses home for that matter!) then they couldn't touch you on private property! Those were the days when things were a bit more "sporting!"............

    E30 318is Turbo

Big apology to all those who showed interest, especially Andrew! Owner has had change of heart, and has decided not to sell it now- I feel like such a dick, GRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. He can't have been that special if he missed something obvious like a tach! And a computer that doesn't have a tach output, the world famous Link? Anyway, you don't need one, there is a plug hanging in behind the tacho with three wires, green, brown and another colour I can't remember(blue or yellow?) Run a wire to the coil negative, and connect to one of these wires, I think it was the brown one. if you get it wrong, the car will just splutter and cut out. This should get the tach going.
  23. I am selling a Z3 2.8 5 speed on trademe, it has a reserve of only $10K due to the fact in cannot be registered in NZ, as it only has one airbag. It is a real minter, and would be good as a race/targa car, or could be re-exported somewhere if you want to try to make a buck out of it. See the ad for more details. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=73904048
